    Two chords. IV-V. Many different options for improvisation will work. Major pentatonic and major pentatonic on each respective chord. Chord tones over each respective chord. Parent key full diatonic scale. Slide in from the "blue note." Bring in another note to Imply another mode. Etc. You could play around with one or more of these improvisation options, mixing and matching, and you're noodling. But when you apply specific techniques, at different points in the jam, with purpose and intent -- teasing or "priming" the audience at the beginning, expanding with motifs, changing dynamics and tempo, recalling earlier motifs, successively building tension -- then it's not just improvisation, and it's not just noodling. It's composition. Stich has been teaching us all these various techniques. But seeing this video is exactly like that moment in The Karate Kid when the light bulb goes off and we realize why Daniel-son has been painting fences and houses, waxing on and waxing off.

    Ian, this is one of your best, if not the best Trey soloing video yet. I loved the breakdown into different sections for creating an overall structure or plan for the solo. So cool and understandable. I can imagine Trey himself commenting “That’s exactly what I do!”

    So I made a 5 Page Support Chart. This chart has Eb and F Chord Tones on the entire neck. The Eb and F Pentatonics with special notes highlighted as discussed in video. The Full Key Scale for Soloing, Special notes within, Arpeggios for the ending and some words of advice. You can get it here bit.ly/2IMPfxT for $2.49. It will be dowloaded immediately and emailed to you as well. Patreon Members of the Practice Sessions and Bonus Lessons Tier get the chart and I will be making about 5 practice vids as well. Rock on

    There is something to be said as well about the use of modes here as Page and Mike often utilize the colors of Mixolydian and Lydian respectively throughout. At It's inception it seems to be rooted as a Zappa influenced jam, ie Inca Roads. It's evolved since but if anyone is interested in exploring the roots of the inspiration for this jam that's a most likely contender.

    Terrific explanation on this technique and so easy to understand. I had a very similar approach with that same progression with the exception of viewing the first chord as a Cm7 resolving to an F7 as in the II minor 7 to a V7 which is basically resolving the 7th on the Cm chord to the 3rd of the F7 in the key of Bb. I have found it a little easier to view from this angle. Thanks so much for your presentation
    Tom

      @@StichMethodGuitar You really are a good friend to fellow guitar players and jam enthusiasts and I hope you realize how amazing your approach is and how it emanates love for music and humanity. You give a lot for free and then offer even more on your Patreon for a reasonable price. It’s a very attractive energy and I love the approach.
      I do have a question for you. I’m currently learning to become a Crypto trader and in the near future when I’m investing successfully I plan to join your Patreon to practice all of these concepts.
      But I think I’d eventually like it if I could get some one on one lessons. I’m a huge fan of Jerry & Trey and have been writing songs for 20 years. I was hoping (if you aren’t too impacted with students) that at some point in the not to distant future that I could become a private student. Is that hard to do with your current workload or do you think you might be able to squeeze me in?
      Things I’d like to work on are the songs I’ve written or am writing and sort of dissect different approaches for them as well as get your opinion on tones and effects that could enhance different specific songs and songs that I might be able to extend out into jams and how to create jams & get in and out of rhythms and progressions to melt into other tunes. Anyway, wether available or not, I appreciate you and all you do
      ✨🙏🏻✨

  • @tylerthompson1842
    @tylerthompson1842 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the chords are Eb to F then shouldn’t you be thinking Eb Lydian and F mixolydian because of the root notes?

    • @StichMethodGuitar
      @StichMethodGuitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they are the same exact scale.... you want to think chord tones and parent scale which is Bb Major.... which is Eb Lydian and F Mixo.... but just Bb scale and chord tones is all you need.

  • @richlight
    @richlight 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is switching chord tones something you can base a whole chord progression jam on? Am I wrong or is that the way it was done way back when? Self taught, dont allways understand what I'm being told

    • @StichMethodGuitar
      @StichMethodGuitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and No... If the jam is all chord tones, it will sound stale, so you need to mix in a scale to create motion in melody

    • @richlight
      @richlight 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StichMethodGuitar I meant switching scales on every chord change . Sorry I don't fully understand the lingo so not sure i was clesrx or that you were clear on what i meant. I understand some what and then I just start winging it on instinct so I may not allways be able to articulate what I mean verbally , or even know what I'm doing that has started to sound so good. My playing is .... well weird. Because i jam alone its more stand alone guitar, drum, harmonica pieces . I wont sing yet. Not comfortable enough . If I'm alone and record vocals it's not horrible. If someone else is around that I think might be able to hear me I pull back and cant even hit certain notes hahaha
