Unfortunately, the majority of people who fall victim to these scams are elderly or are, and I'm trying to be polite, uneducated and on the lower socio-economic rung. In other words, two groups that can ill afford to be scammed. We had an elderly friend get preyed upon by the IRS scam. They instilled such fear that she liquidated whatever assets she had for the $1800 ransom. And that was the reduced rate when she couldn't pony up over 10k. These scammers are the boils on the butt of humanity.
The idea is they "show" you it so that you don't think they are lying. There is one site they ALWAYS went to in older videos that talked about csrss.exe as a virus, rather than it's actual usage - the site eventually changed their layout to mention it's legit usage first, THEN the virus that copies it, adding in a mention of the scammers more prominently - they don't use that site anymore, at least, very rarely, if ever. Good old confidence tricks, act like you are teaching them, fill em with lies, then get em to pay.
No update video yet.. Haven't gotten any hard facts to share, although I've had a few conversations with the sheriff's office and sent them all the evidence I have.
next time when they get up to the paying part, tell them you steal the WiFi from the girls next door so you don't want to pay (If they say the network is the problem)

The Indian states governments and industrialists jointly build business park with hopefully good intentions but many fake call centers sign up leases in these business parks. Business parks provide stable electricity and high bandwidth for phone/Internet connectivity (which is rare outside of business parks).
I've watched millions of these videos. It looked like this one was going well for the scammer, then all of a sudden he hung up for no reason. WTF? Why did he disconnect??

I think it's just bullshit, since they don't really ever talk about the specific message you get after you tell them what it is, they just go on about their stopped services and foreign IP addresses bullshit no matter what it is.
Or it gives them a clue as to what site their potential victim was on when they received the pop ups. Was it a gaming site? Porn? Fake Netflix site? Etc...It might help them size up their mark. ....or it might just be BS.
What if you were to just press enter after tree has run though? Wouldn't all that crap they type get the "command not recognized" message? You should do that and then ask them why it's not recognized? Would love to hear their excuses.. =)
No need to ever buy a hardware or software firewall. Smoothwall is a viable alternative to Sonicwall. M0n0Wall was perhaps the best although the project ended a year and a half ago. One can still get the last version, but there's absolutely no support for it. All new effort is in smallwall or t1n1wall (for small footprints) or pfsense or OPNsense (for larger footprints). I've also used IPCop in a pinch.

These services are stopped because they are only needed to run as necessary. Take Adobe Flash Update, service only runs whens an update is available. Windows Defrag only actives when a scheduled time to defrag is sensed or a manual run is.
