- Developed to address the surge in freight transportation, the EH10 was the first new electric locomotive after the war.
It excelled in hauling container express trains, but with the advent of new performance EMUs, its role gradually shifted.
While it was expected to expand westward with the electrification of the Tokaido and Sanyo Main Lines, this did not materialize.
Cooperative operation with helper engines at the challenging Seno Hatchi section did not go smoothly, resulting in its regular operation ending at Okayama.
This was the fate of the eight-axle locomotives with resistance control.
