    This video is fantastic! 😍 Thanks for sharing all the process, it's always very interesting to see all the steps to the finale result in Barbie dress making. How clever to reuse the vintage fabric! Bravo Dean, hope you'll be able to offer us more "tutorials" like this one in the future! 👏🏻👏🏻

      Thank you Marco! ❤️ I also think it is interesting to see how peoples methods may differ. I am by no means an expert 😂 I am almost completely self-taught. I hope to show more videos. I won't film all of my projects, but maybe one or two, here and there. ❤️

    I used to have a Barbie fashion pattern. At one point I took a sewing class with the idea I would start sewing for these outfits! That was not to be. Sewing was not a strength of mine. Patience is also not and that might have been part of it. But I love what you do and your talent in this! What talent you have!

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I have very little patience. I am surprised I can get any sewing done 😂 I get so stressed by the whole thing. But quite often I find the end result rewarding. Thank you Rann! ❤️

    Mr Dean, can I say how professional this video was, your filming, editing and explanation was so informative. I really have no idea why you where so worried. I loved it. I think you should do more videos like this please. I’m going to ask my mother in-law Rhonda if she has any pattens for Barbie doll as she did mention it to me once and see if I can get them for you, if you like and do more. Or I’m going to look for some for you. Well done Dean so proud of you. Congratulation on 100 episodes. I’m really happy I found you and we have become friends. You really got me excited to do more now on my channel like this, thanks for the inspection, and can I say you have a lot of knowledge with sewing. 🥰🍾🥂🤗 hugs are coming your way ❤️

      Thank you! It was a lot of work to film and sew at the same time. I spent all of my time doing this for the past 4 days or so. I think I will do more videos like this, but obviously in amongst reviews and stuff like that. I have a few Barbie patterns but could always use more. My partners mother bought me a Barbie sewing book from the 80s which is very fun and gives you all the basics. I did a course in Fashion Design, but never went on to do pattern making and sewing. But I did do sewing in High School and have done a few small projects over the years. Oh please do! I would love to see more crafts on Quirky Crafts and Collectibles! I am glad we became friends too! ❤️

    This was so instructional! I loved the beginning bit with the fabric glue.... and I was always terrified of topstitching, so you are braver than I am! LOL The topstitching IS a wonderful designer touch and I am glad you included it (I especially like it on brown or tawny-shaded fabrics like in this outfit... don't ask me why! LOL And yes, it DOES look very 70's!) I also love how you used 'Barbie Sings!' as the background music! LOL yes, inset sleeves are a nightmare, even at human size, so I can imagine how they would be at 1/6th scale! Terrific idea to use the remnants of the gold sticker sheet to cover up that thread and to make the button on the blouse! How strange that the vest pattern was side-buttoned instead of at the back, but I do like the look of the gold 'buttons' there, as I saw side-buttoned tunics JUST like this in those old fashion reports of Givenchy and Balenciaga that you know I am obsessed with! :P Love seeing Meg in this outfit! I hope you do more of these types of videos, Deany... and can't wait for that next video you talked about! :D

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Spagbol! I wanted to make it detailed enough without boring everyone with hours of sewing straight lines 😂 I thought the fabric glue thing might come in handy for some people. That fabric is actually to be used for a later project, so I killed two birds there. I used Barbie sings plus some others. I wasn't sure if it was overkill but Ollie liked it. He felt it made the video seem more festive. I love those reports. Have you sent me the ones with the side-buttoned tunics? I actually need to find those 70s vogues I bought for some Barbie outfit inspo. I have no idea what I did with them. Haven't seen them since we moved.

    I made a couple of the outfits from the patterns from the early sixties, but never quite finished them because I had no idea what to do with the arm holes. Whenever I've made garments for 'humans', there was always a facing that lined the arm holes.

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try facing them with tulle, top stitching and then cutting the tulle away? Or you could line it with tulle or another lightweight fabric. I find these things work quite well as I also struggle with arm holes 😂

    I had no idea you sewed and so glad you shared this with us. I have seen these doll dress patterns on Ebay before and always wondered how the garments would turn out when executed. I personally don't sew but would like to try my hand at it. Would you recommend these patterns for a first time beginner or have any suggestions? Thanks again and hello from the States!

    • @DeanReen
      @DeanReen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you ❤️ I have been doing it for about a year and a half now. I have only shared my sewing on Flickr before. But I am a lot more confident now so I figured I would shake things up a bit here on TH-cam. I think you should give it a go! Even hand sewing? It takes longer but I find it less stressful to hand sew. I usually do it for hats and smaller items. This pattern is a little tricky with the curved seams. I think the best patterns for beginners would be a simple shift dress or something like that. I found the Francie pattern by McCalls to be very easy too, and most of them are designed for felt so no hemming! YAY! 😂
