Ryan, is nice to read all the nice comments and concerns regarding your back pain. I didn’t want to be left out, so i have to say something as well. I'm sure you already know this, but I'm going to mention it just in case... when you are laying down on your back, I hope you don't have your legs stretched out. But if you bend your knees when you are laying on your back and put something under your legs, it will take the pressure away. I’m literally having coffee and watching…it’s my normal Saturday morning…thanks for your videos!! Thanks for inviting me into the life inside “The Worm”..
Ryan, this is fantastic as always. Get yourself a battery powered chainsaw, my friend. I used to scoff at them but my wife bought me a 12 inch DeWalt for my birthday and I LOVE IT! If you need to make a hundred small cuts, it's the way to go. Very handy for small diameter firewood and the very small kerf may reduce a little waste in cutting dimensional lumber. Again, I love what you're doing, man. Much respect from below The Bridge.
Ryan, I've dealt with lower back pain for the past 20 years. When you feel the pain onset (we know that feeling) I've found that just walking for 30 minutes to an hour as soon as it onsets helps a lot. Maybe it won't work for everyone, but it helps me. My theory is this, you tweak nerves, the muscles contract and that's when the pain sets in. I believe that walking, just makes your muscles work like they normally should and tends to ease them back into normalcy. I've walked up and down my driveway for an hour after pulling some boards out of the back of my truck, walking helps. Worst case, get to a doctor and get a shot of Toradol. Toradol has taken my 8-10 days of pain and turned it into 2-3 days of pain before I'm back to "my normal". Love your videos! Thank you for sharing your life with us.
@@tonyhussey3610 when mine gets real bad I gotta give it an hour or so at the peak to unlock. Then yeah, easy movements always help to get things "back in line". Back problems are the worst. I cringed watching him walk down the steps of the man cave, stairs are my worst enemy when mine goes out.

I’ve had lower back pain for fifty years. I’ve done all the stretching exercises which do help. Back surgery in 2007. That only helped for a year. The last fifteen years have had a lot less problems since I have been doing planks. You know what planks are I assume. You make them from trees, like what you do. Now go make them with your body. Don’t expect immediate results. Like any exercise you must work your muscles into shape. Good luck. One minute reps.
my grandma gave me the best bad back advise... she said it was from decades of bending over while gardening and hunching/slouching while in the kitchen... she said she would lay on her back like you were talking about the party week and sneak a tennis ball under her back where the pain was and just let it give you a deep tissue massage😉 oh and stay hydrate❤️ your videos are a favorite of mine, I hope you all the best👍
Michygoss.....Yes I am subscribed to Ryan’s channel! Hello Ryan, Michelle could use your Help with Rafters she is trying to put up. Some good advice is what she needs on the birds mouth. I watch both of your channels. A couple video's ago I stated that you could make a Loft to sleep or to store things. I wish I had all that wood to make myself a storage shed in my back yard.
I had just got a shot in my spine for the second time. It Helps for awhile and the pain gets very bad. I think I know what you are going through. Take care and try not to lift things that are too heavy and give your back a rest. Take care of yourself.🤕😧👍
I did a few tears of ruff carpentry, and a fellow told me once, if you do something and you want it to be perfect, you do it on purpose...Looking good Ryan, it will service you well and it does look good!!
I usually watch your videos to enjoy your calm and live vicariously through you until I can get out in the woods, but because of the title of this video the whole time I watched I was afraid you were going to fall off the ladder or the roof!
Rest up dude. As a person with occasional back issues I understand what you're going through. Mine doesn't knock me on my ass like yours does for days but pain is pain. Looking forward to more Good times
I found the best thing for my back problems is walking, nice long walks and once in a while hanging from a tree branch to stretch it out. Eventually I got up to 5 or6 miles per day. With some days going 20.
It's always a pleasure to have the latest episode of Surviving Ringworm available on TH-cam! I'm hopeful that you find that an insulated cabin, in addition to being warm in the winter, also doesn't turn into a solar oven on those hot summer days. I have intermittent back trouble too however I won't give you any advice for treatment. I suspect there are different triggers and a variety of effective treatments. You seem to know what you need to do to help you heal. Thanks for the video Ryan! Best Wishes and Good Luck.
I love watching you build and walk around you got lots of talent and talk to yourself and us you’re pretty funny you have that dry sense of humor like Bob Newhart well I’ll put that off to your a yankee 😂 from a Southern Louisiana man I’ll keep watching you Love your videos ✌🏻👍
Sorry about your back (I was afraid you fell off the roof when I read the description to your video!). I do daily stretching exercises that help whenever I feel a twinge in my back. Have a fun time partying with Tito, and happy birthday!
So glad the tarpaper went down before the rain -- without unnecessary TH-cam hysterics! Can't honestly say I'm sorry about your back pain, because I can see you're probably going to find it a useful opportunity. Not that anyone, especially you, deserves any physical distress or disfunction. Let me add, what a fine example you are of "living experimentally." Not in the mad scientist sense, but in the simpler meaning of "one who tries." Too many of us are blinded by the attraction of imagining we should be "one who knows" . . .
Ohh man, I feel you Ryan. 10 years in EMS has left me with a few nuts and bolts loose too. Mine goes out about once a year. You'll bounce back I have no doubt. Thanks for bring us along, even when its not what we planned.
I saw you marking a straight edge of a board, remove the board and then skill saw it. I recommend moving the board over 1½" or whatever your skillsaw is and let the table ride against it. You'll get a perfectly straight line every time. Also your camera work is baller dude keep killin it
Rest, kick back and relax and allow yr back to recover👍then you can go back to doing all that good stuff on the cabin🌈 the wobly facia boards look awesome👏hoping fr u a speedy recovery🌄
Also.....you have a Thera-cane hanging on your wall. I have one just like it. It works great for reaching around your back to put pressure on the vertebrae to hopefully pop it back in place. 👍👍👍👍😎
It’s hard to see you in pain, but the first thing I thought when you limped out was, oh no he fell off the roof. So I’m glad nothing is broken or your rotting corpse is stinking up the forest. The breakfast feast was very fun to see. You might show up some others of your culinary menus. Looking forward to party week. Take care, Ryan.
Hope you are feeling better with your back, Ryan. Hard to see you in that condition. I am really enjoying the cabin build and the process of building decision making. It is interesting to see your thought process that you share with the viewers. My father suffered with his back going out occasionally and was hard to see him in a lot of pain. Does your mattress or whatever you are sleeping on have anything to do with the problem? Knowing how you think maybe you will suspend yourself upside down from the deer castle to stretch your back. Maybe you should wait until Tito is there so he can cut you down. Hope you have a good recovery.
Funny, my back went out last week also. I have a thing I use when that happens. I hang upside down on a device called a "Teeder Hangup". I do it for 15 minutes a day along with lying on my back on the floor and pulling my knees up to my chest. That usually has me back in action in a day or two. I feel your pain.
Hi Ryan how you doing hope all well you running out of time for the winter I know when my back goes that you feel helpless get well soon don't over do it be happy be safe
Ryan I will tell you how you did you back in !!! When you were holding them soffolk boards over the side is when you pulled them mussels, an it always takes a day to come back an get you... That straining with the boards... Do get a good mussel cream to help relaxation your back..
The cedar laying inside will also smell fantastic! Hopefully all the exterior work will be completed and you'll be doing all the inside work before the nasty weather shows up.
The end rafter is called a "flyrafter" and cutting the tabs off the 3 in 1's makes a perfect starter. You should put the tar strip down over the dripedge so it glues down the edge of the architectural shingle. Of course you won't see this till after the roof is done, lol. I'm part of that 1% that enjoys living out in the woods, or at least I did when I was much younger. I like your content, keep it coming
I hope your back is better, keep doing what makes you happy. I know far too many people that are miserable because they are living the life they think they are supposed to live.
I studied Woodworking in High School for Three Years (never completed a single one of the Nine Projects). Unfortunately My Father who was a excellent Carpenter, managed to convince Me that I was absolutely Useless when it came to Anything with My Hands. Consequently I don’t have the Confidence to undertake any kind of Home Handyman type project.
Probably been mentioned, but . . . fly rafters are easier to install if you install your framing blocks from the last rafter first. Then just put it up from the ladder, screwed into the framing block closest to center. Then finish nailing/screwing. Oh, and drip edge should overlap the corner if you're doing the eave edge and gable edge. Oh and no need to cut the tabs off for your starter course. Measure 5/8" over the drip edge, snap a line and install the whole 3 tab, back side down along the eave edge. Then just line up the first course of finish shingle right to the edge. Making sure to be 6" off the seam of the starter course.
Ryan, 20 plus years of low back pain and neck problems here. Walking was what my neuro surgeon recommended post op and over the counter Aleve (naproxen sodium) to help loosen up the muscles. The naproxen will cut your recovery time in half. Good luck, great videos, hope you get back to work soon.
I can empathise as a Spinal injury person, when the pain gets bad it's just a duvet day, hot bottle and feeling sore, you just need to see it through stay safe out there.
Always inspirational, yeah I’m in that 1% that you mentioned Ryan, far from purgatory, what you’re doing always looks like so much fun! And your insights are invaluable. Really hope your recovery has progressed and that you’re feeling in top shape for Party Week!
Ryan I love your channel and have watched all of the uploads. You do a tremendous amount of work and I am always worried about your safety. I have only had a few days of extended back pain and I know mine was mild but it's no joke. I hope you will recover soon and as always I will keep praying for you and the gang out there.
Your breakfast you were doing so well then ruined it with the lemon curd and hot sauce🤣, those mushrooms yummy and yes did remind me of the cheese. Build is looking very cool, I liked the edging, your incredibly strong to hold the wood at the angel until the clamps took over I was like wow xxx ps sorry to hear about your back, I have issues with mine from we’re I fractured it in 2 places years ago and have a prolapsing disc which is getting worse but soldier on but did treat myself to a very good mattress too, take care xxx
I follow a channel of a guy that lives major off grid in Alaska as in helicopter into the cabin. He has a good supply of food in steel barrels that is stored outside of the cabin. He is two or three days of bush travel and river swimming to get to the nearest road (and almost impossible most of the year). He has staples like beans and rice but you could use say a week of can goods and package foods plus ten gallons of distilled or regualr bottled water. Add an low cost butane stove and six cannisters of fuel and you are set for a week. Just a thought. Bob in Nevada
I feel ya in the back department. I got 3) things to try. 1)pull my leg up to my chest and hold for 30 seconds and and 2)also apply ice and then go for a 3)walk. It is looking pretty cool. Take rest and see you next week.
Ouch! Back pain is nasty. Chiropractic adjustments always helped for me. Hard to even move with all the pain. Sounds like you're improving tho. Cabin is coming along. Party time sounds good. Take care.
I have the same back problem you have and maybe worse but after taking Turmeric/Curcumin for two weeks my problem went away. After 3 years still no pain. No pain pills anymore and we all know it is not good for the liver. Now I just take one a day. If I do tweek my back the recovery time is a day and it is nothing like before, like a knife in your back. It works and it saved me from a early retirement. I am surprised no one has told you already. Qunol Is the brand I use. Good luck.
I would like to see you work from a scaffold rather than ladders so much. Maybe give it some thought and use boards and ladders to create some or find some used at one of repurpose stores that you frequent. It seems a bit safer and maybe less fatiguing. Just a thought. Love having my Saturday morning coffee enjoying The Worm.
For my periodic lower back problem I’ve learned that using an Ab Sling and hanging from my armpits via a chin-up bar is the only self-remedy that works. The mild traction it produces does it. Try it.
Hope your back feels better soon. I have been down that road several times and it isn't a lot of fun. Give yourself a rest before you tackle more on the cabin. We can wait for a few more weeks for the best channel on TH-cam to get healthy. Take Care - Be Safe - Get Well. Regards, Randy in Arizona
Maybe a good Chiropractor would help your back??? Your cabin is looking pretty good there. It will be nice when you can feel good to put that roofing on. Sending you healing there and God's blessings.
Godspeed Ryan! I threw my back out a week ago, doing a roof 😐 Wasn't even my roof. Here in Canada we have that all natural green leaf pain relief medication. Works wonders and doesn't damage my liver, savor the downtime!
You should build yourself an adjustable inclined plane with a foot hold to use at the end of the day to put your back into a bit of traction to stretch the discs back out.

Thank you for sharing your life with us.
thats all he does is walk..lol
Totally agree... Movement is essential.. backs hate rest and beds..
@@tburda823 yes I agree those stairs looked a big jump down.
I have a new one now.. trapped nerve in my shoulder.. can't sleep at all and a few fingers numb...
I do loads of building projects and as I get older they seem to want payment via my body...very frustrating as I am a grafter and love to get things made and done...
I'm building a water storage tank..like a swimming pool..huge..for rainwater...so I am paying for this via my shoulder hahaha 🤣🤣
Wish I was mechanical 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't know - you inspire folks with your creative building works and then make them hungry by showing us all how to cook breakfast
Love it 😊
Michygoss.....Yes I am subscribed to Ryan’s channel!
Hilarious securing the fascia with clamps - I had to do the exact same thing six weeks ago. My arms are still sore 😄
The roof looks great! I hope your back gets better soon !!!! You are a genius.
this has been a hell of a video. im gonna need to settle accounts. Ive got 10 hours i need to bill for. the rest, i can write off.
Congrats on the Tar Paper Roof! A therapist can give you simple back exercises to prevent recuring back trouble! You could use a blessing. Ron PTL USA
Good sense of Humor!!!!
Some pretty fancy clampn' skills bro. Looks great !!
That made me drool for second breakfast !!! Yum...
Purchasing and using an inversion table might be a lifesaver for you to have around out there. Mine works amazing for me and my old beat up back.
I wait all week for your videos. You are so cool. Take it easy, take care keep being cool.
Love the work from you ringworm, keep up the great work man.
Cans of club soda work as targets.
Hi Ryan how you doing hope all well you running out of time for the winter I know when my back goes that you feel helpless get well soon don't over do it be happy be safe
Looking So Nice. Your going to be Living in style this Winter.
Easy does it there Ryan. See you next week.
Man, I had such backpain a couple of month ago for the first time. Oh wow, that's a type of pain you can't ignore.
Boom, and you're down.
Looks awesome Ryan. 😁😁😁👏🏻
Great video Ryan 🙂. Next project a Japanese wood fired hot tub to get those back muscles back in line.
5:00 a.m. my time and the breakfast looks delicious I'm going to go make some. Cabin coming along fine it looks great
I enjoy your building so you take care of yourself
Ryan, 20 plus years of low back pain and neck problems here. Walking was what my neuro surgeon recommended post op and over the counter Aleve (naproxen sodium) to help loosen up the muscles. The naproxen will cut your recovery time in half. Good luck, great videos, hope you get back to work soon.
I can empathise as a Spinal injury person, when the pain gets bad it's just a duvet day, hot bottle and feeling sore, you just need to see it through stay safe out there.
Always look forward to another upload. ❤
Always inspirational, yeah I’m in that 1% that you mentioned Ryan, far from purgatory, what you’re doing always looks like so much fun! And your insights are invaluable. Really hope your recovery has progressed and that you’re feeling in top shape for Party Week!
Awesome job. I really enjoy your commentary. Have a blessed birthday coming up. Keep making videos.
Feel better soon. Back pain sucks.
Good luck.
Back pain is the worst, glad your doing better, you cabin is going to be fabulous
Wow....my Favorite chain sawer
I would like to see you work from a scaffold rather than ladders so much. Maybe give it some thought and use boards and ladders to create some or find some used at one of repurpose stores that you frequent. It seems a bit safer and maybe less fatiguing. Just a thought. Love having my Saturday morning coffee enjoying The Worm.
For my periodic lower back problem I’ve learned that using an Ab Sling and hanging from my armpits via a chin-up bar is the only self-remedy that works. The mild traction it produces does it. Try it.
as a kid we had Saturday morning cartoons / as adults we now have TH-cam (Ring Worm is pretty funny)
Good morning all!
Maybe a good Chiropractor would help your back??? Your cabin is looking pretty good there. It will be nice when you can feel good to put that roofing on. Sending you healing there and God's blessings.
Dude those were some amazing moves with those clamping those heavy boards edges way you did..my guess is that's what happened to ur back
Great job on the ridge cap solution!
