All the love and respect to Todd Rundgren. To write such a powerful song about love and life in his late 20’s is simply amazing. The song went on to be a big hit for another group, but Todd’s version none the less is priceless.
Younger Todd and Utopia were always great in concert. I've seen footage of a number of their performances and they sound very close to the record versions. Close to pitch perfect, These guys were so talented and professional.
Todd strikes an unlikely but intriguing rock star figure, but it's very distinctively TODD. Saw him live with Utopia on a warm starry night at Andrews Ampitheater in Hawaii way back and the show was so feel-good and incredibly musical. He had a ballerina dance on his piano for one tune which was a very beautiful visual. The pot smoke was thick! Aloha Todd!
Young bands can't pull off these 3 part harmonic back ground vocals live. They have to lip sync to it. Talentless bastards. Utopia and many other acts didn't need backing tracks, they actually sang the parts live. I miss the days of musical talent.
hey, it beats the hell out of what they CALL hairstyles today. Jesus, I'd rather see every male in the US with hair like that. For that matter, every female as well. Today's styles are pathetic.
Ah My Love, it's so nice to hear from You, I'm OK I guess, But if Todd and I talked politics, it would end up in a fistfight,,,heh, Keep Me in Your Heart ♥♥♥ Zuya' Wichasa aka danu
Wow. Trying to imagine how fantastic a Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds cover of this would be with their harmonies. That said, I wonder why Utopia's original version didn't make the charts; the interplay between him and Kasim Sultan was great.
@ Michael Z - Yes, thank you - you are correct. Sorry had a brain funk when I typed that! Either way, it annoyed me that Todd's version never really got air play.
@ Mike Stidham. I've thought about your question for a couple days. I wonder if it had something to do with the about face change of style from Something/Anything to Utopia. Todd lost a lot a fans with that style change. Funny, Love is the Answer sounds like it belonged more on the S/A album. Todd was ahead of his time and I often wonder if he had more guidance in his choices if he would have been more gotten more air play. Back then it was all about how much money you made for the record company. He's clearly more talented than Daryl Hall but Hall was in it for the money where Todd was committed to what was in his head. It's sad.
@RhemaRocks You make a good point there. After "Something/Anything?" he became a lot more mystical and influenced by Buddhism, departing from his "progressive pop" sound. Note: Rundgren also abandoned his straight edge lifestyle during the recording of "Something/Anything?", and got seriously into heavy drug use. There were still hints of his old style on "A Wizard/A True Star", but then he went full on mystic, ala Gary Wright. "Love Is The Answer" seems almost to be a bridge between the two styles. Todd was indeed an artist who really couldn't be pigeonholed easily.
the real hit makers for this song was England Dan and John Ford Coley, 12 million views on TH-cam alone. Great song Todd, I'm sure you got some good royalty checks from it.
Real music written by a real songwriter, played by a real band. Thanks Todd! Thanks Roger! Thanks Kasim! Thanks Willie!
Todd belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

This is so beautiful. Remember when we could still shake hands? This almost made me cry.
Yes, one of the first things I noticed. It was a different world.
Roger Powell so underrated so talented in so many ways. He was a true star
This song is a classic, vastly under rated.
I so agree with you, mark!
Fantastic and deeply meaningful song.
Love how Rundgren could go from some of the silkiest pop songs to the hardest rock to concept progressive rock
A big shout out to the drummer and bassist for the awesome back up voices. Song wouldn't be as good without them.
Not to mention Roger Powell on keyboards adding extra backing vocals with Kasim Sulton on bass, and Willie Wilcox on drums!
Had to pull this up again and watch it!! It’s been at least a month since I’ve watched it! July 2024
Incredible in every way, and don't you love the band wearing military camo outfits and singing about LOVE! Genius!!!!!
His voice was "spot on", unreal
Thank You So Much, UNREAL is almost an understatement, again, Thx
Yup. So good. The backing vocals were also excellent. You could tell what an emotional connection he made with the audience.
Todd Rundgren: Man of the People, Musician Extraordinaire. Thank you, Todd, and I nominate you for Coolest Dude on Planet Earth!
What a voice!Todd has that audience in the palm of his hand.
Younger Todd and Utopia were always great in concert. I've seen footage of a number of their performances and they sound very close to the record versions. Close to pitch perfect, These guys were so talented and professional.

What a voice Rundgren has!
Thanks.
Epic..........
I am not depressed, I just don,t have my girl , I just don't know where to go...she doesn't know it yet, I am a man of the world...
OMG look at his short hair!!! Sexy! I love that he shakes hands at the beginning - that's so cool.
It is a crime that he is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame like Iron Maiden the rock and roll hall of shame!!!!
He actually was inducted in 2022. Far too late in my opinion. Should have been among some of the first inductees.
The sound of the 70s if he is not put in the hall of fame shutter down
💗
😊💗Memories...Dan Seals & John Ford Coley!!💝
You do know that Todd wrote the song right? I do enjoy their version as well.
Then and Now
cant find this stuff anywhere!!!
Sure You did, steal it from me, take the whole channel, it's my pleasure

I am a huge Todd fan and love this, but, it sounds to me like it was studio "sweetened" after the fact. I can't find any info. Anyone know?
@@billb693 I don't know, but Utopia did it live without sweetening on their tour 2 years ago.
‘Talentless bastards’....That nails it.
@@billb693 Eventide Harmoniser may have been used to give the b-vox a "Sheen"?
AMEN!!!
Emotional,
Why hasn’t everyone in the world heard this
They do but without Todd giving them this song, they would be nothing!!
TODD version's is the BEST!!
FAB Todd
For Shireen Singh ❤Shaheen 2024
❤I love you Shireen Singh 2024 Shaheen
It's a travesty that Todd isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
That haircut though.
Obviously you do if you commented.

Always annoyed me that Hamilton Joe Frank and Reynolds had a bigger hit than the WRITER of the song. Todd just never got the air play.
Em Vf it was England Dan and John Ford Coley who recorded Todds song

You ain’t telling me he don’t look back on the clothes he wore..and made the band wear matching outfits and say what the hell was I thinking 😂😂😂😂
Sings like a bird.
