It was fascinating to learn about the "hole" metaphor! As a beginner therapist, I find it difficult to squeeze the choice point, creative hopelessness and recognize struggle as a problem in one session. It usually takes me two or three 50-minute sessions to cover all these. PS: waiting for the future content!)
Squeezing everything in doesn't always make sense for every client. The digging hole metaphor works well for those who are coming into therapy and they've tried a lot. Is good to get the pressure off of the therapist to try to fix them and for the client to try another approach than through their efforts. I use the what have you tried with nearly every client as it helps with my functional analysis and assessment. Use what works and this video as a tough outline of how to use ACT. More content is coming.
Hi Quincy! Glad you found this channel and series helpful. There's no simple answer to your question as autism presents challenges for people to pick up social norms and expectations, in addition to filtering out specific environmental reactions. OPD is also a challenge for anyone in authority of the child. Calm and confident parenting with focus on positive environments that setup the child for success is recommended. ACT helps the parent keep cool and defuse which means less escalation. Hope that gives you a better idea of where to start. Good to see your name in the comments.
@@shaunhardie It's something we've been looking for. Help with raising an Autistic teenager. Also, what about a child with Oppositional Defiant Disorder?
Thank you for putting this together and to share it with us! It’s really educational! 😊
You are so welcome!

@@shaunhardie thanks, man! Looking forward to new vids from you.
Do you have any suggestions for handling autistic children or children with oppositional defiant disorders?
