I believe the video is a metaphor for life. Coming out of nowhere, having some ideals to pursue, finding someone then waking up alone, findind out that your ideals were naive and there were dozens of ideals to choose from, just as good. Struggling to find a destination again. Then ending up on a shore all alone (hello, kojima), seeing someone else just like you coming to this weird but beautiful place. Endless cycle.
For non-Norwegian speakers interested in a translation of the lyrics (from their website): "An explosion of thousand kilos steel Direction unknown land Like a fist addressed/ directed to God The atmosphere is on fire To the nomad there were no questions If life disappeared Draped only in a layer of nylon skin He travel to the edge of everything Light glimmers with it's blinding absence (dying sun) A desperate odessey between razor-sharp reefs (in a pilot seat) Night travel toward unknown world Farewell to everything that you hold dear All alone in a pitch-black ocean Ice bath in moonlight Cacophony of inner voices Tearing in his mind The hunger warns of a future grave Raw and cool wind In an unearthly painting that is tearing He calmly walks in Light glimmers with it's blinding absence (dying sun) A desperate odessey between razor-sharp reefs (in a pilot seat) Night travel toward unknown world Farewell to everything that you hold dear
Hi guys, I'm an italian pianist! Would u help me to grow on TH-cam? Subscrive on my channel , I rec all kind of music with piano . It's just a click for u, but it's really important for me :)
I much prefer the production work of Kurt Ballou on the previous albums. I think self producing this album allowed them to get away with things that a good producer would change, such as lesser production and over-long songs with no progression.
Am I right in assuming the new music videos are inspired by Stanley Kubrick's films? This one made me think of Space Oddesey, whilst 1985 had references to Clockwork Orange. Can we expect a Shining inspired music video next maybe?
It's the kind of walk you made Donnie do to avoid being crushed by the jet engine in the tangent universe. Then he woke up on the golf course the next day.
Jeffrey Lebowski It's a tricky dialect, then top it off with raspy vocals and you got something hard to pick up on verbally. Even though I too belong in the western Norwegian dialect group (though far more north than Erlend), I can usually only make out a few words per line in their songs.
Jeffrey Lebowski To me, the simplest part of this song's lyrics to make out (and almost the only thing) was the backup vocals and Erlend's line before the main riff: "Nattesferd - mot ukjent verd. Farvel til alt som du har kjært!" Translates to: "Night travel - towards unknown world. Farewell to everything you cherish/ hold dear!"
I can't listen to the old albums anymore, they sound too scooped and "metal." This sounds way more organic and balanced. I'm loving the new album, I think it's the best thing Kvelertak ever did.
+TheTorri98 Not balanced, I'd rather say it sounds more raw and thrashy-sounding now. Meanwhile the old albums sound super well produced. Quite frankly I'm impressed by how good they sounded considering how many they are in the band and considering how brutal their sound is. It might be so simple as them having trigged drums before and decided to go for "real" drums on this album...
Yes the productions of the old albums are amazing. Clean, clear, balanced and hard hitting. However they obviously wanted to do something a little bit different this time around and I think they did an amazing job. Torri98 is right. This album sounds way more organic and that's a good thing. It adds some character and soul. The way they shaked things up also indicated that Kvelertak still is a creatively active force. They don't want to do the same trick over and over again. It's a great album. Probably the best they ever made.
+Dagoth Kek Well I suppose our oppinions differ regarding this. I get your point but I simply don't agree :/ I really liked how they somehow managed to sound so brutal and raw while still having that well produced, clean sound. I thought it was a refreshing sound in todays metal scene.
I see where you're coming from, but personally, I don't see Kvelertak as a metal band. To me, they're more like a rock n' roll band "having fun with different genres." And that shows so well in this new album, they show mastery over so many styles and flavors.
Don't like it. They changed the song to match the video, they should change the video to match the song; which is one of the best fucking songs I've heard in years. \m/
@PepoFock what do you know about kvelertak? I have lived in Oslo for 8 years, seen Kvelertak about 15 times, seen how they have changed and how the audience have changed. And in 2014 me and my old band recorded a EP with the guitarrist Bjarte engineering and mixing the record. When asked by us he told us that they had recognised the hipster audience groath and that they sertainly have them in mind when they write new material. So sorry if I have an oppinion about your best buddies and favorite rock band with black metal inspired vocals. Dumbass haha
This band is killer!

"An explosion of thousand kilos steel
Direction unknown land
Like a fist addressed/ directed to God
The atmosphere is on fire
To the nomad there were no questions
If life disappeared
Draped only in a layer of nylon skin
He travel to the edge of everything
Light glimmers with it's blinding absence (dying sun)

Night travel toward unknown world
Farewell to everything that you hold dear
All alone in a pitch-black ocean
Ice bath in moonlight
Cacophony of inner voices
Tearing in his mind
The hunger warns of a future grave
Raw and cool wind
In an unearthly painting that is tearing
He calmly walks in
Light glimmers with it's blinding absence (dying sun)
A desperate odessey between razor-sharp reefs (in a pilot seat)
Night travel toward unknown world
Farewell to everything that you hold dear
thank you! i was wondering what the title meant, and i couldn't find a translation ^^ so .. nattesferd = night travel ?

Same. I thought the album was great. Sure the band is looking to branch their sound off but it still sounds fucking awesome.

love it! :)
That riff is so fucking juicy
nice
kvelertak are gods
wow kvelertak for RR !
What does "nattesferd" means?
nightprowling,_kinda
Night walk, badly translated
Night travel
It's the kind of walk you made Donnie do to avoid being crushed by the jet engine in the tangent universe. Then he woke up on the golf course the next day.
"Natt" is "night" and "ferd" is "journey". "Nattesferd" is best translated as "Night Journey".
reminds me of the band "fucked up"
hail to the DORITO
Fucking awesome
do kvelertak use nynorsk for they lyrics?
Thank you very much. You know i am very interested on norway :)
Really interesting. What I got from it, is that almost no one understands what Erlend (the singer) says ?
Jeffrey Lebowski It's a tricky dialect, then top it off with raspy vocals and you got something hard to pick up on verbally. Even though I too belong in the western Norwegian dialect group (though far more north than Erlend), I can usually only make out a few words per line in their songs.

seems like the guy is caught in a timeloop

dierks67 Ohhhhhhh...
Dude it's Gaius Baltar :D
Sounds like oldschool hardcore.
this is for when you like Foo Fighters but wanted them to sing about satan.
kaoko111 kvelertak has nothing to do with satan
Mustafa Gamlı ever heard about the song sultans of satan?
PepoFock Just because they made a song with "satan" in the title doesn't mean it's a satanist band, silly
@Mustafa Gamli @Bendkabruh i dont think the guy was was serious about that, rather meant the style of singing
Go listen to their demo album "Westcoast Holocost"
...with pointe
Docm77 bought me here
Not listened to the whole ablum but if all the song follow that "style" i can say that for ME kvelertak died after their first album.
Anderson Barbara Young Paul Martinez Christopher
Wtf happened to the amazing sound you guys had on the previous album? :/ this sounds like a demo compared to them...
I can't listen to the old albums anymore, they sound too scooped and "metal." This sounds way more organic and balanced. I'm loving the new album, I think it's the best thing Kvelertak ever did.

sounds like Marilyn Manson mixed with hole. i like it
Since when were the Beach Boys black metal?
Don't like it. They changed the song to match the video, they should change the video to match the song; which is one of the best fucking songs I've heard in years. \m/
