Ethan called for help before getting in over his head, and continued to do what he could to expedite the recovery. He quickly helped Ron get the truck on the road so everyone could be on their way. That's how it's done. I can't believe the driver nor the company knew how much was in the trailer. Someone else mentioned the driver shouldn't have had the tandems all the way back.

Years ago on a very snowy day in Indiana, I saw where a truck had left the road, plowed through a fence and came to rest with the entire rig on top of a large pile of logs. I wish I could have watched the tow guys get it off of there...have nothing but respect for the work they do.

As a trucker that has spent over 40 years in the saddle I hate to admit that I'm embarrassed for my former friends, drivers, and teammates as well as myself by what a large segment of this industry has become. The lack of professionalism and skills demonstrated by an ever growing number of steering wheel holders gives the entire industry a black eye. My hat's off to Ron and his outstanding crew though, truly skilled and professional on all fronts. Well done gentlemen!
In addition to your accurate comments I would add it puts all the motoring public in harms way in a serious manner. These unqualified "drivers" are a serious threat to the safe professionals as well as the rest of the folks out there. I woud add most of the 4 wheeler drivers are as unskilled and dangerous as well. Until law enforcement and perhaps the insurance industry get serious about training and accountability this is what we get. I have driven over a million miles in 5 decades on two wheels, 4 wheels and 10 wheels, and it is russian roulette out there now. I still ride the motorcycles, but I assume EVERY vehicle is out to kill me now and ride accordingly. Like so much else in our country these days, incompetence, corruption, and greed has permeated our environment resulting in dangerous outcomes.
That's what happens when the industry decides to stop paying well and treating their drivers well. If you don't do those two things all you're gonna get are people who aren't skilled
Always ask for the shipping papers, so you know exactly what's on board. If MT have driver open doors. Just adding my 2cents worth. But kudos to you all for another great tow.

I had to get towed, told the wrecker company I was loaded 80k. The wrecker driver showed up in medium duty. The first thing I asked him if his truck would towed 80k. He was never informed I was loaded. I don’t understand why people don’t give the right load weights. One miss calculation could result in a big mess.
at least you actually informed the Driver of the wrecker unlike this driver who kinda just sat in his truck not doing anything or making sure that the Ethan had the correct info
Did your company call the towing company or did you? For if it was the company their thought process was a cheaper tow bill. Which I will guess didn’t work out for them. 😅 If you did then I would call that a misunderstanding at the towing company.
I had one time i was fished out of the ditch, wrecker asked how heavy i was. Now like Midwest, they always send a truck that can haul it regardless. I told them, with as much as it was shoving me in here, at least 70k. We usually ran fairly light, and this just felt heavy. Scaled at the terminal, was just over 80k. I had one of the larger and heavier trucks.
@@Embermist69 im an owner operator, the owner of the tow company to his driver to drive slow. His truck was automatic, I thought his tranny was going to blow up it kept down shifting and up shifting.
i think some of it has to do with the company trying to cheap out by not informing the tow truck then figuring well they already there so that will be the cost not realizing it will cost more in the end as now the have to roll additional equipment

the language barrier is becoming a bigger and bigger issue daily, especially with drivers. It's very unsafe if you can not communicate with the drivers when you are trying to load or unload the trucks
I love how you can tell from Rons voice when he's talking to camera, that he is absolutely fuming with fury but is nothing but courteous and practical when he speaks to someone on site.

Well 2 part problem here a. The driver didn't look at his paperwork and b. The company dispatcher didn't have the proper info. At least it was just a slide off incident nothing major between the 2 of you you got the job done with no serious problems. Team work, Ethan realized when the truck wasn't doing what he wanted it to do he needed help he called for it. First of all. Good job Ethan, as always. And Ron is always top notch. Second. Miscommunications seem to be the norm now. It would be nice if we could get accurate weight information. It makes the job a lot easier. But, that's where we adapt and overcome in the towing industry. Be it a sprinter van, or semi truck/trailer. I agree about the drives, but not necessarily the steers. I played around with tandems on a heavy load one day. I was fine on the drives and tandems and slightly overweight on the steers and didn't want to slide the 5th wheel. Moving the tandems back actually was gradually LIGHTENING the load on the steers because I guess putting more weight on the drives levered weight off the steers. But his tandems being that far back was the first thing I noticed--depending what state you're in, that'll get you pulled over. I've also never had a case where weight balance would require them to be that far back.

For a driver who does not know the weight of the trailer at ALL times is unfathomable. Then, tells Ethan it has 15,000 lbs when its has 3 times (45,000) that weight is unfathomable. I hope your billing them good for the services provided. What about the farmer's crop, is the company of the driver paying for the farmer's losses too? All in all like you said, "Nobody got hurt" but not getting the right information could have changed the results.
Yes, Ron and his workers could say, "Exhibit A" or "Take that, everyone who criticizes us for always going by the book!" in this case --- they approach every job as if there might be issues, and take precautionary steps to prevent avoidable problems. To paraphrase the "Good to be prepared in every case" saying, "Better to do it and not need to, than need to and not do it." :P :D

@@theswaff699 that's what i figured is the truck probably detected tha panic brake the minute the guy went off the road and automatically activated the hazards or AEB falsely detected something and slammed on the brakes in the wet weather causing this whole issue of the driver sliding off the road because typically when the AEB activates it will also activate the Hazards automatically

2:35 - the seal on the right door is a very good indication that the trailer is loaded. I pull a dry van and pretty close to 100% chance you have a load when you have a seal.
Yeah and down where he's at it be a proctor and Gamble load they've never loaded a 15000 pound load in they life probably 46000 I pull a reefer now but dang I used to pull dry loads
Might depend on the company. At Walmart the drivers have to put a seal on when taking empties, whether or not its a Walmart driver or when they contract out Schneider drivers. Usually with reefer stuff it needs a lock too regardless if its loaded or not.
@@coltsjasonP&G loves to max load every trailer they see. I’ve talked to security at a number of difference locations and they all say that drivers have to have them rework overloads all the time.
Nice work, Ethan. You are very professional and mastering the job well. It may be wise to always look at the paperwork in the future rather than relying on the driver's word. Nice work guys! That steering wheel holder didn't have a clue about anything. Should have asked to see the bills of laden, had a steering wheel holder that had red hot and smoking trailer brakes say that he "was told" his load was only a couple pallets of 'plastic', gut says ask for papers - he had a 53ft trailer of batteries - without a placard anywhere on truck or trailer. Ethan was correct in everything he was doing to get the truck out, just had all the wrong information about the load. Empty would have slid easily on the pavement as he was trying to get it to do. With correct information (loaded truck), then the rotator would definitely been sent right away also. I'm just guessing. Arm chair quarterback. :) Good video, and nice work you guys!
If you notice when Ethan is putting his chain on the trailer, it has shipping seals on the doors, so they would have been in trouble with the company and DOT, had they broken the seals to open the doors.

Holy hell, I thought i was listening to Ron! Then Dad (Ron) comes to save the day! I'm from Canada, and if I ditched my truck in Ontario, I'd call Ron Pratt.
A very good exmple of pull it out the way it went in if you can. Eathen tried to shorten the pull with a steeper pull angle. It unfortunately created a fuel tank issue with the Tractor. The lower longer pull angle would have kept tanks clear of contact. Hind sight is always easier to diagnose. An on the job learning experience. Future pulls will benefit from this one. Keep safe and hopefully next time load information will be more accurate. Out safely and down the road , that is what a good extraction is supposed to do. Good job.

There is no way this guy went to Trucking School or had a CDI license legally
Put manual transmissions back in the trucks and I think it would weed out the steering wheel holders !

We have a truck driving school near here, only takes 16 weeks to get a CDL, this is what they turn loose on the public.

All in all like you said, "Nobody got hurt" but not getting the right information could have changed the results.
The farmer will have insurance they can claim against. That said it might not be enough crop damaged for it to be worth claiming.
Yes, Ron and his workers could say, "Exhibit A" or "Take that, everyone who criticizes us for always going by the book!" in this case --- they approach every job as if there might be issues, and take precautionary steps to prevent avoidable problems. To paraphrase the "Good to be prepared in every case" saying, "Better to do it and not need to, than need to and not do it." :P :D

Saw one car fly past, I get it's off the road but maybe slow down even if its for a look! There could be an oil slick on the road.

@@theswaff699 that's what i figured is the truck probably detected tha panic brake the minute the guy went off the road and automatically activated the hazards or AEB falsely detected something and slammed on the brakes in the wet weather causing this whole issue of the driver sliding off the road because typically when the AEB activates it will also activate the Hazards automatically
Those farmers working their tractors may not see him without his four ways 😂

2:35 - the seal on the right door is a very good indication that the trailer is loaded. I pull a dry van and pretty close to 100% chance you have a load when you have a seal.
Yeah and down where he's at it be a proctor and Gamble load they've never loaded a 15000 pound load in they life probably 46000 I pull a reefer now but dang I used to pull dry loads
Exactly. Shipper seal when loaded, my padlock when empty.
Meanwhile the company i work for seals empty trailers, partly security partly as we had drivers moving unauthorised loads on the side
Might depend on the company. At Walmart the drivers have to put a seal on when taking empties, whether or not its a Walmart driver or when they contract out Schneider drivers. Usually with reefer stuff it needs a lock too regardless if its loaded or not.
@@coltsjasonP&G loves to max load every trailer they see. I’ve talked to security at a number of difference locations and they all say that drivers have to have them rework overloads all the time.
Nice work, Ethan. You are very professional and mastering the job well. It may be wise to always look at the paperwork in the future rather than relying on the driver's word. That steering wheel holder didn't have a clue about anything.
Should have asked to see the bills of laden, had a steering wheel holder that had red hot and smoking trailer brakes say that he "was told" his load was only a couple pallets of 'plastic', gut says ask for papers - he had a 53ft trailer of batteries - without a placard anywhere on truck or trailer.

Ethan was correct in everything he was doing to get the truck out, just had all the wrong information about the load. Empty would have slid easily on the pavement as he was trying to get it to do.
With correct information (loaded truck), then the rotator would definitely been sent right away also. I'm just guessing. Arm chair quarterback. :) Good video, and nice work you guys!

If you notice when Ethan is putting his chain on the trailer, it has shipping seals on the doors, so they would have been in trouble with the company and DOT, had they broken the seals to open the doors.
14:06 Hats off to that Fed-Ex driver for slowing way down with hazards on.
I see a lot of Fed-Ex drivers drive slow with hazards on while making deliveries, nothing unusual there.

A very good exmple of pull it out the way it went in if you can. Eathen tried to shorten the pull with a steeper pull angle. It unfortunately created a fuel tank issue with the Tractor. The lower longer pull angle would have kept tanks clear of contact. Hind sight is always easier to diagnose. An on the job learning experience. Future pulls will benefit from this one. Keep safe and hopefully next time load information will be more accurate. Out safely and down the road , that is what a good extraction is supposed to do. Good job.
That's a tough one. So I'm sure the farmer will be given the information for reimbursement of his beans.
