Hi everyone, Im honduran and have lived my whole life here. Its a pleasure for us to have visitors. We welcome all of you guys, and Im extremely grateful with Indigo traveller for having such open heart with us and all the countries he goes. Theres a lot going on here, just as in every country, but theres a lot of good. Only the bad things you will notice in mainstream media and news, because thats what sells. But theres a lot of good going on here, I will recommend everyone to learn from Indigo that in order for you to be critical on anything you must first know and experience whats going on. thnks to everyone supporting this youtuber and my country. I also live in Honduras the area where I live the community is nice. And holidays are celebrated within everyone, food is shared by neighbors and family.
Many years ago I had awesome experiences in Tegucigalpa. First, by arriving by bus from San pedro, my wallet and passport dropped on the ground i wasn t noticing it, one guy run after me to give everything me back after picking them from the ground. I was speechless. Than, i had Citicorp Travellers Cheques and since it was Friday afternoon i couldn t chanage them until next Monday. In my hotel, since rules were to charge day by day, i asked the hotel employee to lend me some money until Monday. (I than realized that at that time it was almost 2 months of his small salary), he didn t know me, i could have run away with the money, but he lent me the money ! Than, the women of the restarurant cooked me food without charging trusting me on MOnday i would have paid them. I couldn t believe people could be so friendly and genuine and trust an absolute stranger. This was 26 years ago (before the Mitch) and i still remember that and will remember all my life those amazing people from Tegucigalpa. Very rarely if ever, i met people so genuinely good. So please TRUST ME Honduras has 1000+ problems but it has a very good part and it worths to see it !
@@MaximilianoHerrera72 I have quite a lot of good memories from my childhood in Tegucigalpa, sadly nothing is like it was 30 years ago, where violence and corruption was there but we were able to live a normal life, it was safe to go in a bus it was safe to walk at night, it was safe for kids to be playing outside our homes at night, today the reality is LIKE LIVING IN RIO DE JANEIRO where you have to walk carefully, wear simple clothes, forget about jewelry, forget about showing off your phone, and the worst thing YOU’RE NOT EVEN SAFE PAYING TAXI ANYMORE, because they kidnap people, it happened to a couple of my cousins, it happened to my sister, and that’s why this year I decided not to go to Honduras Anymore. My mom was there two weeks ago and she came back saying THIS WAS MY LAST TRIP TO HONDURAS! Sadly my country is in pain!
Indigo has more professionalism than any reporter or tv team from Honduras.
And by the way I know the father of the young man who was abdupted I call him "Nandito" , he grew up in La Lima , it's very sad situation for the families 😢.

@patts katoey These are not "african" communities, they are American because they have lived in American lands for generations, and speak Spanish, Portuguese and English, exactly that same as Spaniards, Portuguese, French, British, Hindus, and many others who blended into the different cultures upon arrival. These nations are NOT like USA, where people are labelled, differentiated, dehumanized and fed all kinds of toxic ideas by perverse mass-perverters of "public opinion". You won´t "here" about any of us because media keeps you in the dark. Only irrelevant, toxic "news" are fed to the ignorant, blind Cheerio-fed culture.
It's crazy isnt it. African communities are all over place. Even in Mexico they have African communities there that hardly anybody knows about, they are very marginalised. Even in India there are communities there that are a mix of African and Indian ethnicities called the Siddis. This is a subject I'm very interested in.
@@gerardpully762 @gerard pully nice speech but they were dropped off in the Americas/Caribbean just like my ancestors were dropped of in the Caribbean. Their nationality is where they are now and have been for generations, fair enough, but their ethnicity and origin is from the continent of west Africa, two different things. If they are Garifuna as well then the connections are Nigerian, Congolese, Angolan and whatever else. Go to Columbia you find the village of Palenque an all Africa looking village speaking their own version of creole Spanish that has Congolese words mixed in. Problem is they'd been their so long that didn't know which part of Africa they belonged to. Go to Mexico Brazil same thing. The work is being done and the broken connections are being made. I wish them the best I know it's a struggle where ever we are in the world.

Do plan a visit to India and try to make a series on the migrant worker from Bihar and Bengal who work in the agricultural fields of Punjab and Haryana. This was in news recently due to drug abuse and exploitation of these workers
The Garifuna people have always been disadvantaged by the Honduran Government. Most have family next door in Belize which has a larger black / Afro population. I’m saddened by it all because their ancestors are warriors. My heart goes out the family of those who were kidnapped.

Garifunas are one of the best things in honduras, the garifuna culture and garifuna people are so awesome. It's sad that our government doesn't realize this.

An interesting thing about the Garifuna people is that, although they are African in origin, they speak an indigenous American language (Arawakan). Many have moved to NYC.
Many or all are not African in origin, just like Papuans and Fijians (though it's possible they ultimately originated in Africa 60,000 years ago) are not African in origin, and like European whites are not 'Asian in origin.' As proven by thousands of archaeological objects (as well as paintings e.g. those of Agostino Brunias), there were black people in the Americas well prior to European contact, in some cases tens of thousands of years prior. The Nigerian story and shipwreck legends are mostly or all BS, Garifuna are the descendants of 'Black Caribs' who lived on all the islands as well as Venezuela and Guyana at the time of European contact.

@@rebeccarosario7271 That's because there is no reference population for black pre-Columbian Americans. For example, no DNA companies have used black Americans in the US as a reference population (since they are presumed to have all come from Africa), so the results cannot come back as that. The African and even European/Eurasian DNA that comes back are the next closest matches. If European nationalities were not reference populations in DNA testing, Europeans/whites would come back as matches for people in the Caucusus, Kazakhstan, Northern India, etc. (rather than French, German, Italian, Polish, etc.), even though they have not been there anytime recently.
@@debunkinghistory214 Good point. I took my test through Ancestry and they also provide different Indigenous American reference populations. Why doesn't my DNA results match closer to the Indigenous reference populations rather than the African reference populations although you say we have been living among them prior to European Contact. The site tells me that I share 84% African ancestry (3% Indigenous and 13% European). Also, how do you know the shipwreck that most Garifuna believe in is not true. This is strange because the Garifuna language has words that are also spoken by tribes in Nigeria.
I wish we can protect this beautiful part of this nation. For Honduras.

A little bit of misinformation at the beginning, the Garifunas were exiled by the British from Saint Vicent to Roatan in 1797 then they asked the Spanish to be allowed to settle in Honduras. Now they have their own language and culture proudly Honduran. Nothing to do with present day Nigeria!

I love seeing these little villages beside the beach. So authentic. The people live a simple life and that should not be taken away from them by corporations or government. Just let them live in peace. The land is so beautiful and it should remain that way naturally.

I was forced to go to a Mormon ran school in Costa Rica. They locals were the nicest people I’ve ever met. They would give the clothes of their back, a family living on a concrete slab with corrugated tin roof and walls would split their food to feed one more. I get some of the same feelings from Louis and others.

Honduras was always one of my favorite destinations up until a few years ago. Thanks for showing what makes this such a special place.
Last 10 years have been the worst in our country history, run by the most corrupted goverment officials, even having ties with drug cartels. Hopefully elections are this year, from chaos comes order. Hope you come back soon, when things get better.

On YT I saw a sting operation of the Mormon Service in their temple. At the end a hand miraculously comes out from the hall and shakes hand with the Master of Ceremonies. I tell you that hand is that of satan himself. He has deceived them to worship him in their masonic ceremonies. Sad.
Anyhow Jesus has now given his final warning to USA to repent else it faces destruction in apocalyptic events, New York being first. Sad.
With such a content you deserve a way more subscribers than 900k. And I am pretty sure, that soon after 1 million those numbers are going to grow and grow :).

Thank you Indigo for providing some awareness on the Guarifanas. The Guarifanas acknwoledge both their African & indigenous roots at the heart of their community. Guarifanas and other eco-Indigenist activist leaders have been fighting for land rights for years. Both these groups understand that corporations ruin the land and water supplies which all leads to more poverty. If you are American, you need to understand how our country actually allows so many businesses to ruin Central American and continue this vicious cycle of poverty, corruption, and violence. As a US-born and raised Salvadoran-American born, I hate how these beautiful ecosystems that many people understood how to live with have been ruined by the greedy corruption of my US government and other governments. The Garifuna have a real stronghold but need the support. That's why Clara was excited to have the chance to spread the word through an international youtuber. Many of us can use our money as a way to make decisions and address the elected officials that continue to support this issue. These people are poor and resistance is futile without the world looking at them. Please learn more about this community & its real fight against corporations.

It was settled by the Garafuna/Black Caribs from St Vincent and the Grenadines; who were deported from St Vincent after the war with the British. They are not Nigerians.
After the arrival of the English to St. Vincent in 1667, English Army officer John Scott wrote a report on the island for the English crown, noting that St. Vincent was populated by Caribs and a small number of Blacks from two Spanish slave ships which had wrecked on its shores. Later, in 1795, the British governor of St. Vincent, William Young, noted in another report, addressed to the British Crown, that the island was populated by Black slaves from two Spanish slave ships that had sunk near the island of San Vincent in 1635 (although, according to other authors such as Idiáquez, the two slave ships wrecked between 1664 and 1670). The slave ships were destined to the West Indies (Bahamas and Antilles). According to Young's report, after the wreck, slaves from the Igbo ethnic group from what is now Nigeria, escaped and reached the small island of Bequia. There, the Caribs enslaved them and brought them to Saint Vincent. However, according to Young, the slaves were too independent of "spirit", prompting the Caribs to make plans to kill all the African male children. When Africans heard about the Caribs' plan, they rebelled and killed all the Caribs they could find, then headed to the mountains, where they settled and lived with other slaves who had taken refuge there before them. From the mountains, the former slaves attacked and killed the Caribs continually, reducing them in number.[17]
