- The judge overseeing Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial fined the former U.S. president $9,000 for contempt of court on Tuesday (April 30) and said he would consider jailing him if he continued to violate a gag order.
In a written order, Justice Juan Merchan said the fine may not be enough to serve as a deterrent for the wealthy businessman-turned-politician and lamented he did not have the authority to impose a higher penalty.
Merchan had imposed the gag order to prevent Trump from criticizing witnesses and others involved in the case.

I want the thank en masse, the United States Judiciary system. I’ve heard mention of this “privileged” class, and wondered if it was imagined...and now I have clear, unequivocal validation. I can see why one, would seek to retain such an exclusive right. Of course you must realize, that government agencies will now need to “rule” by fear and intimidation, given that law and order is biased, selective and in some cases, NON-EXISTENT! One or more countries come to mind where this is how things are done...the names escape me at the moment.
If an ordinary citizen did what Trump does, he would have been jailed by now.
Adjusted for the disparity in income, that's about what I pay for a parking ticket. What a crock of BS.
