It's clear to see that Bird is moving like a 90 year old man. He also had a back brace on. Poor Horace Grant still has nightmares on how Bird was torching him in this game.

Your point about Grant is valid. Bird was playing the 4 at this time (Parish, Bird, Gamble, Shaw, and Lewis were the starting 5), so Bulls had no choice.

The game was much more strategic and contested back then I cant even watch now.
Sorry I'm late to comment on this epic Bird/Jordan game. You, sir, are a man after my own heart. When I first saw these highlights, a few months ago, I wanted to watch the whole game too! And I did! The whole game was actually on youtube as of earlier this year. If you watch it, you'll see that they didn't keep Grant on Bird the whole game.
Grant was on Bird for the first half. Pippen took Bird for the 3rd quarter. At the beginning of the 4th, they switched out and put Jordan on Bird. (Even the announcers remark that is "most unusual.") That only lasted until about halfway through the 4th. Jordan and Bird had overlapped in the NBA for about 7 seasons at this point and Jordan just wasn't good at guarding Bird. This is no shade on Jordan because he was a superb 1v1 defender and one of the all time great defenders. It's just that Bird was too big for Jordan. They put Pippen back on him then and he stayed on Bird for the remainder of the 4th and all of the 1st overtime. Grant went back on Bird for the 2nd overtime, which was the first time he'd been primarily on him since the first half. (Cliff Levingston only guarded Bird in this game if someone was taking a rest.)
I think it's interesting that this was an epic battle between Bird and Jordan and everyone is always concerned with Horace Grant guarding Bird and hardly anyone is concerned with who's guarding Jordan. Reggie Lewis mostly guarded Jordan (although different Celtics would come over to help and Bird would go 1v1 with Jordan for some plays, or stay with Jordan when Jordan was on him.)
For comparison, here are their defensive stats for this game:
Grant: 12 def rebs/1 stl /1 blk
Lewis: 1 def rebs/1 stl /4 blk

I think Horace Grant was a good player and defender who was underappreciated and underutilized during his time with Chicago, for some reason. I don't know why.
Grant was a solid defender but the main theory was probably Grant being their best bet to keep Larry off the boards. To put Pippen on Bird, they’d have to put Grant on Gamble, which would have been a bigger mismatch, cuz Gamble was pretty much a speedy SG with a deadeye spot-up playing at SF.
Grant was noted for his defensive play; he was selected four times for the NBA All-Defensive Team. He helped Chicago win three consecutive NBA championships (1991, 1992, and 1993), securing the third with a last-second block on Kevin Johnson.

back in the day when the home team wore their white uniforms and the road team wore their dark uniforms. Also the venue is not the TD Garden, it's the old Boston Garden. I'm not sure if this game was a play-in for the Vegas cup or not.

In 1992 Bird had a 49 point triple double while wearing a full body brace.
Down by 5 with 16 seconds left, he scored 7 points in those 16 seconds, sending it to overtime with a circus three. The last great game of his career, a few weeks before retiring.
The way I look at it is; If They had put Scotty on Bird the whole time, Well Scotty wouldn't have been able to get those Scoring #'s & He could have been sitting From Fouling to much on Bird. So it's kinda like "Picking Your Poison". Pretty much it was a guarantee 2-Points if They Foul Bird also. That would be a hard call for any Team.?.

What makes Bird the goat is that if you had MJ with his injuries after five years and played seven more you didn’t mention the double Achilles surgery give all those other guys his injuries after five years and see how long they last before they retired

I think thats the beauty of it! Larry wanted to win and Dee taking it is almost a testiment of Birds greatness! He didnt care about who made it but created it!
