Haha I did this without even realising. When mine was a kitten I didn’t have much money and one of the first things I bought was a carrier and put her blanket in there so she could use it as a safe place away from all my giant human friends that would come over. When she felt safe she’d come out and say hello to everyone but it was her little home within our home.
My cat goes in his carrier without me saying anything or doing anything. Sometimes he'll just go inside to be inside and i think he's trying to tell me he wants to go out somewhere haha
That’s fantastic! I love it when cats are comfortable inside their carrier! It makes traveling much enjoyable for everyone involved!! (Also, who doesn’t want to go on vacation, right?)
Hiii! I found all of your videos to be very helpful. Could you talk more about how you took your kitten on the road trip when you just got her. I just had my kitty for 3 weeks and we are going on a trip that was planned before, I want to make sure she is not traumatized by that experience:)
I put my carrier out about a month after I first adopted my adult cat. She went from being playful and energetic to hiding and afraid to play. I put treats, blankets, toys, I rewarded, etc etc. After 3 weeks of watching her remain in a stressed state, I put the carrier away and her personality came back. I don't think we'll ever be able to succeed at carrier training. :(
Hey Albert! I love your videos, they really helped me a lot. Now I am trying to make my cat do something only on verbal commands. If you have any tips, I would love to see a video on that 😊 best wishes to Mia and you 🐱😺
That's great! Verbal commands only is hard with cats. There's a bit of it in this video but I could do a full video about it for sure! Basically, say the command out loud before you do the visual command and wait a few seconds before you do the visual command. They will end up linking the two. At some point, if motivation is high enough, they won't wait for the visual command and they'll do the trick directly. (Sit is a very good trick to start with)
This is a great video! Do you have any tips on how to train a cat without using treats? My cat doesn't like any treats. He's not food motivated at all. Thank you!
I feed her raw treats, my cat Mia likes freezed dried chicken a lot: amzn.to/3tjrVT9 Also, I learned that when a cat is not food-motivated, it's very easy to narrow down why! I wrote a short article to help you find out: www.outdoorbengal.com/blogs/clicker-training-cats/my-cat-doesnt-like-treats-train-a-cat-thats-not-food-motivated
Hi Albert! We just found your channel, as we are considering getting a Bengal and want to train them , so we can take them everywhere, like you and Mia. We really love all the videos you’re doing! We have trained dogs before, but never cats. Question : My husband has allergies, and we saw that you do, too, but you said they got better after 4 months with Mia. How are your allergies now? Would love to have an update! Thanks for all the training tips! 🙌🏽
My allergies to most cats are gone after prolonged exposure, not only to Mia, but to all cats. It's pretty good now, although for a while I thought I would not be able to manage...
I’m another cat allergy-haver! When I first got cats, my face was red from the allergic reaction. You definitely get exposure therapy from them, and it’ll improve over time. If my cat scratches me, the skin will puff up as an allergic reaction. While I was getting immunotherapy shots this reaction went away completely at some point. Now that I’ve stopped, it puffs up a little. That’s the only allergy symptom I still have. I figured sharing my experience would help you better anticipate what it would be like. So unless it’s like … deathly allergies or anything, don’t be too worried :)
Please may I ask what is the best back pack for carrying a Bengal Cat. We are going to be cat sitting for our Sons cat whilst they are on vacation for 10 days. We live in a very rural part and I walk and want to be able to take her out with me when I walk, but invariably I sometimes come across dog walkers so I need to be able to have a carrier to keep her safe. Thank you Mia is so sweet and cute, and your TH-cam channel is brilliant and so informative.
@outdoorBengal, I love watching your videos together with my Bengal - Indy! 🐆 Please make a video about how you get a full night sleep with Mia! I get awaken once a twice a night by crazy cat screaming, no matter how much we've played during the day..
Hey!! As you said, playtime is the best solution but there are a couple other things you can do. Take a look at this video (already did it) ahah th-cam.com/video/95F_4Qi586A/w-d-xo.html
@@DigiTreks Do you think it's possible that free feeding made him not care about treats? Because he's used to food being available anyway and it doesn't motivate him?
My boy is starting to not like the carrier. He use to hop in it every morning to go to work with me and the last week or two he doesn't want to get in the carrier, I think because he now associates the carrier with the car. And he gets upset in the car even though hes been in a car almost daily for the last 5 months. I'm stuck on how to calm him down. I've done positive associates with both and he use to love the carrier up until recently and he was okay with the car when he was little when I first got him (hes 8months now and I got him at 3 months.) But now he is not a fan of the car and I dont know how to fix this cause he loves when he is with me at work or hiking he just hates the travel to get there. Any advice??
I had one of the largest crates for my dog (Tinker Bell - Tinker for short, a Pomeranian {that didn't Puff up, yahoo} she is very small) anyway, I would tell her to go to her room. And My cat, Squeak would follow her into it. They are best friends. Tinker taught Squeak how to fly. You know, the chasing that they do. I swear that they watch the WWF, because of the head locks and entertaining wrestling moves that the two of them would actually do. But if either of them saw the phone or camera all activity would stop! Ok, "go to your room" was all I had to say. Thank You for your videos. And have a great day. 🐕🐈🐬🐧🌵(◠‿◕)
Each cat is different, one like this is ok with carriers, others do not want small closed spaced that restricts their movment and no matter what treat you use it wont work.
I have a cat carrier (the plastic hard top one). But she associates it very negatively as I used it to take her to the vet in it. She had fallen from 5th floor and badly injured, we rushed her to the vet in the carrier. She's healthy now, but still refrains to go in. How do I relax her from that trauma? Should I get a different carrier and train her the way you did it?
Those carriers are great. My recommendation is for you to: - Take the carrier out and leave out - Place treats every day (at random times) inside the carrier - Use clicker training create a positive association by clicking and rewarding when you see them get in Try this for a couple weeks. Should be more than enough. Adding a blanket helps make them feel safe as they can impregnate it with their pheromones. Good luck!
I like finger targeting. I don't like the stick at all. Why would you put yourself in the position to require a tool? Verbal commands are ideal, but I haven't mastered that yet. Well, I have, but Hobbes hasn't.
Albert. I got a bengal kitten who's almost 1 years old. I've had her for 2 months and she still doesn't come near me and acts scared. I'm beginning to lose hope and am thinking about giving her up. Is this normal? How long does it take for her to adapt to me?

There are many good alternatives! A word cue like "YES" or "GOOD" work well. Also snapping fingers it's an option. Hey our bengal doesn't like treats. How do you suggest we train him? All the tips in this video are just training with treats. 😢
I'm just curious, do you free feed your cat?
@jamiev7165 we do, he is on a raw diet. But he is a little odd, where as most cats are motivated by food, he will only eat when he is hungry.
@@DigiTreks Do you think it's possible that free feeding made him not care about treats? Because he's used to food being available anyway and it doesn't motivate him?
@jamiev7165 he isn't free fed, he has measured portions and a routine. The funny thing is, his sister loves treats. Just our boy is awkward 😅
Sorry didn't see free feed on your original reply.

how long did it take to train your cat to respond to the finger/treat call?
Just a couple days! I have tutorials in the channel teaching how to do it!

As soon as I get her to do it, I'll let you know which way is her favorite because that will definitely be mine. 😊
