    IMO, one of the best watercolorists out there. Her paintings have so much vibrancy in them. Love the paints she uses also, gotta say I think Holbein and Mijello mission gold are amazingly vibrant and so beautiful, and go well with her style. Love Soon's work, she is truly one of the best!

    Thank you for including your palette and water in the video. I'm new and picking up paint is what I struggle with. Other videos don't show that. Amazing work!

    Actually got the full time on Artistsnetwork.tv - for $5 - (for an hour and half plus++ lessons)well worth the money spent to watch the whole process from start to finish...and then give it a go while watching. It's good to watch it through once, and then gather supplies to be ready to do it on my own. First off...I need to find 300 lb test paper - which is hard to find in craft stores. I may give it a go with 140 test first...if that works.

    • @oldfella3011
      @oldfella3011 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Take your 140 pound paper... wet it thoroughly... wait a few minutes and then using the 'water' tape and attache it to your board. The paper will be prestreched and won't buckle when doing wet on wet.

    Ive been to the materials list for this workshop and it's not helping at all since it's generic words : "Synthetic bristles (for scrubbing)
    Sable or synthetic/sable mixed rounds (for main application)
    Hake (for underpainting"
    How is this any help if we want to get the same brushes she used for main application ? synthetic or sable rounds can describe hundreds of brushes

      I saw this question, but you asked it 5 years ago. Maybe you know by now, but if you still need an an answer it would be that she could probably do this painting with just about any brush. It's rarely if ever a brush that makes the difference in a painting. I used to wish I had the perfect brush or paint so I could do what I watched others do, but then I noticed more than once that time-on-tools is the main differentiator. Once you have practiced many, many times, you could probably paint watercolor well with any number of brushes and paints. Sure, some are easier to some degree, and maybe even a bit better, but the most important things are getting the drawing right, and getting the values (light and dark) right. Hope this offers you some help. Unfortunately, there is no substitute for practice and more practice. I wish there was.

    That. Is. Amazing. I'm just getting back into watercolors and this is so inspiring. Thank you.
    What is the tool you are using to remove the masking fluid? Also, what brand mask are you using?
    Funny observation, we had dinner plates as a kid just like the one you are using as a pallet!

    Soon-Yi's work might be stunning, but she really needs to find a better person for the sub-titles.
