Thank you VERY much! You did not disappoint. This is a WAY cheaper and easier solution than what I had planned. I will be building the same. 👍🏼
Still using mine today with no issue.
You have a lot of faith in that winch/hoist mount above your head! 😁
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the video
Glad the video helped!
Perfect... Exactly what I need. Thanks
You're welcome! Glad it helped.
That’s a good idea.....I kneed one of those in my garage.....CHEERS
Neat idea for unistrut trolley
Thanks! It has been working great for the few times I have used it.
I really like the unistrut with a bolt on each side. I haven't seen that version before... I'm also going to be bolting mine directly into the ceiling joists and I don't like the brackets that most people use that drop the unistrut down a couple inches from the ceiling as my garage ceiling is fairly low; I was thinking about a deeper channel and just bolting through the holes into the joists, but the unistrut you use uses 2x the lag bolts and that gives me a bit more confidence.
Thanks for watching! I haven't had any issues with this design yet. I have found I use it more than I thought I would. I think if I were to redesign it, I wouldn't use lag bolts but maybe threaded rod or long bolts to go through the ceiling and to a steal plate or something equivalent that rests on top of the truss. Would take a little more work but would be stronger than lag bolts.
@@UpperPeninsulaDIY My garage is directly below my kitchen and I have no way to access the top of the trusses for a through-bolt type install.
Do you happen to have a link to the Unistrut that you purchased / that's in the video? I looked at the Amazon link in your comment and it's not the same Unistrut as in the video.
It's been a while but I believe you are right about unistrut link. I provided that as an example but I should update that now that you say that. I got the unistrut at menards I believe because that was the only way to get a full 10 foot piece. Menards SKU: 3656562. I'm sure any big box store near you would have it.
@@UpperPeninsulaDIY Thanks a lot. Much appreciated. There's no Menards where I live, but hopefully I can find that brand somewhere local.
Glad to see it up. I have been thinking of one in my shop. Question, I have an 8-ft long barn door / pocket door system, do you think it would hold? I'll show it this week.
I actually looked at similar beams at Tractor Supply. They seem very rigid.
@@UpperPeninsulaDIY Thanks, I started it today, I am loading the vid as I reply.
Great for hoisting something after a successful hunt.
Absolutely! Can't wait to try it out with a nice buck this fall!
Thanks for this video, my plan was to add 2x6 across joist with channel struts in each. Then seed the strut into each channel strut. The issue I had when doing a dry run on sawhorses was I had to hammer in the channel struts on the strut which would be very difficult doing this once attached to ceiling. I love your idea of welding the angle iron much like more. That eliminates the channel struts and 2x6’s. What drill bit did you use to drill into the and bracket? I have some cobalt bits and some oil, is that what you used? How long did it take to drill through one bracket?
I believe I used a 1/2" drill bit. Used the drill press to drill each hole, went pretty smooth. Good luck on your project! Thanks for watching!
Can you do more maintenance videos on the king quad
I just a full service on it this spring. Didn't make a video though.
Did you do any reinforcement in the attic with the trusses? Or just bolt it from he underside?
I didn't do any reinforcing to the trusses but my trusses are over built using 2x6's. Thanks for watching!
Drywall anchors
@@jessihawkins9116lmao yea that would hold it
How much weight can the actual unistrut handle? Could you lift a moose?
I'm not sure what the limit of it would be. A 1,500 pound moose might be a bit much for the unistrut.
Instead of welding angle to the sides of the strut, manufacturers make brackets to suspend the channel. Unistrut P1834-EG is their bracket but Superstrut and Bline make the same brackets.
You are exactly right Sir! I actually ordered some but they came in the wrong size. Shipped them back but wasn't gonna wait for another order. Thanks for watching and commenting!
What Would you say the full weight of the quad is?
Dry weight is 600 pounds, add weight of oil, gas, winch, aftermarket tires. I would guess around 650 total weight.
@@UpperPeninsulaDIY thank you
Hey. You're still around. =)
Hey there, yup I'm still around. I don't post as much as I would like to but I'm still here.
@@UpperPeninsulaDIYit hasn’t fallen yet?🤔
this isn’t going to end well 😔
Still working great!
Explain why
@@steveg2509 it’s going to fall on someone
Fair enough. Hopefully he addressed it
