    In this video I build a keyboard tray for our home office. We picked up a rather nice used desk but it did not have a pull out tray for the keyboard and mouse. I recycled the glide tracks from our old desk and built this keyboard tray from a nice piece of cherry that I picked up from a local sawyer.

    Truly do not understand the hostility/sarcasm/ passive aggressiveness in the comment section.
    This video was short, to the point and literally provides sequential order on how to approach building with wood.
    The music was far less annoying than other chanels. I guess people like the sound of saws..... Carpenters literally wear ear protection to mitigate ear damage lol...
    DIY = not professional
    Tools are expensive and an investment if you have interest in any hobby.
    So saying that "what's the point if you don't have 10k in tools"
    You've prob never tried building anything from wood. You literally need all these things as dumb as it sounds. If you have a problem, then buy a keyboard tray and don't watch.
    Hats off dude. As a novice wood worker who is thinking of starting a channel. I appreciate the great camera angles, the milling of the lumber and the design of the piece. I can see why the other guy said it might hit your legs and I value both points made. My sugession is making the tray length longer than a person's legs so no nicking happens, or extending the tray length to the width of the table supports but I see why you did it the way you did.

    I guess DIY videos like these are more to showcase the skill of making things. definitely not something that most people who watch this can do. Looks nice to watch something being made. You can relate this to the discovery channel's "how it's made". DIY probably needs to be looked at from both angles I guess - to save money OR just for a hobby no matter how much time or money gets spent.

      These comments kill me… The only thing remotely close to professional in my small garage is the table saw…and even that is only the 1.75 hp version. Working with rough lumber it’s either a power planer/jointer or hand tools to get it smooth and square. How would you propose I make this tray from the piece of cherry wood I had without these tools??

      @@DanPrudlow Video title "...reclaimed hardware" gives one the impression the video is going to be about about economic salvage. A board planer is considered professional equipment by vast majority of the public, as it's far too expensive equipment to buy, for making a keyboard tray. Let alone do so out of cherry wood.
      But regardless of that, it did indeed show us how to salvage and reuse keyboard tray hardware, which is helpful.

    Actually, while it seems very nice with physical wood etc, it's the worse tray I've ever seen... Your knees will suffer every time you will collide them with the sharp edges of the small woods hanging from the desk. There are special mechanisms for keyboard trays. All are hanging from the center and the back side of the office, there is a reason for that... Nice work with the wood though.

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ll respectfully disagree with you on the knees colliding thing. We’ve been using it well over a year and to my knowledge nobody has hit it. The bottom of the tray is the same height as that board hanging down. You would have to sit with your knees higher than the level of the tray (which would make no sense) to have a chance at hitting anything. Thanks for watching and the comment!
