I’m going to get a lot of mixed opinions about my choice to continue riding through my pregnancy…

  • At the end of the day, you know your body the best and what is or isn’t safe for you and the baby. And if your Dr. approves and you understand that you need to listen to your body - I see nothing wrong with continuing to ride as long as you’re able.
    When my body tells me it’s time to stop - we stop.

    I had a good friend who rode all the way through two pregnancies. Her OBGYN said that a woman can do pretty much anything as long as she was doing it before she became pregnant. She used common sense and had no problems at all. It's not uncommon to see runners and gym rats go through pregnancy with no break in routine. Of the women I've known the ones who stay active actually seem to have fewer problems.

    • @rudniktheroan
      @rudniktheroan  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

      Yes! That’s the main part people forget. ‘As long as she was doing it before’! Don’t decide to pickup a whole new sport or hobby after finding out you’re pregnant. In that situation then yes, it absolutely becomes a much higher risk. But women who body build, compete in competitive sports etc - all of them continue to do so through their pregnancies because their bodies are already used to it. I’m not going to randomly decide to pickup body building now because I would 100% be doing so much damage to my body.

      @@rudniktheroan There is a bit more bouncing it looks like with riding, then say lifting weights.... But you and your horse have the bond and as long as your doc says it is safe then you should keep doing what brings you peace as long as it is safe.... I do not own a horse nor have I ever been on a horse, so honestly I do not know how much bouncing there is... Some riders seam to stay sitting in the saddle, some seam to push them self's up with there legs and lower in pace with the horses movements... I am here to learn about horses after all, so please do not take this as saying to keep going or to stop, as end of the day you know more about riding then I do so trust your judgement and listen to the folks in your life like your guy and your doc... Keep in mind your guy should point out what he sees as risks to help keep you healthy and safe as your partner, and your doc should know your body the best outside of you so really lean on them 2 for input.... @@jonathanbair523 "Some riders seam to stay sitting in the saddle, some seam to push them self's up with there legs and lower in pace with the horses movements" -- that depends a lot on the gait of the horse (how fast it is going). When the horse is at a trot, it helps to move your body up and down in time with the horse's movement to avoid being bumped and to make it more comfortable for the horse. However, if the horse is walking or galloping, you don't need to do that.

I grew up with cats and dogs, so I know some of them you can trust while others have that wild free spirit... Rudnik seams to be the kind of animal that really bonds and cares for his human, so I do not think he would do anything to hurt her. Some of the past videos I see she had mentioned where he rubs the side of his face on her front allot more gently then he did before she was pregnant with his own will rather then her telling him to be gentle... But ya with my extreme limited bit of knowledge and never been on a horse my self, I would say trust the input of her Fianc'e and her doc and her bond with Rudnik.... *shrugs* Keep working as a team, as they are there to help support you and see you healthy/safe..... Folks that have horses would know more then me, and lady's that had kid while the time they rode would be best for advice outside of your team (your partner, doc and horse)...

You are keeping yourself fit by riding. I bet Rudnik senses something is different and he will accommodate you. When your body tells you to stop, you can lunge him so you keep your relationship going. Just being around him, grooming him, rubbing his ears is great for your mental well-being and his. I agree - this is an issue between you, your doctor and Rudnick…
    When I was pregnant - it’s been a while, the Boy will be 26 in about a week. - I was told to continue ALL physical activity as long as I felt safe.
    I was, at the time, a competitive pistol shooter in something called IPSC, which is basically a “combat style” competition.
    I competed until 2 weeks before delivery - I made adjustments, never shot alone after a certain point during practice, and if I thought a shooting position was potentially “hazardous”, like going completely prone for a shooting position, I took the penalties and shot the stage in a way that I felt was safer for me and the baby.
    Never EVER discount your own instincts when it comes to your safety.
    Rudnick is a big guy, even for a quarter horse (haven’t ridden in years, but LOVE my cow ponies!!) and he doesn’t see you as “fragile”.
    You’re the “boss mare”, and respected as such…

    We mainly agree that as long as you're able, you ride. Rudnik is quite careful with you since you conscieved, and he sure seems aware that you are trusting him to be steady, not spook at scary weeds, and to obey commands smoothly.
    I do think it would be good for all of you if B takes over riding Rudkin when you choose to not ride anymore. Sure you can work him by lunging, but it is also a great opportunity for B and Rudnik to have Boy-time together, and B can hone his new riding skills. The boys will do fine in the arena, and even on short trail rides!

    (Former RN and mother of one).
    I have to say you should consult with your doctor or midwife.
    There are a couple of issues:
    Hypoxia or lack of oxygen. Your baby gets its oxygen through your blood. If you find yourself breathing heavily, remember that's what your baby is experiencing, except that s/he can't breathe; s/he's counting on you.
    Physical damage. In the later months, you may perforate the amniotic sac, and the baby needs to be delivered within a day or so because of the danger of infection. If the baby is fairly mature, it may not be a problem (neonatal ICU), but if it is not, you may lose it.
    On the other hand, two approaches, same outcome: I had a friend who was pregnant around the same time as I was. I walked a lot for exercise, but she was a tomboy and jogged and went skiing. Her doctor was on her case to sit still. Her baby was born at five pounds, and she looked pretty poorly when she was born (like a bluish, drowned rat), but grew up to be beautiful and smart and is now a mother herself. My baby was born a bit underweight at 6.11 because my placenta failed and my amniotic sac began leaking at six months (due to an amniotic procedure earlier in the pregnancy and the fact that I was forty). My doctor was on my case to have an abortion. I spent the rest of the time in bed after the leaking. I also bled several times throughout the pregnancy. My baby was pink and beautiful after an emergency c-section (before which her heart stopped). She is also beautiful and smart but so far, not a mother.
    So you are right, and you'll know what to do. The issue I would fear is the lack of oxygen. If you are panting, your baby is also.

    Listening to your body is important (different situation but as someone who lives with chronic pain since the age of 14 & another disability I’ve had to listen,stop & slow down when it comes to my body)Even when it means having to forgo one or more days doing something I really enjoy which is either swimming or going for a long walk,I used to beat myself up about it bc I am about 90 percent ambulatory and try & push myself more but found out the hard way that it’s not the best idea to always do it that way. Everyone is different & will have their own plan,way to go about doing something and it is ok that everyone does what works for them. Rudnik is a good boy and he’ll continue to take care of you no matter how long you decide to keep riding I for one can’t wait to see him with his newest BFF.🤗🐎🖤💙

    That stumble on some horses could have resulted in an all out fit. Or sudden stop. Rudnik caught himself and as gracefully as possible maintained forward motion slowed. He is highly aware of you. Perhaps when you are further along showing him obstacles such as trail events use and walk him around and over them will keep you both active and engaged in enjoyable time together while expanding experiences. He is a Darling. ❤

    Actually, riding during pregnancy is good. It strengthens core muscles and muscles you will need when giving birth. It is also beneficial to the fetus. Your deeper breathing adds oxygen to your bloodstream. Not to mention that once you have the baby, please do bring him/her with you into contact with Rudnik, and the dust and other horses. It cuts down on allergies. Early exposure is key. I know people whose parents were almost antiseptically clean... and the child was allergic to everything! Plus, horses sometimes have a real relationship with very young children. They recognize the child's age and frailty (with regards to horse size and strength) and are gentle and even watchful over the child.

    Well you also have to know the biology of pregnancy, so you don't just have to rely on how you feel. Some women have a weaker cervix and are bedbound due to the stress on it causing bleeding etc. They would get issue much faster on a horse. Echoes to see where your placenta is. Nearing delivery your tendons soften to allow for birth resulting in pelvic instability which lands some women in a wheelchair. Obviously that makes riding a horse a bad idea in case anything slips out of position. You may only feel that when it's too late.
    Riding a horse always carries a risk, another horse woman I follow had an incident in which she fell of her horse despite all her expirience and the horse being nice and she wound up in a coma, it was kind of a miracle she got out of that as well as she did. Young strong working with horses all day, two young kids, she was also wearing her helmet. A horse is simply a flight animal, they don't have to be easily spooked to move in strange ways, they slip too. So I think that's another reason to not ride close to 9 months when there is so little amneotic fluid to carry any bumbs.

    • @brianrong
      @brianrong 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @rudniktheroan your reasoning there is flawed.
      Those are machines that you're in control of.
      A horse is an animal, you might try to control him, and being such a gentle, loving & clever horse , he'll trust your directions, most of the time.

    • @rudniktheroan
      @rudniktheroan  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      But you’re not in control of the drivers around you? How many accidents are caused by others? I understand your point but at the same time - we can’t stop our lives. The toll it would take on our mental health. As pregnant women were already so susceptible to depression and mental health problems. If we have an outlet that allows us to still enjoy our lives (while still listening to our body and knowing when enough is enough) then we need to be able to continue to enjoy them. We are always cautious which is why we don’t do anything crazy and we have stepped back and toned down a lot of what we do to decrease those risks that come
      with it. But like with anything in life, anything can happen no matter how in control you may think you are, but we can’t live in fear. We can just be cautious and careful in continuing to enjoy those things
