    My cousin has gone to every single Long Beach GP since 1975 except for 84 (because he and his dad were mad that F1 left). But he told me this is the best sounding engine he's ever heard.

    I did see these F1 cars through the 50's, until modern day, racing up to 20 years ago was very exciting.

    Thus why I and many other racing enthusiast like the sound, feel, and danger from the 60's, 70's, and 80's better than any other time period in F1.

    very gifted driver Jaques Laffite, sometimes sadly overshadowed by lesser driver's.
    he could make the matra talk to you.
    Incredible driver, Incredible car,

    On-board cameras: Like some have noted, this has been done for many decades. In the 1960s, it was not all that unusual as some racing coverage used it and even oil company commercials and on TV series. I was always riveted when the road racing prepped Camaro would go under the GULF bridge at 145 on one TV ad. Also, the TV series, Mannix, in September1968 had an episode which opened at a race course. There's much good footage of the open-wheel formula car he's driving with some in-car.

    Cameras on F1 'Grand Prix' 1966. Monza here was the same track as the movie, with over and underpasses. It was overly dangerous and massively cut down after Peterson's crash. Lafitte was certainly not in the top drawer of drivers, and the clip was in practice. Crashes at Monza tended to be fatal, and the one with Von Trips in 1961 took out about 20 spectators also.

    @nolanbowling Im more of a NASCAR enthusiast (though this bird hums a sweet tune), and I feel as if its the same thing. Given what they were, there was something novice about hearing those beastly groans hum around the track, but then knowing that if you could get into a muscle car and turn a wrench or two, you could get that sound for yourself. These cars are just raw powerful sonic beauty. The race cars of today seem more akin to jet fighters than actual "cars".

  • @NolanScottRealtor
    @NolanScottRealtor  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    I get this comment all the time, and IMO, it's because of two things. The equipment sucked compared to today's standards, thus the cars are much harder to drive on the limit. This also contributes to the 2nd fact, that the cars were less safe. I personally think that racing today is more entertaining, because drivers are more aggressive and can work the cars better. It more so than anything depends on the form of racing we're talking about, but these here are hard to beat.

    I have seen some rather nice V12s and by far the best was the extremely rare Maserati Tipo 64 RearEngine Birdcage V12 at Riverside in 1962. Like a Ferrari on steroids, it was still grasping for traction down the straight at 150+. I don't think it started, and like all birdcage Maseratis it was physically impossible to assemble the chassis with all welds intact. It represented the final, psychotic break of spaceframes finally rendered obsolete with the Lotus 25 of 1962. See also 'Jim Clark.'

    to RoLLWithTOasis1 - V12 Matra 3000cc ,
    roughly rated over 500 bhp at 12500 rpm.
    Awesome sound but actually neither a relyable nor an extr.powerful engine though ,compared to v12 Ferrari and V8 Ford Cosworth.About driving aids in 1978 the wing cars age got started....till being banned in 1982 if I correctly recall.
    Possibly the first major aerod.aid which allowed terrific cornering speeds if just the drivers were daring enough to keep full throttle open in spite of pure skill.

    There will be only ONE turbo in V6 1.6 in 2014. And there will be engines' limit. The 2014 won't repeat the 1984 with its twinturbo monsters of 1000 hp.

    This reminds me of how much I hate modern curbs in F1. See these curbs? They were CURBS! You had to actually drive on the $#@%ing TRACK. Now the drivers just crash over the curbs as if they weren't there , and complain if they can't.
