Will not succumb. You can't just forget it, can't walk away from pain and blocking out traumatic events that just happened. It's you, now. And a struggle forever to stick with you, through each passing moment.
and as he gets further in the fight, as OMORI becomes more overpowering, more sounds are pulled in, and they drown out the violin, until you can barely hear it, and you start hearing the pained, distorted voices of (most likely) mari
This is a boss where the main character literally fights his suicidal thoughts and loses. Before I knew that, I didn't know the why the visuals and energy of the fight's design were so crushing and bleak, but now with that notion, I can truly appreciate this fight. Omori is true art.
This fight is such a great representation of overcoming your greatest enemy, yourself. Probably one of the best boss fights I’ve ever played in a game, not because it had great visuals or interesting gameplay, but because of how heart wrenching it is and how it feels like a conclusion, I love omori
I think the most influential (and accurate) aspect of this battle, is that when Omori berates Sunny, he repeats certain phrases: "people like you don't deserve to live," "it would be better to just die," and finally, over and over, "you should just die." This is how it feels when you're suicidal, like those words repeating and repeating, not necessarily audibly except in the case of hallucinations, when its arguably the least endurable. It's internally sourced manipulation. "Suicide (self-kill) is a poorly made word: what kills is not identical to what is killed." - Andre Breton Omori separates from Sunny. He morphs from an entity piloted by Sunny, to suppress trauma, into a being of his own; a sickness. It's like cancer. When cells mutate and replicate out of control, they are not any longer the host's cells. They become parasitic, stealing energy and growing and growing into their own, monstrous sickness, until at last the sickness kills. In OMORI's bad ending, it is essential to understand what kills is not identical to what is killed.
Interesting fact: With the necklace charm, and a beyond reasonable human limits of calming down, it is possible to beat OMORI, or at the very least, reach the necessary phase to complete the game, without cherishing once.
@@lonerimortal8 Yeah, but it's the point. Sometimes depression beats you down, it's not as simple as calming down and cherishing memories. You also have to get up after you've fallen. Which is probably harder than anything ever is, i can't imagine myself in Sunny's shoes
10:07 around this part if you look in the background that’s all his friends hanging or people hanging, and in the audio it sounds like someone falling or screaming and then going on to crying or having a panic attack
OMORI SPOILERS my theory: 10:07 scream is mari sudden reaction while being pushed, after that you can hear beats (as in someone was falling step by step of an stair) and you can hear an distorced loud sound. that is problably sunny sobbing on that picture that mari is on the bed.
This whole thing hit really hard for me because I struggle against myself too, and have thoughts like this a lot.. sounds silly but I had tears rolling down my cheeks while doing this battle. Definitely a first for me in gaming and I've been playing games over 25 years. Such a beautiful game!! Powerful..
This game, and this fight, was so truly powerful. Genuinely had to put down the game because I was crying for how similar these thoughts sounded. I really hope your doing better
In reality you cant win against yourself, you just have to live with the things you have done.... we all wish to change the past... but we have made peace with the past and you must make peace with your guilt
one thing I realized is starting from stage 5 there are distortions almost, inside of it you can hear incoherent words of a female and something else, perhaps that's sunny's and mari's argument. I think at around 10:00 you can hear "stop it," I don't know who is saying it but it follows with a loud thump and a scream... goes without saying what that is
New fan of omori here thanks to console release but the ending sequence of this game just broke my soul. And I finally cried during this fight. To me atleast, right here and then I saw omori as a form of depression, I already saw something as guilt and Maris ghost as trauma but omori would be the source of it all, the guilt the constant reminders of what happened, the self hatred. All of it and iunno why but just having a fight where one fight their depression and that depression isn't shown as a big scary monster but just, you and despite just being you, it's so overwhelming and powerful, fighting it seems impossible, it's a long drawn out fight and in the end you still didn't completely win. I'm not even sure I have depression or such to relate but the story of omori and how it showed it made me finally cry again.
i think omori/sunny is somewhat relatable to everyone because of how all of us has done mistakes that none of us meant to do. Afterwards we regret it so much we can't move on at all. Omori is a great game.
Sad fact: the glitching noises in the background are actually a distorted version of Sunny and Mari's argument. You can even hear when Mari fell and Sunny yelling her name.
I finally finished this game a little while ago and I can really say that I can relate a lot to Sunny's depression and trauma and way of coping. The game really did a good job of representing depression, depersonalization, derealization and much more. This last battle brought me to tears because this is what an average day fighting dark thoughts would look like, it's hard and its extremely painful. I use dreaming and sleeping as a coping mechanism as well as keeping toys from my childhood, it helps distract from the pain even though I'm not aware of reality or feel conscious in a sense. I'm excited to explore more of the game and find out all the endings.
Not like I went through something nearly as bad as Sunny did but there are some lines on this boss fight that felt a bit too relatable. “They’ll hate you as much as you hate yourself” for example. I had to pause for a little bit because it was getting a tad too real for me. So I definitely agree, it does do an amazing job at representing what that’s even like.
