Very nice picture! I'm getting all nostalgic for the golden days, watching ABBA's Dancing Queen live on a Swedish Luxor TV (design and picture very similar to this Bush) when our King got married back in 1976. At the sweet age of 11 I was only interested in what Agnetha was doing. 😅

Wish i had a pound for every decoder ic I had to replace on those after the thermistor arced, if i remember correctly they were SL917.

Great videos! Even if you still sound like Mickey O'Neil to me, I'm slowly getting there, understanding at least half of your lingo now. 😃

Your first video was shared in a few old school tech Facebook groups. I think that's where some of the extra views and subs came from.

Had one of these set as a kid but I kept it, open frame, without the case on it. I think it had the original tripler which was in a clear plastic housing potted with silicon and could be dug out. which I did and still have the diodes and caps somewhere. Good memories seeing the pcbs again.

I have a ton of these thyristors and diodes in the same package as it. I don't know what to do with them, but I inherited them from my uncle who was a repair technician. You reckon it's worth keeping them? I have considered just getting rid of them by donating them to some old stuff nerd enthusiast, and stocking new parts instead.
Likewise, I have a lot of the old Philips BYX plastic package two lead diodes, which are all trash in comparison to modern equivalents and as such don't see any use for me in any kind of project.
Great video, great work! Thanks for sharing. I'm amused hearing your accent 'cause your voice sounds almost exactly like a friend's who used to be a jolly goof of excellent grade. Cheers!

Are you going to the retrotech show. I'd be interested in having one or two as spares also.

    Very interesting video as always.
Ive a good few of them A823 sets now myself.
Id love to see your Thorn 3500 set with the same button unit.
We had one in the house 40 years ago and ive not seeing the aame type since.
Maybe you could do a video on it.
Ive plenty of panels to swap out and test if you need also.

Very good point about the 240V typical. I suspect a lot of stuff suffers from the design assuming the supply is 230-220V.

    • @steeviebops
      @steeviebops 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Indeed. I'm in Ireland too, not too far from ojnoj, and can see from my UPS logs that the voltage hovers around 234-240V, usually on the higher side.

@@steeviebops Here in Birmingham it's normally between 239 and 247 when I measure it - normally at the higher end.

@@IrishvintageTVRadio It was my grandmas, Dad bought it for her new but she went in an old folks home in the late 70's and M&D had to clear her house out. I think she only ever watched it for 'world about us' and 'songs of praise'.

Could have used an incandescent light bulb in lieu of the thermistor…
