Ok, that dress is fierce! I love the print and it looks so chic with the pencil skirt! Love your idea about making a red full skirt to go with it! You are so fun and are such a talented sewist!
The dress is lovely. I’m still figuring out PDF patterns haven’t gotten any sewing patterns yet but the idea of having a digital copy sounds great. My pattern collection is turning into a hoard! I’ve started to purge while wondering what I was thinking 20 or more years ago.
I adore all your prints and accessories!!! I didn't realize the night and day had so many options! I have a butterick repro patterning finally started using the different options for, and I've made 5 completely different dresses out of one pattern. It's something I think we all forget makes it so much more economical to sew!
Yes I love patterns with lots of options. I think the pattern gives a number for how many ways you can rearrange it. It is truly amazing and worth the money.
Hi, I'm new to your channel and I like it so much! I watch several a day, so fun! I am a sewer, and during lock down I decided to take a pattern alteration class and one on actual tailoring. I must say that the chapter on the importance of ironing changed the level of my garments and really made a difference. I notice that you do not iron your linings pre-folded before you sew and this is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Your garments are already so lovely, just thought I'd mention it. Take care!
The dress is so pretty. Well done. So far I've mostly avoided PDF patterns. Mostly because we don't have a working printer. I did, however, fall into the rabbit hole that is vintage plus-size patterns on ebay. I now have a small trove of patterns - from slips to outerwear - from the 30's to 50's. I'm going through the early steps of transferring the patterns to my body, one pattern at a time. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Omg that’s wonderful I’m always so happy when people can get their hands on vintage plus size they can sometimes go for so much money. When I comes to pdf’s I would rather just buy them for the kids. The adult sizes take as long as making them to tape together unless you get it printed at a shop.
@@SewRena If I look at the average price I've been paying for patterns it's not really that much more than what I would pay for a modern printed one. Part of my justification is this generation of sewing Grannies we won't see again until we're all old and grey. Until then, the price on vintage patterns can only go up? If my guess at your size is correct, there are a bunch of patterns from the 1930's that are up on live-auction right now... just to put a bug in your ear. Sizes 14 and below... I don't think I'm technically up to the task of figuring out how to bring a PDF to a print shop. I'm still at techno-Luddite stage... someday... I assume it involved saving the PDF to a memory stick...
Super cute dress! It was interesting to hear about your experience with patterns and what you use the most. I totally collected a ton of patterns and there are some really cute ones I'd love to wear but they're too small. I don't mind resizing patterns, but it's really time consuming and can deter me from a project just like knowing how long a pdf pattern will take to put together.
Thank you! Omg yes sometimes the prep is a pain in the butt. One thing I used to do was prep for sewing on Sunday then start my project Monday. I can’t lie I hope I get through a lot of my pdf’s quickly so I can move on from the assembly. Technically I can send them to a print shop, but I got a new printer for Christmas a few years ago specifically for patterns.
We are iron twins! Its interesting to hear you talk about pdfs vs vintage. I end up using 95% pdfs just because I need a larger size than what is available.
They aren’t bad at all just time consuming to put together if you don’t send it to a printshop. Most pdf patterns are extremely detailed in instruction. Way more than true vintage patterns.
I print the pattern photo or the instructions and put them in a 3-ring binder. I will also keep smaller patterns in the binder and hang the bigger ones.
Thanks. I do have longer ones in the works. This was just me easing back into long form content. I also film on my phone so I am limited when it comes to how much I can film since I don’t have a camera.
I agree vintage patterns are the best. And the red skirt will be nice with it. But us plus gals, we have to use the PDF and reproductions mostly. I am looking at trying my hand at the Halsam Method. It is a type of pattern drafting. Its been around since the 20's.
Sewrena, Do you know your almost the Perfect Housewife ,Homemaker. From the early years. I hope this is taken as a COMPLIMENT. YOU HAVE NO FLAWS LOL YOU ARE PERFECT OK ALMOST. Out of sight out of mind indeed. I go ahead and send mine to the print shop as soon as I buy them or I will forget. This came out really cute!

Beautiful dress! 😍
I want to make this dress now so badly! I like looking at Charm Patterns but had never bought any of them until after I watched this video.

@@SewRena Yeah I have access to a printer for free printing, so it seems silly to pay for it to be printed at a print shop, but it's so tempting.
We are iron twins! Its interesting to hear you talk about pdfs vs vintage. I end up using 95% pdfs just because I need a larger size than what is available.
That’s the biggest benefit to pdf’s the size range.
The pattern and dress were beautiful. It had so many options 🤯 PDF patterns scare me, I tackled a burda before them 🫣 The dress looks great on.

So cute!
The way you can grade your seam allowances ❤ mine always end up so jagged 😅 I’m so used to rotary cutters. Any tips on cutting straight?? 😂
What’s your favorite fabric for vintage dresses
Have you ever tried projecting a PDF pattern instead of printing it out? I've seen it in videos, and I'm curious.
Yes but Gertie does not offer pdf files and since most of my pdf’s were purchased a while ago most of them don’t either.
I send mine to a print shop
I need to start doing that with an online service.
