    The thick cover tips are greatly appreciated. In PA we hunt them with lights at night over fields. We are trying to put out more videos of daytime hunts and are working on the best strategy. Thanks!

    Good tips! Thanks for posting. I see from the comments that for every ten sane, rational viewers, we get to hear from one tofu eating, nonsensical wacko. I can live with that ratio. Keep up the good work!

      Tofu eating, nonsensical whacko here. Of course, I'm an animal lover. I live on a farm that has a 4 acre swamp, thus plenty of water moccasin, rattle snakes, copperheads, and so on. Feral cats ran my barn cats off. I miss the ones who are gone, but I sure do appreciate the feral cats because I haven't seen any snakes in the immediate area in 3 years. But every summer around this time when the feral cats have babies, the coyotes take over. Just tonight the train went down the track. It is loud and when the coyotes are nearby, the immediately begin squealing and howling and it is LOUD. The know when I feed the cats and stand at the wood's edge, literally a foot inside the wood line and watch the kittens. Last year around this time, they at 12 babies but left all the adults. Tonight I walked over, right up to the coyote, who was not even looking at me. I was literally 3 feet from him and another one was nearby, too. I always fuss at them and they take off and run towards the swamp. Once a couple of years I saw a coyote trotting near the swamp with a huge dead snake. I love my cats and coyotes. As for the deer, there's a plenty of them and I've never seen evidence of an attack. I have seen, though, coyotes cleaning up dead stuff by the road. Often they get help trying to be nature's sanitation crew.

    Nice job, solid tips. Really appreciate the safety tips on number 8. So many how to videos never mention safety. It's so important by yourself and especially when you start adding other guns to the hunt. Never hurts to remind people to hunt safe and smart. Especially keep a eye on younger hunters with less experience because excitement and adrenaline can make you lose focus. You don't get second chances and accidents can happen fast.

      I always place the caller behind me if I'm hunting timber. The coyotes pass me on the way in to the sound. This is during shotgun hunts.
      Open fields are just the opposite. My goal is to get the coyote to present a rifle shot in front of me.

    Thank you for the tips. Killed my first coyote at age 61 using a new Verminator call. Started with hen pheasant and then cottontail. Nailed him at 202 yards with my .270. This was in north central Kansas, but I live in middle Tennessee, where I plan to resume hunting.

    1. Learn something about wildlife management.
    2. If you don't hunt, or don't want to hunt, stop upsetting yourself by watching hunting videos.
    3. don't think for a second that you are going to change someone,s mind about hunting by posting a lame comment.
    4. Pound salt.

    I never said it isn't fair. I said thats not what hunting is a about. And right from wrong isn't old fashioned... that would be common sense... Hunting is great fun and gives you either meat or pelts. As long as the meat or pelt isn't wasted i don't care if its for sport. and neither does anyone else.

    I don't go varmint hunting a lot but I started trapping raccoons for my grandparents in the summer because they are tearing up their garden. They have nearly 100 acres of just woods and fields and a long creek. I wasn't too far out however when I thought about going back to the house and get a .22 just in case I saw something (this is in Ohio so not many dangerous animals here can withstand a .22) or if I got bored but I decided not to get the .22 but I did have a tomahawk for fun. I walked that creek once about a mile and a half or so when I came across a massive tree that had fallen over the creek by a tornado a few years ago. This tree was seriously MASSIVE and it was 10 above the creek bed. So I stumble through the thorns and brush until I cam on top of the log. There was 3 raccoon droppings there so I figured it was maybe one or two raccoons that hung out there. So anyway I laid down on the log and just listened to the nature around me. I was laying down for maybe 20 minutes or so and starting to dose off when I heard faint splashing in the creek to my right but I was looking left. I figures it my just be a squirrel (the creek wasn't very deep in this part) or one of the raccoon that hung out on the log. When I slowly turn around it was a COYOTE! I've never really seen a coyote except at a distance in a car and never on the property (although their tracks are everywhere and I've tried tracking them down with an AR-15 once but never found anything). The coyotes was just 5 feet from directly under the log and 10 feet down. So I did the math afterward (Pythagorean Theorem) and this coyote was was 11.18 feet away from me. I could've stuck it right between the eyes with my tomahawk (I've been throwing hawks for a long time) but I didn't want to risk it and wound this beautiful creature. I sat up and looked at it and it was still smelling up at me and took a quick glance every now and then. But when I sat up it was a little more alert of my presence and just looked at me but did not run. It just kind of paced back and fourth maybe 3 times and it made me feel uneasy. Then it walked up the bank on the left side of the log (I was on the middle-right side of the log, the left side was where the roots were pulled up and I couldn't see past them.) The coyote walked up the hill and probably walked away. Probably because I waited five minutes then got out of there pretty quick not by creek but through that thick thorns and brush (barefoot too, I go everywhere barefoot, it just feels better to me) and got out of there. I think there was something wrong with it, would you think that too?

    • @kentagion
      @kentagion 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think he had a den in the the side with the roots, and you were blocking his path, maybe investigate with shoes and a rifle and see if indeed there is a den, Yotes have a cash bounty on them in the state of Pa. you kill them and I'll meet you at the state line, we'll make a lucrative living together.

    Oh ok so the "facts" are they are defenseless? Holy crap this is a joke... Obviously you've never hunted anything or you would know that they have huge defenses, they smell and hear much better than humans, they run faster and live in packs, as a coyote hunter i KNOW how hard it is to kill them and they are not in any way shape or form defenseless. It's not even an opinion. That sir is a fact.

    went coyote huntin.set up and planned for them to come off the ridge to my left and cross this little field in front of me where i would shoot them. And well, started callin,then waited 5 minutes, called some more, then waited a few minutes and heard some brush rustling every now and then up on the ridge, and then a fox came trotting down the hill and crossed the field broadside 15 yards away from where i was and i didnt shoot cuz there arent as many around anymore, i regret it,next time i will

    Again you make it quite obvious you've never gone hunting... It's not really about playing fair with the animals. With vermins its about removing a problem and getting some pelts. With big game and waterfowl its about food and trophies. And no matter what its about great fun and heritage and the great outdoors. Something it seems you know nothing about.

    it may be better that the hunter sticks only 2 the fields some of the ones that hunt in the woods shoot at people some hunters don't see so well or don't care thy go 4 movement , an that's not good if you have small children playing in the woods , i understand if you like 2 thin down the population but using there calls ant that cheating (LOL)

    Years ago my friends and I hunted Coyote when the packs got so big that they started taking down Deer,,,we then knew they would start with Calves, Goats, etc. I don't believe the Prices on the equipment you now need to call. We just bought a tape and used our own Boombox...,not now Sad. It's all about money

    most to all people hunt for a trophy and the meat. i live in michigan and most people base their majority of meals on venison or at least try to. if they're family doesnt get a dear for the year, or have one donated to them they have to go fork out lots of money to the grocery store on meat that is generally full of treatments and unneccesary fats. plus it controls the population which otherwise would be way too overpopulated and cause more problems than good this generally goes for all species.

    When you have an electric call how long do you keep making sounds? Lets say i have a wounded rabbit call how long do i keep making the sound. Do i stop only till i see something or wait a few minutes then do it again.

    • @DogbreathCoyoteCalls
      @DogbreathCoyoteCalls 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheCONtwo There is no definite answer on how long to make a sound. Some hunters if they're using an electronic call with a distress sound just let it keep running. Some hunters start and stop the call. Both techniques seem to work about the same.Most hand callers make the sound for 30 seconds to a minute and then stop for 1 to 5 minutes and repeat. That also works. The bottom line is that there is no set proven system that is best. You will develop your own style.If you go here you can watch video demos of all my callswww.dogbreathcoyotecalls.com/dogbreath-call-demos

    I have to say I disagree about hunting in the woods a bit. Given I do hunt more in the Midwest, we don’t have vast open fields like out west, but I’ve often found coyotes love hay fields and they’ll even come out when I’m mowing hay and watching for rabbits.

    1. Do a lot of meth
    2. Use a lot of technology to make up for your lameness
    3. Choose the highest powered, semi automatic weapons
    4. Bait the coyote to come to you, so you don't have to take your fat gut to them
    5. Accept the fact that the coyote is a lot smarter than you, your father, or your children
    6. Spend a lot of time trying to outsmart a dog
    7. Imitate the coyote howling. This will make you look good at parties too
    8. Get as many friends to help as possible
