Glad to see the videos coming back. I was kinda sad when you said you were gonna stop or take a step back. I used to enjoy coffee with my friend while we talked about video games. I don’t have that anymore so watching these helps. You also made me think about my faith again without shoving it down my throat. Thanks man. Keep it up. 🙏
“Too much time on your hands” my ass. Your videos reflect the rest of the community trying to maximize the convenience and gaming experience available to busy adults in 15-30 min increments throughout the day. Appreciate ya brother ☕️
Completely agree. The Ally was a PC that could do gaming, while the Deck was a gaming console with access to the majority of Steam's library. One can replace a PC and one is an extension of your PC. Ultimately, the Steam Deck was better for the use I wanted, and I ended up returning the Ally X.
I'm glad you're back onboard with the Handheld PCs. I'm also a Switch, Steamdeck OLED owner. I also have an Xbox & PC. each has it's own perks. Also like the coffee portion of your vids.
Sold my Ally Z1 Ex and bought a SD 1TB Oled. Much prefer the SD as I don’t have alot of time to play with the kids taking up a lot of my time. I don’t like windows 11 and struggled getting everything running well on the Ally. Half hour ago I was playing FFX, was half way through a cutscene and pressed the sleep button to come up to bed. Knowing I can go downstairs in the morning and start where I left on at that cutscene is a BIG positive for me. I’m loving the console like experience over the pc experience. Yes it’s not as powerful but I’m using it to run older games and will use the ps5 for new AAA. Had the SD a couple weeks now and it’s the only thing I’ve played!
He could also dual boot between both Windows and Bazzite (SteamOS), so that way you can still play games that utilize anti-cheat software on the Windows side while also being able to play most other games on Bazzite (SteamOS) with the better hardware of the Ally X. However, Valve is also currently investing into Arch Linux for better package management and server compiling, which in turn would help Valve put out an official release of SteamOS quicker for other gaming handhelds in the market.
Genuinely thought I’m the only one facing this dilemma. Had a steam deck OLED, felt the lack of power down the line. Sold it and bought the Lenovo Legion Go. Had fun with it for two days and then Windows happened. As someone mostly played on Windows machines in the past it was frustrating to do so on a handheld. Numerous updates in different apps for drivers and etc. simply killed that pick up and play experience. The battery life on it left much to be desired. That’s when I realized I missed my Steam Deck more than I cared to admit. Two weeks later I sold my LeGo. Now the dilemma is, do I try the Ally X as everyone seems to sing high praise of OR get back to the tried and true Steam Deck.
As an owner of an Xbox series X and a SD oled, I’m definitely picking up the Rog ally x 2TB on Dec 9th I’ve been loving my SD oled since I’ve purchased it, it does struggle to play the newer triple A games.
I’ve watched so many comparisons between these two, and the fact that you can just press the power button and pick up where you left off on the deck outweighs the power difference for most ppl.
I'm not a techy, but I read an article where a guy installed Bazzite? on the Ally X and he experienced better battery life and FPS. So here's to hoping Steam OS gets to the Ally asap.
I'm glad you separated them like you did. I think the steam deck is THE BEST bang for buck handheld BUT if you're looking for high end that is the AllyX. I hate that people compare them but even worse say the deck is "better." They are in different categories. It would be like comparing a PS5 to a Nintendo switch.... No one does that because it doesn't make sense.
I have a 2TB LCD Steam Deck and a 2TB Legion Go. I use both of them for different things. I use the Deck for mainly PS2 games, which it does well due to it's lower res screen. But I prefer the Legion Go for everything else.
I just bought a fire stick 4K max for 60$ to run the big gamespass heavy hitters, works like a charm as long as you have strong internet and i can easily bring it to other locations
I recently started using steam streaming to my Steam Deck oled from my 3060ti gpu PC. It is phenomenal and can run games at 90fps on deck with very little input lag at ultra settings. That experience is making reconsider my ps5 pro preorder and instead using those funds to upgrade my pc to more beefy GPU and make the full switch to PC. Up to this point I have been primary ps5 guy
I see this video and debated between the Ally X and the Steam deck. I have an LCD steam deck but the battery for me was the biggest downside. I also have the Legion Go, is a beautiful piece of kit bit the battery is bad. I decided the Ally X because of the battery, however I am still thinking of installing Bazzite as the experience of the SteamDeck OS is something that I know I will never get anywhere else. I am hoping they soon release SteamOS for the Ally family.
Good to see you back and doing good my fellow portdaddy haha~! went for the rog ally x because I needed something that wouldnt ban my gacha games.Thinking of installing bazzite on it for the deck experience when Im not playing gacha games XD keep it up and I hope you continue to do well~!
I have bazzite installed on my ROG ally Z1E model. It is amazing. It basically feels like a steam deck 2 with all the extra performance. I still use my steam deck for lower end games.
Hmmm, I know the cost of the Ally X won't get you all the PC parts needed to have a build but $700-800ish is a good amount of money towards that goal. I know you say portable play is your preferred way to play and where you get the most utility out of PC gaming, but you can "bridge" that PS5/Portal gap faster with having an SD and desktop PC combo as opposed to a SD and Ally X combo.
In my own personal experience owning a Handheld PC like the Ally or the Legion Go it's better to go with a Gaming Laptop. The Steam Deck offers a console like experience which in my opinion is better for handheld gaming.
yeah i always say people should get a nice rig before even thinking about a gaming pc this make your purchase last longer 1 because you arent trying to run the neewest games on the steamdeck and if you get the oled version that screen will look good forever and the hardware inside should last a long ass time for jrpgs, indies, etc, that plus oled is what makes these handhelds pop for me
Hey JD! What’s your editing process like? I’m currently trying to get better quality content out and the more time I can focus on other parts the better!
Today I listen to your ADHD video. I have been thinking about what you said, I've also been praying about it. But, to me it sounds like everything that you're going through is a blessing. And I know that may sound strange, but I definitely think it's a blessing in disguise. When get excited about one thing and it begins to not be fulfilling, you jump to another thing to try to get fulfillment there. If you look to the Lord, and get your fulfillment in him, just inviting him in to share the day with you, he will completely fill you up and you won't feel the need to jump from one thing to the next. What's even cooler is, he's not asking you to get rid of all these things that excite you, he just wants you to invite him in so you can share this with him. Then all these things that you get excited about no longer become dull, but they stay exciting and awesome, especially when you get to share it with Jesus. I just really wanted to share this with you. Hope you find this message well.
I’ve considered getting the RoG X down the line cause I’m noticing myself I can’t play certain games on the SD. Like I wanna play Star Wars Battlefront 2 but it requires the EA launcher and when it does boot up it crashes instantly.
He had the z1e turned it in and now the X and turned that in. I’m starting to see those who want a pc, want as little to pc tinkering. Which is weird to say I want to be a pc gamer
I only enjoy games from 7th gen below these days so to me the Steamdeck is high end lol Dead Space 2 on the oled is something different and I didn't understand the leap pc gamers had over console gamers in that era until recently.
At this point the "it's windows 11, it's hard" grip is bs. I own both steam deck lcd and oled, an ROG allyx and a legion go as well as a host of other windows devices and i've probably had more issues fighting the OS with my steam deck than I have with windows. My steam deck is more conviently because I can treat that just like a switch. Leave it on and pause in a middle of a game. But i've had enough issues with games that have little bugs in them just because they don't work with proton. They do eventually fix most of them but that could take up to months to resolve. Whereas with the windows devices everything just works straight out the box. If there's an issue with the game it usually something that's universal to all PC gamers. It also doesn't have an issue with pre game launcher like SD has. I love both and hell i play on my steam deck more. If the steam deck and ROG allyx had the same chipset I'd take Steam Deck over it all the time. But the 'It's windows waaah!!' BS needs to end. SteamOS is better but not by much...especially with all the other tradeoffs you have to deal with.
The steam deck is going to cost a fortune in storage if you are a serious gamer. It was made to placate casual gamers or gamers that would be considered at least casual to the pc world. The idea is a console owner buys this & they don’t even own any pc games. But if you are a more serious gamer/collector. If you own a 100 games (I own more) then the storage options are crap. Micro SD combined with only 1 port. This is bad. Very bad. 512 gb of micro SD storage could cost you $50 I could personally fill a 6 tb hdd. You do the math on that. & who wants to card switch between a bunch of cards that might have 8-12 games a piece? It’s made for someone who has no games & a 1tb hdd is plenty of space for them.

Im still playing my PS Vita in 2024 .
fits in my pocket perfectly, I love that little system .
I know, wrong channel 😉
Nah that thing still rules even today. The Vita is extremely underrated 🫡

Steam Deck is dope
You should try putting bazzite os on your ally x

I just did that with my Ally x after 4 days of non use
@@jdxcoffee nice, maybe it’s a new feature.

Good to see you back homie. Glad you’re making these again
So crazy I never had a problem with windows, I boot up in AC and get the gaming.
Welcome back to the deck dude! Deck Dudes... hmmm
oooh love it

JD! Do you have any videos with your honest opinion about the Playstation Portal?
Did you notice the difference in screen size with the Deck OLED being slightly bigger?
When you say repurchase ? Have you rebought the steam deck oled recently - never knew you sold it off your last videos before stopping .
why tf i like watching this guy yap
You jabaited us. U really didn’t sell ur steam deck,I know it. You just took a break ;)
He didnt have the 1tb model before tho

The steam deck is going to cost a fortune in storage if you are a serious gamer. It was made to placate casual gamers or gamers that would be considered at least casual to the pc world.
