I went to single dosing and found that my coffee significantly improved. I found that with my former grinder when I cleaned it I always found old coffee stuck in it. Moving to a single dosing grinder significantly reduced that build up.
Hey chip, Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Curious what grinder you were using before and what SD grinder you're using now?
Marc
As always, I'm loving your work Mark.
Hey pg, Thanks a bunch for the comment!
Marc
I like to change coffees and brew methods regularly, my morning milk drinks is different from my mid-morning V-60 and my afternoon espresso or americano. I also appreciate the precision of just weighing the beans upfront and just work with that. No waste and always keep the beans stored away from oxigen. But to each its own. Thanks for the great content! I look forward to those Varia videos and how they've addressed reliability on the VS3.
Hi c, Thanks for sharing your thoughts/experience and you're welcome for the content!
Marc
I just single dose with my baratza instead of filling the hopper
Great video, appreciated !
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment!!!
Marc
Nice over view!!! Just cannot deal with the Eureka grind settings. SUCKs even after doing the sinlge dose upgrade.....when changing beans for settings...etc.. you cant get back to a previous setting, I would highly avoid folks to avoid it. Ihave had mine and while they are solid builds, even when unscrew cleaning the top is not always consistant when opening to clean either. Its why I a here and looking to upgrade.
***One thing I dont hear reviews cover, and this should include channels that also sell products is the adjustment pitch. The Eureka knob sucks, as a tiny bit off and its a large adjustment, so the precision of the grind size from the amount you turn should be a MAJOR part of a grinder feature/specification highlight.
Hi p, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I understand the comments on the grind size adjustment with the very small knob on the Eurekas - a lot different than the Ceado with big adjustment collars. That said, I've never had an issue dialing in on the Eurekas.
On the pitch... We now have a particle analyzer and have started to provide numbers in some grinder reviews has to how much median particle size changes for a given adjustment change. One manufacturer we are working with now does provide a number for microns the burrs move between each mark on the adjustment.
Marc
@@Wholelattelovepage Lucky you on the adjustment. I get different settings if the grinder is off vs on, so its hard to know. Its almost as if its hardly adjusting when off, and adjusting very fast when on. The Eureka drives me nuts...but thats also due to me liking to try different beans. I am done with it, and will be looking out for your grinder videos with the burrs mircon movement...Please link me up if you guys covered that!
Made my ecm titan a single dose grinder.
Works like a dream.
Hey tp, please tell me/us more! Did you remove the clumping control screen?
Marc
@Wholelattelovepage removed the clumping screen and put a eureka blowup hopper on it.
Fits over the throat of grinder rather than inside and I used a bit of tape for a gasket.
Made a stand for my single dose cup and got nice half inch brush.
I'm telling you it's excellent.
@@toddpower4674 That's awesome! I love the retro look of the Titan grinder. I did a video on it ~7 years ago. The Titan's styling reminds of a 1960's Waring blender I inherited from my grandmother. It's about 60 years old now and still making milkshakes!
Marc
@@Wholelattelovepage that video is why I bought it.
I always watch and love your videos
Tremendous explanation Marc - thank you! As for the static issue - and this has likely been tried - could that be remedied with a single strand of lamp wire grounding the machine to a metal table leg or similar?
Hi D, Thanks for the comment and question. I have not tried that - maybe? A few newer grinders have an "ion generator" which claims to help control static. I've had best success controling static using RDT. For me, static is typically only a problem in low humidity conditions or in a brand new grinder with no oil coating from the beans. Some years ago when using brand new Baratza Sette grinders I always had static issues. They grind very fast with an outer burr spinning and a static inner cone. A little spritz of the beans in the hopper and a stir with finger and no more static.
Marc
Eureka zero all the way. I got it from you guys along with the Gaggia. Going strong and grinds back to back 20 g espressos no problem. Grinds super fast. Less than 10 seconds. Looks great and waaay more price efficient than the Ceado. Paired it with the Gaggia. Maybe I’ll get the ceado or oro when I upgrade to one of those dual boilers you got. Thanks!
Hi m, Thanks for the report and your patronage! If not single dosing, the weight based Zero is a favorite of mine!
Marc
How do you go from 1 coffee type to another and back...in espresso grinding without making a bunch of adjustment shots wasting coffee until you are dialed in?
@@philindeblanc The short answer is you don't - unless really lucky. Adjusting grind size when a variable changes like coffee type, dose weight, etc is a given. You might also change grind size to change the flavor. I often say: "grind size is not set and forget". I also advise people taste espresso even when they know a shot could be better. As you compare flavor of bad and good shots you're not wasting coffee but using it to learn.
I'm a single dose person, my coffe consistency is better when I narrow to just one.
Hey richard, Thanks for sharing - it's appreciated!
Marc
Hello Marc. Could you please review the Ceado E37Z-Barista? Ther is not a single review that is thorough and comprehensive about that grinder
Hi P, Thanks for the request! We have a lot of videos in the cue but will see what I can do. In the meantime, we have a free service called CoffeeCast. It's a free one on one video call product demo with a product expert. We do have the E37Z-Barista available for CoffeeCast. Only requirement is you are located in the US for that particular product. If interested here's the link to book a CoffeeCast: www.wholelattelove.com/pages/coffeecast
Hope that helps!
Marc
this is pampering - so far there is nothing better than scales built into coffee grinder ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hi K, thanks for sharing your thoughts. If doing lots of back to back brews or one is not adverse to purging a bit of coffee for a totally fresh grind then I do appreciate grinders with automatic dosing by weight. One of my faves is the Eureka Mignon Libra: www.wholelattelove.com/collections/espresso-grinders/products/mignon-libra-weight-based-espresso-grinder-in-ferrari-red

Bro what decade is it? Single dosing has been the status quo for years.
Actually, not that long ago. It started in 2015-2016 but really becoming the standard only in 2021-2022, as you starting to see a lot of single dose grinders in expos and coffee events.
Hey SS, Back about 12 years ago hopper fed Mazzers with ground coffee slap lever operated dosers were very common. I'm with @wenderis on SD use really picking up in current decade.
