I didn't get much time to play during the spear beta but my initial thoughts are that it seems to play well with tempest. I could see spear being better against hyper mobile groups or for users who struggle with meteor shower placement. Ultimately I believe staff will remain king for catalyst, the amount of modifiers combined with double meteor shower is too insane.
