- Hi Nail Friends! I'm a DIY at home acrylic dip powder user. I am not a professional, just having fun and saving $ by doing my own dip powder manis! My new favorite way to apply dip powder is over a Builder Gel overlay to protect my natural nails. I love getting a little bit fancy pants and making long extensions too! Watch to see how I create nail extensions that are strong and feel like my natural nails. Don't forget that Gel products require a UV/LED nail lamp, 48 Watt and higher is recommended.

I used to be a dip powder user & transitioned to builder gel. I used dip powder over gel 1 time & then just switched completely over to builder gel. Much less messy& easier to get a better cuticle line. There are so many builder gels out there with gorgeous colors. You can polish with gel polish over them to change color & remove later. Builder gel seems to last & stick much better than dip too. Just don’t see a need for dip powder anymore. I’m a DIYer too & found the builder gels are superior to dip powder. BTW I love your shape!

Hey there. Sure have missed your videos but know your super busy with family and work etc. but did have a question just in case you happen to see this. How long can you actually leave builder gel on?? I have been doing fills off and on but just was not sure if you can leave it on longer than 4-6 weeks or not.

I personally wear mine for months and just do fills. I'm not a professional, but I believe as long as there is not any lifting or moisture in between your natural nail and the BG it should be fine to keep it intact and just do fills! If the integrity of the BG doesn't seem right then definitely remove and start fresh, it's not worth getting a greenie or anything like that.
These look beautiful! How long does that last and can you soak it off? Also do you ever get lifting near the cuticle with it?
Thank you! I keep it on and when I remove the dip if there’s any lifting I just file that spot and then fill it in as it grows out. If you want to soak off, file as much as possible off or it will take a million years to soak! 🤣
If you are having lifting issues, a lot of friends swear that Young Nails Protein Bond helps a bunch!

Mine isn’t available anymore, but it’s a 50W lamp. Definitely get a lamp 48W or higher. They are pretty inexpensive on Amazon if you keep an eye out. Or check for a coupon on Vipon.com and grab one with a coupon. I got mine on Amazon for only $15 with a Vipon coupon.
I know nothing about dip powder. Old skool girl here....could you just paint over them with normal nail polish? & would that last longer than natural nails? Would the builder gel dissolve when I removed the nail polish? Thanks in advance :)

Do you do top coat over the builder gel? Do you go after the peel base for dip?
Hi! Thank you for watching! The top coat is optional, I prefer to skip top coat and just wear buffed. Then I apply peel base before I dip and the dip pops off easy.
Where do you get your wiping pads? I like their thickness.

Thank you for watching! 😍 I use UNT peel base and then apply dip. I change my colors often, so it’s good if you only want to wear a mani for a few days.

@Meg Knauf I wear mine about 2-4 days usually. But the wear time is unique to everyone based on your body chemistry and activities. It’s definitely an experiment to find how much to apply and how it works for you.

I've been waiting and waiting for my damaged nails from efile and my own mistakes with dipping to grow enough so I can test gel base and builder gel and use as base for dipping. I did 1 nail with base last night took off inhibition layer and waited to see if i am allergic to triple d base. No reaction...so i tried another nail with base and builder gel. I was so nervous but trusted the steps and I did it! So far no allergic reaction. Questions...i am going very slow. After filing and buffing I can leave overnight for doing dipping? Last question...i have 1 layer of gel base for my allergy test. Do I have to remove that and start over or should I file it and apply another layer of base then builder gel?

Hi Sandy! I’m excited you are trying builder gel! I’ve definitely just done the builder gel process, buffed/shaped, and left them plain for a few days. The builder gel keeps me from breaking a nail when I don’t have time to dip right away.
For the base gel tester nail, I would probably buff it off and start with a fresh coat to apply the builder gel on top, just in case. 💕💓💕

@@CorgisWineAndNails it worked. For last 1.3 it only happened one. With base gel it happened more with nail with most damage...still needs to grow about 1/4 more, but I worked through it.
Have you tried the orly fxgel builder in a bottle ?
I haven’t, but I just got the Triple D builder gel in a bottle and I’m debating on chopping a nail to try it out! 😂
When you soak off the dip powder does the acetone affect the builder gel?
I don’t soak, I use a peel base before I dip and then pop it off, but acetone will soak off the builder gel. It just takes longer than dip unless you file down.
I just did some tips with poly gel, what is the difference between this and poly gel?
How many coats of peel base do you use on top of your builder gel?
I do one full coat of UNT and it lasts 2-4 days if I don’t intentionally pop them off. 😊

Is builder gel the same as polygel?
No, they are different products but essentially do the same thing, you can create extensions with both.
Do you have any recommendations for people with oily nail beds?
I hear a lot of ladies say a dehydrator liquid helps as their first step for the dip stay longer on oily nail beds.

So confused where does the dip powder come into play?. I didn't see any dip powder application along with the gel
Sorry for the confusion, this is how I apply builder gel that I wear under my dip powder. You dip over the builder gel when you are done. The dip powder steps are the regular application process.

Do you mean like forms for polygel? If so, they are different products so I don’t think so, but I’m not sure.
