Great video! But I have a couple of pointers if that's okay 🙈 you should never clean your nail brushes with alcohol because it will dry out the bristles and they'll eventually become frayed and really hard to work with, you just clean them with clear gel, wipe off the excess and shape the bristles in to shape again and then put on the cap 😊 and the second thing is that you don't need base coat on top of the gel if you need to put on some more gel. You only need base coat for the natural nail. You can apply base coat if you want of course but you really don't need it, it's only for bonding the builder gel to your natural nails. And a really great tip is to apply a slip layer of builder gel and then apply the gel as normal, it will help the gel to guide it where it needs to go 😊other than that I love your video! 💅🏼🌸❤
@Carla Vazquez-Morales Yes it's great to clean out color gels with clear gel, it also helps to prolong the life of the brush so that it lasts as long as possible. And also, it helps maintaining the shape of the brush while keeping it moisturized at the same time so that it doesn't dry out 🙂 If you would want to clean the brush with gel: You just take a little bit of clear gel of your choice on a palette or a piece of backing paper from sculpting forms (base coat, builder gel or whatever you want to use, but preferably not top coat as it would interfere witn adhesion if it's left in the brush), drag your brush through the gel a couple times until you see the color come out out of the top side of the brush, wipe it clean with a clean lint free wipe by pinching the brush in-between the wipe. Repeat the process until you can't see any more color coming out of the bristles, it usually takes 2-3 times depending on what color you have used. When you're done (if you're not going to use it again at this time and you want to put it away) - Condition the brush with some more clear gel (run the brush through a little bit of clear gel again) and then carefully wipe off the excess gel with a clean wipe (but not all of it, leave a little bit of gel in the brush to keep it moisturized) Does all of that make sense? Sometimes it gets soo long when I explain things 🙈😂 I hope my description helps anyway, let me know if something is unclear or anything! 😊
I love love love your videos and been watching them for two days trying to learn new tricks for doing my nails. Since I am still a novice, I have a couple questions: 1. Gel base and top coat is the same thing among the different brands, right? (E.g., I have the gelish brand). 2. The steps for your gel builder and gel color or dip color are: A. Gel base, cure, builder, cure, builder, cure, file and shape, gel top coat and cure. B. Gel colors (on top): peel off base (strip in middle), gel color, cure, gel color, cure and top coat (again?), cur C. Dip: peel off base, powder base, dip, powder base, dip, activator, file/buff, activator, then the dip gel top coat (no cure) or reg gel top coat (and cure) Lawd have mercy, please tell me I’ve got it all down. 😂
Sorry for the slow reply, it's been a long week over here. :-) 1. Yes, gel base and top are universal. Gelish should do just fine for you. 2a. Yes, except for one thing. After I file/shape my builder gel I use gel base again before top coat... then I never get peeling of my top coat. 2b. Peel base I apply in a full coat if I want to peel it off (if I'm soaking off down to my natural nail then I do not do a full coat), so over builder gel I do a full coat because I know my natural nail is safe in the event of an untimely pop-off. :-) And yes, those steps are correct, including gel top. If you are using gel color you'll always finish with top coat. 2c. YES! Correct. You've got the steps girl, and I know it seems complicated but before you know it you'll be able to do it without even thinking!
@@KatesNailKorner No worries!! Thank you for taking the time to reply!! I’ve done my second dip in a week and I have to say, I’m completely addicted! I can’t wait to try new things. Thank you for your vid tutorials ☺️
Thank you SOOOOO much Kate!!! I actually did myTriple D builder on all my nails last night....but today, I will take your advice and do gel base/top before my UNT. I have been having lifting on my builder when I try to pop off. You are the best!!!! Gabrielle
Kate’s Nail Korner It definitely helped…they started popping off two days later LOL and I was able to take the rest of them off very quickly! I think in the future I’ll just try one layer of UNT On top of the gel topcoat so they don’t pop so quickly. Thank you so much for this amazing tip!
gablofaso haha! For sure. Even with one coat sometimes I pop peelies quicker than anticipated. lol. It makes me chuckle when I don’t know where I lost it and I imagine the reaction of the person who finds it.
Thank you so much for this very detailed video. I love when I come across a really good builder gel video and if possible, could you do a video where you show how to do a fill using builder gel? Also, I was wondering about the base/top coat you use at the end. I understand why you use it that way because of the peel base...I've seen Marla talk about it before. My question is if I want my dip powder to last longer over the peel base....like at least a week because I would do peel base not to have the dip come off sooner, but so that it's easier to take off after let say a week or so. I hope that makes sense. So, do I still use the base/top coat because I don't want the builder gel affected when I remove the dip and maybe just use a single stroke of the peel base down the middle of the nail and still use the base/top coat....because if I don't have the peel base on the edges of my nails but just down the center, it should allow the dip powder to stay because it's sealed on the edges. Wow, that sounds redundant...LOL!! Anyway, hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say. Thanks again!!
I haven’t tried it yet- I’m waiting for my peel base to be delivered. But I saw a comment saying they would put a small square of the peel base in the center of the nail and it would last a week. I hate soaking off my nails it takes forever for me so I do my nails every 2 weeks. If it wasn’t for the soaking is do it at least once a week.
I get it, totally. I think what I would try is doing the base and top, applying peel base on the majority of the nail (with a margin around your side walls and cuticle line) and make sure you cap your free edge well with your dip top or gel top. I’d start that way and see how it holds and adjust as needed. If I don’t mess with my nails (like filing the free edge or breaking the seal around the cuticle with a file) then they hold pretty well until I try to pop them off. When you are ready to remove them I’d file the free edge and gently around the cuticle and start wiggling them to see if they pop loose.
Thanks Kate, this is so helpful! I’ve really been thinking about trying builder gel. But I would want the mani to last like 2 weeks, so I probably wouldn’t use peel base at all and just file off down to the builder gel. Should I still do base and topcoat over the builder gel in that case or just dip over the matte builder gel?
I think you could go either way and it wouldn’t change the longevity. If you file down the shiny top coat may make it easy to know when you’ve hit builder gel, but that would just be a preference thing... you should be totally fine without it.
This builder gel can soak off, however I use peel base so I can pop off my mani and not lose my builder gel. You can also file off your color instead. I haven’t tried it but if you too coat your builder gel there is a chance you could soak off your dip and keep your gel in tact because gel top is so resistant to acetone... but I’m not sure it wouldn’t be damaged.
With peel base it allows me to dip over top, but easily remove my dip powder for my next mani. Without peel base you'd need to efile the dip powder off, down to the builder gel, to dip again. (if you were to soak in acetone it would compromise your builder gel).
Sold! I want to try builder gel now 😅 I love coffin shape nails but I have issues under the corners can be super sharp and hurt! Have you had that issue with and/or without BG?
I too love the coffin shape, I don't find them too sharp. They are sharper when I don't have dip on and I find I easily scratch myself or my kids... but dip kind of makes for a smoother edge I think. Does that make sense?
How easy is this builder gel to remove. I also tried a builder gel in a bottle and the removal was horrible and took an hour 🤦🏼♀️. Looking into triple D. Are you curing the gel base and the gel top coat separately after the builder gel application?
Yes. I cure each separately, base 30 seconds, top 60 seconds. Builder gel is a pain to remove. You want to file it really thin and then soak in acetone. I have found another product I like for removal and will try to produce a video soon. ☺️
Is this process the same as how you would do it after gluing on tips? How many coats and which brand of peel base do you use? If and when you do encounter resistance when trying to peel off a mani and your builder gel starts to lift or separate from your natural nail, what would you do? Do you have a video on filling in your builder gel? How many times can you fill before needing to remove completely? Is there a trick to removal? I tried builder gel twice, the first time with peel base and the second time without. I guess the first time I didn't use enough peel base because the dip absolutely would not peel off and I ended up ripping off my builder gel. It hurt and I think it damaged my nails. When I got brave enough to try again, I forgot the peel base 😩 so when it came time to remove my mani, I tried my usual hot acetone soak and it took forever to remove the builder gel - so long that my natural nails ended up curling and breaking and I had to use an e-file to remove the rest of the builder gel residue. Sorry for all the questions - follow you on IG and always love your nails. I have a huge dip collection so I am really hoping I can find and perfect a technique that works because I'm in too deep to give up now 😂
Thanks for this vid! If I chose to use a protein bond though, do I apply a layer to my natural nail as well as between the gel base and builder gel? Or is the protein bond ONLY supposed to go on the natural nail?
Sorry for the delay! Builder gel needs gel base under it to adhere to the nail well. You can use any brand gel base if you don’t have the triple d base gel on your order.
Do you have a specific product in mine? I have used their gel base/top and their dip sets. I recently used their dips in a video (the mani is green/silver) if you want to look for it and hear my thoughts there.
