Not only did Ryan have better writing at the time, but he was effortlessly natural and suited Sonic's true character more than any English take before it since
People always meme on the voice acting in this game but the thing not a lot of people know about is that the studio where everyone recorded their lines had no air conditioning so it was really hot, they were all directed by people who didn’t speak English that well, and they had about a week or two to get it all done. Voice acting is already an incredibly hard job to do so throwing all of that nonsense into the mix must’ve made it a complete nightmare so taking all of that into account I think they did a pretty good job considering the complications.
Not to mention, there was no context whatsoever. Ryan, in a interview from a fan, recalls that the auditions themself consisted of just looking at a image of the character and giving off a voice. They also had to determine the delivery of the lines based on the cutscences alone.

These voices should be in more Sonic Rom hacks. I've heard them in only three Rom hacks. Sonic Back in Time, Sonic The Hedgehog Harder Levels, and Sonic Rocket.
If I were in charge of a theatrical Sonic movie BETTER THAN THE UPCOMING HOLLYWOOD GARBAGE, I'd definitely cast Ryan Drummond as the voice of Sonic, and Marc Biagi (who voiced Professor Gerald & Vector) as the voice of Eggman. And my ideal Sonic movie would be an adaptation of the Archie Comics. And it would tell the blue blur's backstory.

8:31 8:34 I miss Ryan Drummond as Sonic. He was the most emotional Sonic of all.
People always meme on the voice acting in this game but the thing not a lot of people know about is that the studio where everyone recorded their lines had no air conditioning so it was really hot, they were all directed by people who didn’t speak English that well, and they had about a week or two to get it all done. Voice acting is already an incredibly hard job to do so throwing all of that nonsense into the mix must’ve made it a complete nightmare so taking all of that into account I think they did a pretty good job considering the complications.
Not to mention, there was no context whatsoever. Ryan, in a interview from a fan, recalls that the auditions themself consisted of just looking at a image of the character and giving off a voice. They also had to determine the delivery of the lines based on the cutscences alone.
