WOW! I did Pearl 4 years ago in a 1980 CJ5. Winched myself out of the same hole and hit the right step the same way. Next time I'm gonna fill the hole with rocks first. Very entertaining video. Thanks
Nice! You mentioned a few that I definitely want to do now. Cara was throwing some shade at the start, but she made up for it with the drone compliments 😂
We absolutely love the San Juan Mountains out in the Ouray Area! Levi has a huge thing for Silverton with the mining history. However, we can't wait to see other parts of Colorado. We were out in Summit County last year, did Mosquito Pass & Wheeler Lake. Colorado is so beautiful!!
The wife and I definitely want to go explore the flat top area. Have to agree that Scofield is in our top 5 also. Finishing in Marble to get some BBQ and smoked cheesecake made great end to an awesome day.
Some years ago I did a few of the trails in Colorado and wanted to do Black Bear but knew it was highly ill advised with a stock half ton extended cab chev which has very unimpressive clearance and a horrible turning radius and making some of those switchbacks would have been next to impossible. Of the 5 you listed I was on Taylor but starting from the Aspen side and in the dark which was not intended but will say when you can't see the trail edge beside you its unsettling, next morning went down the other side and picture a low truck with full running boards in the boulder section, it was a challenge with such a unit and the water was rushing pretty good at the entrance to the trail/stream and not a lot of room to make that turn with the rock walls/large boulder and no one to assist if I did get into any issues and no winch either. I talked to someone at the campground just before the taylor side of the trail and he couldn't believe it when he walked around my pickup and saw no damage at all. I had done Imogene, various other ones out of Animas Forks, one that struck me as unique from others is Mt Antero due to the altitude and height above the landscape.
As soon as I saw the Blair Drone footage I thought "wait, we've been there!". I completely forgot it was part of our Meeker trip. We live Taylor Park but gave never done this run to Aspen. We'll have to add that to our list to do. Great vid.
Hi Matt and Cara, thank you for sharing some over favorite adventures in Colorado. I hope you and the OOA Family have a very Merry Christmas or Happy Holiday Season. 🌲 😊
Definitely put Mt. Antero on your list. It has amazing camping on the trail near creeks and goes to 13,850 feet. The views are awesome its definitely a good one and lots of great trails in that area and Princeton hot springs down the road.
Sorta like choosing your favorite kid...but having done each of these trails multiple times I'd say your list is spot on with mine. I'd give honorable mention to Mt. Antero and Cinnamon Pass because of the American Basin spur.
I would like to see the view from the top of Engineer - Every time I have done all I see is the big raindrops coming out of the bottom of the really big dark cloud 🤣🤣
We would love to check out some of the trails on your list some day,but with a full size long bed what trails are too tight?we don’t want any body damage 😎
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures JKU Rubicon is a very capable of the box (Auto transmission, sway bar disconnect, front and rear lockers, solid axels, big tyres, good gear ratio, winch, quality suspension lift kit etc..) @@laloolhouvum1634 I wouldn't call my JKU with 2.5" lift and 35s highly modified. LOL. I've done much harder badge trails in my Gladiator that I would never take my JKU on. Can someone assist me with a specific trail/trailhead name for the Flat Tops route shown in this video? There was mention of it being part of the enchanted rockies trail, but I've checked multiple map sources for that trail and nothing comes close to Glenwood Springs and the flat top area (it's all much further east by Silverthorne). I was planning to head into the flat top area in July and setup camp for a day or two, but according to AllTrails there are no off roud trails through that area. Hoping someone can tell me that alltrails is wrong! :) TIA
NVM..just relistened and caught that it was Transfer Trail. Still interested in a version of the enchanted rockies route that includes this area. Anyone have a good source for the .gpx?
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thanks, and thanks for this video! I've reference it several times, and was intrigued to see Pearl as your favorite since it was actually the only trail in your list that I've done! (Which, if anyone is wondering, a Rivian can clear that route with relative ease) Thankfully it's hard for Colorado to disappoint. Looking forward to the adventures ahead.
Devil's Punchbowl is the name of the waterfall on the trail. It's not the name of the trail although some call it that. The actual trail name is Schofield Pass.
th-cam.com/video/fjvJ7oN6P68/w-d-xo.html Matt & Cara, since you both like Taylor Pass, Pearl Pass and Schofield Pass, I'd recommend Italian Creek and Upper Reno Divide to American Flag Mountain. Cara will enjoy the "technical" part of Upper Reno Divide. 37" tires or larger recommended.
Uhhh...just like everyone putting out end of year videos now it's everyone doing top 5 Colorado trail videos? Is there some kind of secret 'overlanding' society meetings that dictate what's to be uploaded? 😳
To my knowledge only two of us have done a top 5 colorado video. But yes there is a secret overlanding society meeting where we discuss these things. 😂 If anyone else has released a top 5 Colorado video other than me and Rob they did not have approval from the Overlanding Society. 😂😂
Check out Ellwood Pass on East Fork road outside Pagosa Springs Co. There is a staging area at the bottom, East Fork Campground right at the start, and tons of dispersed camping along E Fork road two-six miles from the parking area. After you traverse Ellwood, head into the mining town of Platoro and get burgers and beer. 🥸

Do you guys have a video of your Flat Tops trip on Transfer Trail, up to the lakes? I'd love to watch that!
Awesome video. (New Sub). Colorado ROCKS.
My favorite technical trail in Colorado is Chinaman Gulch. I always made sure to get that one in every season.
I need to run that one!

Once again I’m going to recommend Blanca. There is great camping at the lake near the top.
Love it here
Engineer Pass is one of my favorite.

Matt, I’m going to use a clip from this in my Holy Cross Trail Guide filmed with a stock 2 door Rubicon 😂
Lol. Go for it. I would love to drive it in a 2dr Rubicon.
Matt, thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thank you. How can I find the routes you took for your #5 Flat Tops route?

Cool video's. Next time your in Colorado try Mt. Blanca near alamosa and chinaman gultch near buena vista. I can give more details if your interested.

when did you do pearl pass so i can kinda get a rough time frame of when it would be open?
Can you recommend Colorado trails my Ram 4x4 Ram pickup truck could go? I dont think my truck can handle trversing the big rock and boulders?
Everything around Ouray, CO except the wall on Poughkeepsie. But you can still do Poughkeepsie just take the bypass.
I love how these trails look, do you think I could hit most of them on a week trip?
It's doable with some longer highway miles between trails.
hey im trying to look were i can go easy off road and camping for my son
There are winch anchors on all the obstacles on holy cross.
Not when we ran it.
It may have been last year they were added, because they were not there the first time I ran it either.
Don’t know if you’ve ever heard of redcone? It’s a good fun trail
Yep just haven’t run it yet.
Are sxs allowed in schofield pass ?
Great video guess. Question, can or do people ride 4 wheelers on these trails?
on some of them, yes.
Were there many mosquitoes while camping around Flat Tops?
Not while we were there.
Any of your top five that you would or could take the Conqueror ?
I’d pull the Conqueror all over the Flat Tops. Probably will one day.
Are you still going here summer of 2024? I would like to tag along if at all possible!
We will be in colorado at some point I'm just not exactly sure where and when yet.
That would be great, I am native to Colorado and would love to show you or tell you about some of my favorite trails you guys could hit!
Colorado. Beautifully dangerous 🤠🤠
What are the tires on the blue jeep
Milestar Patagonia MT02s
Since you did most of the Jeep badge of honour trails in your JK. It means it has to stay with the JK?
Mine stayed with my JK because I didn’t want to deal with taking them off. Lol. But I think the driver earns the badge, not the Jeep.
