Latest point is just before overload because venting is shorter than that. But you should actually vent as soon as your flux gets close max. Especially when you are alone with the enemy. Wait for them shooting their strongest weapon and then vent and hope that venting is faster than the enemy cooldown.
Imagine Seeing glowing carts dropping a single Donut in front of your entire armada, raising laughter, fear and silence as everyone question dropping a single unescorted battleship...
You use the fortress shield, absorb in coming fire from the invictus(s), while incoming missiles are on their way from smaller ships, vent , then because you have quick shield equipped....absorb the missiles with your normal shield. rinse and repeat. You make it look easy :|
Nice play there! You had a close one mid battle. I'm surprised the AI Invictus played so defensive while the other ships swarmed you. If the Invictus had stayed on you while the other ships attacked, I think that would have been very difficult for you.
Actually the Invictus have been offensive. I was just backing up constantly and the other ships have been faster. I could have waited for them to close in to allow all to shoot at me at once. But this tactic would have required me to actually want my paragon to explode.
@@Kohlenstoffkarbid Is your Paragon that much faster than the Invictus? It appears to me there were a few times that they were backing up (around 4:20 for instance). Also, when I watch you chase them, they appear to go the same speed as you. So, that would mean they are constantly moving up and then backing up as well. I see the AI do this fairly often. It works fine for small ships but it hampers their capitals effectiveness especially in a situation like this.
For someone who's just started Starsector and got their hands on a Paragon but no where near experienced/confident enough to take on [redacted] for Omega weapons. What weapons & mod set up would you recommend?
Since you are beginner i suggest to use a fleet of mixed cruisers. Preferably with omni shields and a mix of anti shield and anti armor weapons. You will only see during the battles, which of your ships do damage and survive longer and which ones do not do much damage or get disabled. Since every omega battle is different a mix works best. Especially for beginners who do this first. Give your ships maximum flux dissipation!!!
@Kohlenstoffkarbid Thank you for the tip! I've notice I tend to gravitate towards High-tech line of ships, so I keep telling myself to add more mid-lines to deal with shields and armor
@@pk4mybro011 And keep an eye on setup. One extra suggestion: Locust missiles don't look good on paper and don't look as impactful as reapers but they help closing weak spots.
Yes, i like to have many Ox around. Makes travelling safer. Disadvantage is limited range and high cost so its only viable for late game fleets with solid income from colonies.
Probably missing elements: 1. Fortress shield works the best with high soft flux. It's main purpose is conversion of soft flux into hard flux, which makes your shield flux capacity x2. 2. Intemittent venting is good with a omni shield, when you can start focusing it in proper direction. In other words, venting in front of some capital is possible. However, you need to be able to do 2 things - a) starting the shield in front of incoming bullets valley, b) faster shield turn speed. I dont see this tecnhique application in this video. 3. Advanced turret gyros could have probably sped up plasma cannons. This would have shattered small ships into oblivion much faster. 4. Fomr my experience, I prefer autoblasters over plasma cannons due to DPS and bursts reasons. They have lower flux, deliver faster punch, and better for targeting small ships. 5. HI laser work much better against armour which Invictus has a ton. Generally, HI laser are very good to erase lowtech ships from afar. 6. The overall paragon composition is made the way that it needs to have shorts fights. The overall flux consumption is extremely high which makes this kind of battles quite hard. I like playing `forlorn hope`, as it teaches very many elements like this. This mission is impossible to beat 9/10 times (yes, I beat it soemtimes), but surviving the most amount of time is what makes its very good.
Your tactics seem to be quite opposite to mine. 1) Beside regaining flux i use fortress shield to catch major influx while waiting for cooldown of the torpedoes. There is no need to shoot the weaker weapons at these times because.... invictus. 2) Look at my shield speed. I have front shield to have faster shields. Having fast shield makes it unneccesary to focus on omni shield direction. I can survive situations where im fully surrounded and got more focus on where the weapons have to shoot at. 3.) Torpedoes and missiles are for that. Plasma is DPS for cooldown time of these. Gyros would have cost OP which has been spent better. 4.) Plasma comes through large batches of fighters. Other weapons don't. Solo missions VS pirates can get nasty when fighters block the replacements of the Plasma Cannons Role. 5.) Torpedos have done the job as you can see. These torpedos do the job also VS shields. 6.) The invictus is expensive but actually very useful..... as transport for personel. But during battle it is not that bad. But not good either. Its value is close to that of an onslaught. The high crew demand makes it only useful as reserve. But in my playthroughs they helped sometimes during early game and midgame.
