Taylor Diveley see, I had to try that note at home because I was a lil jealous that he could hit it, and I actually did it, but lemme tell you, it takes focus and control. I am shocked that he actually did it in front of an audience, that's a lot different than being alone.
Um...excuse me. *dead* WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT LAST NOTE?!?! I thought the original version was belting... THAT is just not human.... To Rick Desloge - you killed it... -insert slow clapping*
Original version is actually in German back in the 1990s and it was a high belted note. Micheal from the Paper Mill production (hope I said the right one) did a normal belt note.
Oh my goodness thanks for uploading your version! I am now Extremely sad I didn't get to see you perform as Quasimodo too! I love your rendition of this song. :D But...you've got a new fan!
Dang! I’m learning this song now for my recital in university and saw there’s a high c and this is the best I’ve heard it out of so many videos, good job!
Wow this was amazingly good!! I also suggest yall look up Texas Sate Universities performance of this song!! The guy who sung this was amazing, comment below if you watched it
Rick Desloge I have some difficulty getting up to the high note for "my one human eye, will evermore be dry until the day I die, as if I..." and holding it for "stone" at the end. Is there anything you suggest I should do to prepare for that on a vocal standpoint? This would be incredibly helpful and I look up to you because you were incredible as Quasimodo.
The voice is such a personal thing it's tough to suggest specific techniques to address your support on that Bb. Are you working with a teacher or coach on this? They probably have a better handle on your instrument than me! From an acting perspective, try looking at the text of that last chunk and notice the final word: eye, dry, die, I, stone. Think about working through the last word of each phrase to really get his point across. It's heavy stuff so make sure you are planted/grounded and go for it. Connecting Quasimodo's feeling of agony with his vocal tension might help get you there. Oh and thanks for the kind words!
when i first hit the notes when singing it leisurely, it was purely by accident. in my opinion, it’s all about breath support and emotion. let the music swell inside you, let it build up. and for god sake, make sure you warm up. otherwise you’re screwed.
djosdjkx lfkjdlsfjlsdk I’m not exactly sure (or concerned with) where I am placing any note so long as it doesn’t take the audience out of the moment. That being said, it’s not falsetto and is placed the same as Bb. So... I guess my mix?
It's not a traditional Greek Chorus since it's set in the Cathedral with very few humans, and it's to illustrate his loneliness by demonstrating that his inner thoughts and friends are the gargoyle statues surrounding him rather than real people. Maybe before offering your fucking stupid comments, understand the context first?
An Hw well I think they're referring to the style of the papermill playhouse product that textually acknowledged them as gargoyles but they were fully personified. they giant floating clay heads detracts from the humanity and gravity of the interactions between quasi and his internal demons. It also takes away from the darker tone set in the stage production by reminding you that " hey remember the time Disney did this". I think they fully understand the context. your comment actually makes it seem like you dont. Or at least you haven't seen it done with just a chorus and therefore cant see where that comment would come from. It was an opinion. Let them have one.
The ensemble of human beings is supposed to be statues anyway. I actually hated that the way the statues/gargoyles were handled in the La Jolla production. It came across as cheap.
AlienMidget123 I recently watched this live in Copenhagen, and they used real human beings, no weird floating heads. I really don't like that either, it makes it a little weird tbh...
I just stumbled upon this and wow just wow so talented
HOLY CRAP HE DID THE HIGH NOTE
That last note caught me so off guard. My mouth is wide open. JUST when I was getting happy that I could belt the normal high note...
Taylor Diveley same
he's not really belting the High C. It's more of a Head/Chest voice mix.
If he belted it, it would have alot more power behind it
Taylor Diveley see, I had to try that note at home because I was a lil jealous that he could hit it, and I actually did it, but lemme tell you, it takes focus and control. I am shocked that he actually did it in front of an audience, that's a lot different than being alone.
Bb4 is already really high, especially to sustain. I've NEVER heard a man end a song on a sustained high C. That's insane.
@@KRUDDYMUSICIAN he's taking inpiration from the german productions done a while back.
Um...excuse me. *dead* WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT LAST NOTE?!?! I thought the original version was belting... THAT is just not human....

I saw this last year with my dad. He took me for my birthday. We had front row seats. It was incredible.
That phrasing is perfect at the end. And that High C surprised me!
I quit musical theater... that was.... oh my
I was already impressed by all the B flats, but the opt up here had me FLOORED, that was crazy
i was not ready for that last note
Jesus Christ, not even Alan Menken could nail that high note at the end
Well Alan Menken isn’t exactly an all-star singer so that’s not exactly a great comparison
Oh my goodness thanks for uploading your version! I am now Extremely sad I didn't get to see you perform as Quasimodo too! I love your rendition of this song. :D But...you've got a new fan!
AND THIS GUY WAS THE UNDERSTUDY!!!!
Whoa!!! That ending was stellar!
Mad respect, that performance is totally sick bro. well done!
OMG This is one of the best versions I've ever seen of this song!!!!!
I AM SHAKING! That ending was incredible!!! The power behind this song is so intense
You gave me chills near the end. And I like what you did with the last high note.
that was absolutely incredible! who is the actor playing Quasimodo? I kid you not, his voice stunned me at the high note
Rick deslogue
omg thank you so much for opting up.
Amazing job! I would love to have seen this live! Is there any footage of "Heaven's Light/Hellfire" and/or "Esmeralda"?
Dang! I’m learning this song now for my recital in university and saw there’s a high c and this is the best I’ve heard it out of so many videos, good job!
sick vocals! 10/10
God this performance was amazing!!!!!!!
HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK! The notes were already high how in the fuck-
Wow this was amazingly good!! I also suggest yall look up Texas Sate Universities performance of this song!! The guy who sung this was amazing, comment below if you watched it

Oh woah this was at Tuachan right here in Ut...
Cool!
YASSSS
Where tf did my jaw go
The opportunity for me to audition for the role of Quasimodo. Can you offer any advice about hitting the high note in this song? I am a tenor
zeldaglitchgamer breathe. And remember that the note is there to communicate the story. So tell the story!

Rick Desloge thank you Rick, this really helps. Much respect

Went a little higher there eh? 😂😂😂. Dope.
Are you in your mix for the high C? or a really powerful falsetto with a little nasal action? Spill the tea, Rick! ;)

I like how his imaginary friends are gargoyles here, I assume that it's a nod to the gargoyle trio from the film?
They are saints, made of stone, rather than the gargoyles that are in the film. Same idea though haha!
They are a mixture of saints and gargoyles.
in the german version, there were only three gargoyles, (male+male+female) so i can assume so :>
The gargoyles are fucking stupid. Its a lot more powerful with having an ensemble of human beings

Amen! The puppet thing really takes the depth out of the entire show.
