It was good that it was just a window awning that you easily could wind back up. In 2006 when traveling from Nebraska to Cheyenne we got caught in 50mph side winds gusting more. My late husband was not one to stop. Outside Cheyenne the wind pulled our awning canvas out - it was flying up over the rig. We stood there by the side of the road in the wind with no idea how we would get it back in. A gust of wind came along and it wound back up. We had the arms bungyed and now travel with bungee around the metal cover of the awning. They closed the pass so we spent the night in Home Depot parking lot. The winds were so bad when we went over the pass the next day we saw three semi trucks that were blown off the road.
Liz, watching your channel from the beginning. Your tutorial on the ups and downs of this lifestyle is fascinating. You do it with such class and dignity.
Excellent suggestions Liz, wind, rain, hail, snow, never any fun to drive through. The weather app sounds like something great to have. Enjoying the N side of the Grand Canyon and parked at Ruby’s RV park at Bryce now, be safe Liz, we’re headed to the Dakota’s soon.
@LizAmazing North side honestly is not worth the drive. Been there. Maybe if you went there first --- but after the southern area, the north just doesn't do it.
Wow! You have to think of so much! Good tips. I’m going to download the Weather on the Way app. Thanks for sharing your valuable experience Liz! Safe travels and blue skies!🍀🍀🍀🙋🏻♀️
Hi Theresa! Yes, so much to think about. You definitely have to be aware. Thanks for watching and let me know how you like that Weather on the Way, I really love it!
I'm a RN. Please, in bad weather, keep all your medications in waterproof bags, keep them together, and have refrigerated meds packed with ice packs. Bring your health insurance cards with you. Most Health insurance companies have a 24/7 number for you to call if a medical emergency arises. Excellent video, Liz!!
Great informative video, I have a go bag as you mentioned. In spring 2022 the campground I was in had a bad storm roll through I waited in my camper until the wind was too bad then grabbed my go bag and went to the shower house (designated storm shelter). As I was running there a large tree came down behind the shelter. We lost power for two days and the road in was blocked by a couple trees. Within an hour after the storm passed rangers were removing the trees. There were only 4 campers during that day, none of us got damage but some sites had trees down. Most places I go have a list of radio and tv stations as well as park emergency numbers and county sheriff numbers. Also address of the campground should something happen. I snap a picture on my phone when I get to a campground if they have that information available. I still had a great time after that. Safe travels Liz!!

Great advice, Liz! I love the weather on the way app and the Windy app as well. We drove through some horrendous wind in southern Idaho on our way back to Washington. I still have finger indentations on my steering wheel rim! LOL. Stay safe always!
Lady!!! you always give such awesome tips and advice. Love this segment. We recently hit some bad weather going into Iowa. Anyways, you nailed it with the Weather On the Way app. Did not know about that app. Thank you so much for that and all the other valuable information as well.
Awesome prep video! I try to always prepared for the apocalypse and I live off-grid with solar, propane, food storage, etc. in my home - but I have recently purchased a motor home. It's good to know that the same principles apply. I know just where to put that 30-day supply of food and my weather radio! 🙂
Hey Ms Liz... GREAT information to post on your channel. I hope all who watched learned something valuable. All is great at TC. The veggies are tasty and bountiful. J and M are in Colorado right now. Keep up the great vids and safe travels my dear...
Hi Tim, so glad J & M got away and can enjoy RV life some. Thanks for holding down the fort for them! And for your kind words. See you in the next one.
Another great video Liz! Very helpful. We just returned from a 10 day trip at Camping On The Gulf in Destin FL and we did have to hunker down during high winds and very fierce lightning. Our Progressive Industries EMS did save our electrical system. Other campers nearby we not so fortunate and lost use of their ACs and other appliances. The storm seemed to appear with no warning, we should’ve been more weather aware.
I just found your channel and my wife and I are binging! How in the world we haven't come across you sooner is beyond me. You really know your stuff! It's much appreciated. We had a 5th get taken out by a tornado. Luckily no one was in it at the time. My parents were parked right in front of us and they didn't get a scratch. Just goes to show you how fickle mother nature can be.
Such a great video with important information. I've never seen one like it for RVs. So needed. Thanks again, Liz, for a very informative and helpful video. 😊❤
Thank you Liz,excellent video! We got caught in a microburst and it was very scary, we were a sitting duck at the location….got through it with only loosing a topper on one of the slides. Didn’t know at the time to put our slides in…..we were lucky. Hope everyone pays heed to all the good information you just shared !

Liz, we learned a long time ago how much water a residential tub holds. Once her in Oregon we where with our power for over eight days. Learned to fill the tub for water. The color theory comes in to play for your toilet. Yellow is mellow, and brown is dumped. A freezer will last at least four days with the power off if you stay out of it. By the way road trips in to town make sure you buy dry ice that will carry your fridge and freezer for a short time. Learn to carry a chain saw. Never know when you might have to cut a fallen limb or tree. I still carry old style road flares. They have started many a wet wood fire. Ps: If your near Portland Oregon ring us up. Safe travels and roads Brian and Cindy, ". Xtreambydesign with passion"
Wow Liz! That was an amazing video. Great tips! I don’t think you missed anything. We’ve encountered bad weather many times. It’s always better to pull off the highway and find a safe spot to ride it out. The scariest thing for me is tornadoes. They are so unpredictable! It seems like campgrounds have bullseyes for these things. While staying at a campground in Pensacola we went to the local mall since the campground did not have any sort of shelter. We watched the weather at a store as tornadoes landed to east and west of us. Be safe out there!
We were traveling from our home in NC to California about three weeks ago, there was a wind advisory In Arizona and it tore my slide topper and completely tore out one of the rear side windows that I believe my 11 year old had rolled it out at the bottom on my 2018 Thor Venesian 40a diesel pusher, the roads were terrible from there to California.
Great advice and very informative. I do need to do a better job of paying attention to the weather. Last winter it actually snowed on me in Tucson. You could make snowballs. I was in Dallas in March and they were warning about storm with very large hail. No where to hide so I looked at various weather spots and went to Tyler TX. I got a little weather but the 90 mile drive was way worth it not to have to potentially deal with that type of hail damage. Good point on checking the wind. I had never been SW before a few years ago and holy smokes can there be some big winds.
Wow Liz, you did it again, great video! The weather on the way app works in both the USA and Canada. This is great! You are slowly but for sure heading to your goal of 100K! Bravo! I use a hand held satellite géo locator (SPOT) that you can just press a button and seek “rescue” should you need help (need a clear sky/outdoor). Have on me when hacking, biking and driving. Stay safe :)
@@LizAmazing just used the weather app you recommended (travelling on the coast of Northern Maine) and already is so useful! I can just scroll out and see what day is best for travel! Wow, thank you! By the way, some people tell me in case of a “bad” storms to stop under an overpass! What is your feeling about that? Many thanks as always.
@@bernardszirth9665 I think if you need to stop during inclement weather, an overpass offers a lot of protection. And glad to hear about the Weather on the Way! Happy travels!
you should place the rear window into the wind. breakage, a rear window costs far less and maybe easier to get than a windshield. in desert country just sand can destroy a windshield very very fast. on the rd try to park were a large building an provide some wind protection.
You really have a high profile vehicle. I had a motorhome and going through those Crosswinds from Tucson to phoenix. My entire RV jumped into the oncoming traffic. I had no control and there was no one on the road thank God but I want you to know that I really feel like and I just spoke to my sister kathi and she said the same exact thing like as of yesterday this planet has 2 1/2 more years and things are going to be really extreme as far as everything , and it’s gonna be quite a ride so be careful in that big rig I pray for you. I’m glad you’re so smart and you know how to plan your trips. It’s alarming how parts of the world already are uninhabitable now, but I’m in my little part of the world it is paradise I’m not kidding. It was the most epic vacation I’ve ever had my whole life a lot of really cool stuff happen here, later gator🐳🐋
Here's a tip. If you live in a Solitude pull behind, don't park under a large tree, with both slides out, in a wind storm. Sarcasm not intended (or was it). Larry from Texas
Oh no! Well, you know I had a Solitude fifth wheel. So very sorry that happened, Larry. I sure hope all that is behind you now. And thanks for watching, and contributing so much to this channel.
@@LizAmazing And here I go again. Allowing my mouth to engage before my brain does. I have never owned an RV. I was commenting about the “B” roll you inserted toward the end of the video. I was being sarcastic. It’s no excuse, but I spent many years of my career seeing the absolute worst of life, and to cope with it, I (and my fellow officers) developed a rather bizarre and sometimes dark sense of humor. I forget at times, that many people don’t understand my humor and occasionally I inadvertently offend. Some time ago, another TH-cam creator had a tree fall on their RV, causing significant damage, but it was not because of their lack of preparation. It was a freak accident, or what in the insurance business they call an act of God. I was thinking of that when I saw the example in your video. I’m hoping they survived the storm without incident but seeing them did bring to mind how fragile RV life can be. Larry from Texas
In 2019, we were in a campground in Dauphin Island, AL in a tent. At 3am the tornado sirens went off. Not the best decision, but I hid in a truck with trailer. Luckily no high winds. I’ve been in week long bike trips in a tent. We evacuated to a school. Several tents ended up in the trees.
Liz, we found that most of our trips were determined by the weather conditions. Also, I might point out that just because you are living in an RV doesn’t stop you from going on vacation. Several times we have parked at a campground and then took the car over to a bed and breakfast because my wife wanted to take a bath in a large soaking tub. Another time we had reservations to stay at the Hyatt in Naples, Florida. When we made the reservation we asked about parking the Motorhome and they assured me there was room. When we arrived, I asked where to park and they showed me and even put out traffic cones to protect our rig. Later on when I checked on the rig, some of the security guards wanted to know who was staying at the hotel, I told them, I was only the driver. The star was upstairs in the suite. (Our son was the golf course superintendent for the Hyatt at the time).
This is a good point, Bill. Thanks for your comment and I love that you refer to your wife as a star! I bet she believes you hung the moon! Big hugs to you both.
Yeah, driving down the road through a forest then pass into a stretch of fields with a 40 knot crosswind, you better know what your doing and have all the right equipment. Your knuckles get white quick.
Thanks for all the bad weather tips. You seem to have a lot of very useful information. I've been trying to find a map book that I was told truckers once used that listed interstate bridge heights plus rest areas and tolls etc. Wondering if your familiar with this map/book. Google is ok but not always dependable. Thanks again
I haven't heard about that but RV Trip Wizard and the RV Garmin have settings where you can enter in the height and weight of your rip for route planning. Thanks for watching, Larry.
Another fantastic video Liz, another safety thing is to unplug your RV from the camp ground shore power in case of a surge. Most RVS have have enough battery power to live out a storm. You are definitely the queen of safe. Till next week be SAFE and be CAREFUL. 🙄🥰🙄🥰
How do you get it Susan? I wanted to explain better what I was trying to tell you when I was driving my RV, which was only 24 foot motorhome that wind between Tucson and Phoenix is famous for coming out of nowhere or you can’t for prepare yourself for it suddenly it’s there you don’t know it’s coming, so I just wanted to clarify that because I you said yeah I know that’s why I pulled over but this is a different thing. It’s a different animal. OK well have a great time. Take care Liz.
IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU HAVE TO KEEP TELLING PEOPLE THESE COMMON SENCE THINGS.BUT, I HAVE COMMON SENCE IS NOT SO COMMONENYMORE. ALTHOUGH IT'S STILL GOOD TO HEAR.AND GREAT ADVICE

I installed that app on my iPad and started to play around with it. I love it! It has such great features. One of my favorite features is the speed adjustment.
Good tip, thanks!
Great Information as Always, Thank You 😊
Thank you for being here, Ellen!
Great video Liz. Thanks 🙏🏽 ❤
Thank you for watching. Have a great weekend!
Thanks, lots of good info.
Thank you for watching, Ed, have a nice weekend!
You really have a high profile vehicle. I had a motorhome and going through those Crosswinds from Tucson to phoenix. My entire RV jumped into the oncoming traffic. I had no control and there was no one on the road thank God but I want you to know that I really feel like and I just spoke to my sister kathi and she said the same exact thing
like as of yesterday this planet has 2 1/2 more years and things are going to be really extreme as far as everything , and it’s gonna be quite a ride so be careful in that big rig I pray for you.
Hi Susan! Sounds like you are having a really good year!!! Thanks for checking in and be safe.
A really good video! THANK YOU! ☺
Excellent and valuable video clip!
Thank you much!
Thank you for this info
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the tips and about the weather drive app. Been caught out on the road once. This could have given us a heads up.
You are so welcome, Norm!
Health emergencies can happen at anytime and any place. Get CPR and firstaid trained. You can save a life when you are prepared!
Thanks for this!
Great information Liz!!!
Thanks Kim, hugs to you!
@@LizAmazing you’re welcome
Hi Liz…thank you so much for sharing this App and your video! I always want to know when to take precautionary measures….great advice . .. Lisa
Hi Lisa! Thanks for being here! Safe travels to you and Alan.
High winds is the reason I got rid of my slide out toppers and went with True Toppers.
Yikes. Yes, wind can be destructive. Thanks for watching and be safe.
Liz Thank You🙏🏽
Thanks Cher!
This came at the perfect time Liz! We are having thunder storms in South Dakota near Rapid City! Stay safe Liz!
Oh gosh! Be safe. I have friends who just evacuated their campground in Vermont due to flooding. Definitely have to stay aware. Thanks for watching.
I also check accuweather. Also check wunderground weather.
I do, too. But none of those shows the weather on the way, which is so important when traveling. Thanks for watching.
Great advice!!! Thanks
Thank you, Joseph!
Thank you for the video, Liz. I am glad you were safe in the windy drive area. Good to know of the weather on the way app.
Thank you so much. Be safe as well, and keep cool!
@@LarryLMelton Got it. Yes, if that storm had gotten any worse we would have pulled the slides in! Sorry I missed the sarcasm the first time around!
Great video! Thank you 😊
Thank you for watching, Debbie!
have been through rough weather a few times never fun safe travels
No it's not. Safe travels to you as well, Allan.
Whew! Hard to believe they have tornadoes way down there. And I love Dauphin Island, glad it all worked out. Thanks for watching.
@@LizAmazingExcellent tip about knowing what county where you are camping.
Amazing Liz! Good info!
Thanks so much, glad to have you here!
Great info Liz! as usual...
Thanks Kathy, hugs to you!
Stay safe stay warm✌️😍
Thank you! Too warm here now though, lol!
@@LizAmazing ✌️✌️😍😍😍happy to see. You
PS someone told me the worst Crosswinds in the country are between Tucson and Phoenix but that only happened to me once and I traveled it a lot…
Wow, I have never experienced them there. I hear Texas has them bad. Be safe, Susan.
very cool! Thanks for the info
Congrats on being the first to comment, Beth! And thanks for watching!
We will have to get that APP since we be traveling throught the tornado states on the way to Indiana. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, it really is a good thing to have. Safe travels to you, Cindy. And thanks for watching.

Thank goodness I appreciate this advice I downloaded that app
Glad to hear this, Kathy! Let me know how you like that app.
Great tips Liz stay safe I’m glad you had no major problems 😅
Thanks Corey, stay safe as well. Have a great weekend.
Good advice
Thanks Mike
Look forward to your weekly videos and seeing your co-star...the bananas! Sometimes '"bruised best for bakin;" and sometimes not...like today! Lol.
Great info Liz
Thanks Timothy! Have a great weekend.
Great app 🌈
It sure is, thanks Susan!
Yeah, driving down the road through a forest then pass into a stretch of fields with a 40 knot crosswind, you better know what your doing and have all the right equipment. Your knuckles get white quick.
Yikes, something to watch out for indeed. Thanks for your comment, and for watching.
Your videos are always so timely and super helpful! ❤ I can't find that app on my Android but the Highway Weather app is free on Android.
Good to know, thank you!
Something I never thought about - newbie picking up our Class A in 2 weeks... too bad the app is only on iphone...
Congrats on your Class A. Hopefully there will be an Android version soon. Thanks for watching.
If you have a to go bag make sure you have your medicines and extra water for any pets.
Yes indeed!
Protection against storm looters
Yes, good one!
Another fantastic video Liz, another safety thing is to unplug your RV from the camp ground shore power in case of a surge. Most RVS have have enough battery power to live out a storm.
You are definitely the queen of safe. Till next week be SAFE and be CAREFUL. 🙄🥰🙄🥰
Great tip, Larry, thank you! Be safe as well!
Beautiful lady. Great content!❤
Thank you Frank! And be safe.
Yep. You have to be aware. Winds can be so scary. Thanks for watching.
Geez, Liz. Havent you heard? Rving is suppose to be an adventure every mile.
!
Endless adventures!!
IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU HAVE TO KEEP TELLING PEOPLE THESE COMMON SENCE THINGS.BUT, I HAVE COMMON SENCE IS NOT SO COMMONENYMORE. ALTHOUGH IT'S STILL GOOD TO HEAR.AND GREAT ADVICE
It's true. People need to hear it, sometimes just to be reminded of what they already know. Thanks for watching.
