@@andrewhigdon8346 Are we not a bit underwhelmed with Bungle 2020? I don't want their teenage years thrash, I want their mid-90s experimentalism and ambitious instrumentation!!
@@martybyrnemusic yes I agree. Even though Disco Volante and California both grew on me over time, neither one has any part or song or even theme to compare to the original Mr. Bungle. The whole of Disco is experimentation and none of them are what we would consider songs, but an excellent listen nonetheless. And while California is all real songs, with some of them being top notch, on fifth listen. Retrovertigo is exceptional. Pink Cigarrette is very, very good. But here we are tasked with comparing the incomparable. Here’s my analogy. The first album is Kind of Blue. Disco is Bitches Brew. California is the actual songs that Miles never assembled himself as true originals. The Four Seasons would be California. Scheherazade would be Mr. Bungle. Telling a singular story with unfettered expression and musical prowess in pure form, with little to no concern for what came before or what may come after. Mr. Bungle’s first album is a true masterpiece of musical expression, fortitude of arrangement, instrumental (including the voice) chops beyond mere mortal ability, and a lasting impression where the term timeless is not enough of an accurate description, the same way that some artists will find a nuance in the Mona Lisa or better yet any Dali work which brings that insatiable feeling of wonderment back anew, as if gazing upon its visage for the first time, like that first drive in your favorite car, or more pointedly, that first entry into the into the vagina of that girl you previously thought out of your league. In other words, magic. Real magic. Not stage magic. I don’t care for GnR, but Appetite approaches this as a savant work of art. Wow! For someone more familiar with Mr. Bungle's studio work, this video was one hell of a revelation. This video alone makes me wish they were still around!
I was there too ! It was incredible (apart from the watery beer). I've never been able to find any footage of the show though. Damn I miss Bungle. My all time favourite band. They produce a phenomenal album with California, then leave us :(
i love that i saw them on their last tour......i had no idea that was going to be their last...but im glad i wasnt fucked up at all and remember everything...mike pulled his balls out...the drummer was bleeding from his head...great show.....oh....he wasnt bleeding because mike pulled his balls out.....mike frisbeed one of his cymbals at him....great time...

artstyfairie08 : Thanks for posting what is likely to still be in my top 3 gigs when I die. Ween's gig was a stormer too, good weekend that, I feel a bit sad now :o)
I’ve got a Ween story. Quick version. They had just played the encore song, I think it was Mr. Richard Smoker. Claude is messing around and accidentally plays the double kick “Hot for Teacher” intro. Dean joins in and they play the song, and played another 90 minutes, for about a 3 1/2 hour show, total. Epic. I was the monitor engineer, so my experience was epic. I knew it was going to be an awesome show when after I ran them through a little monitor check, and asked them if they’d like to do a song, Claude plays on the drum pad the chimes from “Spinal Meningitis Got Me Down”, and the first hit was heavy as fuck! What a fucking show! And I see shows for a living. Never saw Bungle though. And I’ll be right there by your side.
At 2:45 I can hear sudden death of the Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny demo, A bit later Anarchy up you Anus, there reunion wasn't that much of a stretch from where they ended .
I already asked this on another video from this show: but could somebody put all vidos from this gig together into one full-gig-video?. It would be glorious.
@Ominus666 ...yeah Bungle was far better than Incubus or System of a Down on that tour, just weren't as "pop"ular. That tour did expose them to a lot of people who otherwise would never even hear of them. Please come back Mr. B! sigh
@mrbunghole So did I! Probably just because he's built like a tank. I think the quote was "I'm 5 foot 9, hell half the supermodels I date are taller then me"...a little strange hearing a punk icon talk about dating supermodels haha
I've never found a Bungle live video that can match their studio work. This doesn't change my opinion. They killed it in the pop parts but the metal parts live kinda sucked and the metal parts is what makes the studio version so great.
