Thank you, professor Peled! I had to quit cello for a while partly because it was painful in my left hand when I practiced. This video helped me understand why it is so important to learn the natural positions and movements to avoid pain and to improve sound quality. Thank you for inventing an emoji system and putting it into a book and this video to help me understand and remember the key concepts. You practice what you preach and your cello sounds very organic and very expressive.

Does anyone know with "bouncing lower back", does that mean actually pushing out your lower back into a curve, instead of sitting-up straight? Is that good all the time, or just when you want really deep, sonorous sound?

Hello Mr. Peled. Your video is so didactic and interesting, I learned so much with your emojis :) !. I have two questions about emojis in left hand(sorry for my english):
1. The Cobra Emoji is the same(or equivalent) of Brunello "articolazione percussiva" or Alexanian "Percussion Fingers"?
2. The Cobra and Pluck emojis is something that I have to do ALL the time(in scales, arpeggios, etudes, playing repertoire) or only in context of rapid passages (for example) such require clarity?

@AmitPeledCellist for the strawberry emoji you said that the left hand fingers shouldn’t be pressed all the way down onto the fingerboard however, won’t you achieve a clearer sound if your fingers were pressed and rounded on the fingerboard?

Opened my eyes. Thanks. One question the techniques seem to assume that only one finger is in the string at any time. I was taught to put down all my fingers that are below the finger pressing the string (strawberry).Did I misunderstand or is that just a different way of teaching?

I am an adult beginner playing the cello for 7 years now. I like your video very much and therefore I ordered you book: The first hour. Since I live in Germany, I couldn´t order a paperback. Shipping cost ist more expencive than the book itselfs. Therefore, I ordered a kindl Version from Amazon. However the sheets and the description are to small to read on a pc (big screen) or Laptop. It´s also impossible to enlarge the sheets. So the idea is very good and I would like to have these 1 hour with you and your exercises. What to do?

Oh wow. Let me tell you that ALL OF THE TEACHERS IVE HAD ALWAYS INSISTED ON HAVING THE ELBOW UP WHEN GOING TOWARDS THE HIGHER NOTES. FOR ME, to some extent was a bit annoying and I have a huge disadvantage than most cellist ( yes I know I’m not the only one) I HAVE MODERATE SCOLIOSIS meaning it is close to being severe ( no I’m not contorted, but the curvature of the spine is bad enough). All the more is my necessity to play in a lose and comfortable way. Other teachers I’ve seen online say that you have to have strong fingers or else your notes are not articulated WRONG! That all depends on where to place your finger on the string. Is it completely on top or on the side of it. Is it partial on top and partially on the side? Then there is the issue of doing extensions. I have long fingers but small hands but I don’t have a problem with doing extensions but a lot of cellists seem to make it harder than it has to be and I don’t think that having small hands or short fingers would keep you from doing extensions comfortably. Thank you for sharing this.
