Queen OfNY yes I agree. I have friends who are drowning in clothes, shoes, papers all over their houses. They are overwhelmed. Think of how you feel when you go into a nice hotel room - it is totally clutter free. It feels so good. Clutter weighs us down.

Work with a guy who owned a 3500 Sq ft 3 story home complete with a 6 man jacuzzi, a loft, master with 2 walk in closets, several full baths, etc. First thing I thought was "that must suck to clean and find furniture for all that." He told me they almost NEVER used the third story for anything, and had 2 extra bedrooms that served no purpose with the exception of an occasional guest.
Why would you want that much space for 2 people? He has since downgraded to 1800 Sq ft. and realized the waste that was. More things will not make you happier long term. Appreciate what you have and buy quality over quantity.

Thank you !! This video was very inspiring! It's been 2 weeks of purging a family of 5, still working on it, but 5 large garbage bags and 2 boxes later we are definitely on our way. I am still working on having empty counter tops, I enjoy having some items, no appliances, but definitely not just bare!!

I really appreciate this video! I am not doing the Kon Mari method specifically, but I suffer from chronic anxiety and while it doesn't FIX the problem, having clutter makes the problem worse, so by having things in order and clean it definitely helps me to be able to calm down faster. I still have a long way to go, I get really overwhelmed when I am decluttering but now I am just taking it day by day and dedicating specific time limits. One of the tips you talked about you said that you wonder if you will need it one day. That is a big one I struggle with, but then I also struggle with...well I don't want to spend money to replace it if I do find that I need it so I battle the guilt. An example is clothes, I have quite a bit of weight to lose but I still have all of my "skinny" clothes. Losing weight is taking a lot longer then I had hoped so a part of me thinks I should just get rid of those clothes, but that would mean buying new clothes once I got back to a smaller size. Some would say that is a reward but I also feel guilty spending money ;) so, that is something I am working on as I continue to purge.
Also, PAPER...man that stuff accumulates! I never know what is important to keep.

I absolutely agree with everything you said! Such an inspiring video! I'm a closet hoarder who just got on the Declutter train and I'm loving it! My Dad used to try to instill the "One in, one out" method with me for my shoes, but it never stuck. So I think one of my next Declutter videos will have to be shoes! Please continue this series, I find it so motivating for my Declutters.

Great points! Your first point about a weight lifted off you in so on point for me. The feeling of not "needing" everything and the freedom that brings me mentally is a life changer. Many people work countless hours to make money to buy junk they stuff in garages and attics after a year, instead of spending time with kids and enjoying life. I have many nice things, but there is always something bigger and better. Having the thought that bigger and better is no longer important ~ is AMAZING.

I agree about being happier with less stuff! I moved across county a few years ago with only a suitcase. Not having a whole wardrobe of clothing, just essentials, I found it so much easier to mix and match outfits and figure out what to wear. I think it is so typical for women especially to only wear 10-20% of our wardrobes and hold on to the rest "just in case", and feel like we have nothing to wear, or struggle for over an hour trying to combine pieces for an outfit! In only 2 years I have already waaaay over-accumulated clothing and misc. and I am ready for a huge purge! Thank you for this video! Your house is beautiful and everything was definitely inspiring.

I loved this video💕 I am a fairly neat and organized person, and can't stand clutter but after watching your video on decluttering I realized I had way more stuff to give away and donate rather then keep it! I got rid of 9 big garbage bags full of clothes that my hubby and I did not NEED! And I feel so much happier that it went to families that truly need it!Thank you for being such an amazing & beautiful inspiration:)

This also works great when you're remodeling. I began with the most stressful room, as you suggested, which is the family room. It took almost 7 months to remodel (fireplace, built-in shelves, new wiring, etc.) and I decluttered as well. Nothing went back into that room, and it's so much better!! Less really is more! This room was finally complete right before Christmas, and I'm so inspired now to move on and tackle each room! Thanks for the great advice in all your videos, love them!!

I found your channel last night and watched quite a few videos. I was inspired to start my decluttering/minimalising again. I have purged my house about 3 times, each time being more strict with myself, but I had fallen into some old habits again. So, today I started again. Once again I feel the release from stress and wonder why I stopped. Thanks for your help. By the way, knowing you have gone through it all and had the same emotions, also helps. I have watched a lot of these videos and some people have a very superior attitude.

We will be moving soon and after watching your video of The Konmari Method I began that as well as having the mind set that I refuse to bring excess and clutter into our new home. I don't want to bring the extra "baggage"(no pun intended:) into a fresh start in life. I found that a lot of my stuff had feelings and memories attached to them that weren't the greatest and I feel like this has helped me so, so much. I love to give things to my loved ones that I know they love or should have in their life more than I do. And lastly I love donating to a thrift store opened by my twin's friend's mother and with the proceeds of it do amazing work in our community.

Thank you for making this video! It gave me a boost of encouragement. I've actually been doing regular sweeps of decluttering for the past few years, and every month I have at least one new box of belongings to donate! I have made so much progress. I think the hardest things for me to part with are sentimental items from people who have passed away, and items that make me feel guilty. (Like gifts from family/friends - part of the fear is "Oh my gosh what if they ask about said item later??")

Yes! Everything you said that's my goal. I'm recently going through de cluttering my environment. This week I started with my clothing and I ended up donating three big bags to goodwill. These were items I purchased and never wore or items I did wear but they did not "spark any joy". I've been looking into the konmari method as well. 😊It can be a tad overwhelming at times but I've noticed a sense of calm around me as my home gets less and less cluttered.
And, my mom does the same thing. She is always bringing stuff to my house and it's items I don't need so I quietly donate what I don't need to Goodwill or church. 👍🏼

We have learnt well the lessons taught us by marketing in how to consume more products. It makes sense that unlearning it takes time. I love and want the minimalist look (your home being a great example) but my habits, thought processes and shopping excesses undo it a little too quickly. I've a ways to go but I'm sure the light bulb moment is just around the corner. Thank you for sharing your tips.

Rewatching this video to keep myself motivated. I believe everything you're saying regarding "stuff". The more you own, the more burden you have, More things to clean, more to worry about, more things that can break.....etc! I want to simplify my life to live a cleaner, calmer, and uncluttered life. My only problem is getting my hubby and son on board. Spending money on travel and experiences rather than stuff is my new motto.😊BTW your house is beautiful! 😊Congrats💕

I'm loving the minimalist life too! We moved to Hawaii with two suitcases and have acquired so much, now trying to get rid of what we don't need and am extremely picky about what we buy! I love to fill our home and life with things we love. Less is more. #simplelife

The one in, one out method is something I do a lot with my clothes, and that has really helped me to keep my closet minimal. So I'm pretty much happy with what I have and try to make the most of that :)

Just found your channel today and been binge watching, you have definitely gained a subscriber and you have seriously inspired me to make a change in my life. I have ridiculously cluttered counters when I only use a fraction of the products. I am about to do a major purge and I'm so happy you gave me the motivation to do so. Thank you for sharing your life and these great tips! :)

Just found your channel, and I'm really enjoying it! I did the same decluttering thing last summer, but I think it's time to go through it again! There is something so freeing in getting rid of the things that don't bring you joy. 😊

Love this! I recently moved and purged so many items. Def the hardest part was thinking what if I need this item later on down the road? As soon as I got past it I felt relieved,I'm the type where clutter stresses me out and i'd constantly be organizing but didn't know where to put everything. I passed on a lot of clothes that didn't fit properly and makeup that I had multiples of or got because of the social media hype and didn't really work for me. It also forces me to use products that I already have and finishing them before buying another. I love the feeling of not having so much stuff! Xx

new to this channel, i have to say congratulations! you´re videos are well made, simple, and helpful! i was really bored to clean the house (obviously i clean, but i think it´s boring) and your cleaning videos really motivate me to do it better, your video on how to save money helped me to start saving up cauze we're planning to get married in a year or two, and this video is really helpful too since our place is not big and we have a lot of unecessary stuff that makes it look even smaller! thank u!

I love the funny scenes you put at the end of your videos :-D Thank you so much for this video! I really needed it, you are so right. I will use your tips for sure. I still have one thing that bothers me when I get rid of clutter : I end up with lots of half broken or very dusty items (stuff that was hidden somewhere like on top of a tall closet or in a dark corner, covered up by something else) and they're useless and I feel guilty thinking it all goes to fill an already huge dumpster. I wish I were a craft genius so that I could trasform all of that stuff into something else but even if I were, it would take a full time job to really take care of it.

oh my Gosh, I love you. you sound exactly like me. I absolutely am a visual too, if I can't be bothered to clean and declutter I watch Anthea Turner to get inspiration. the same for cooking and other things. keep making those videos. I love them. I only just had a major clear out and clean over the weekend. feels so good. I hate clutter and too much stuff. my mum and sister is the same.

Love! This video couldn't have come at a more opportune time! We are in the process of selling our home & hopefully purchasing another...decluttering & purging is a MUST! I definitely have to tackle the area that has needed the MOST attention since we've moved into our current home & that is organizing our master closet & bath...we have accumulated so MANY things! But your video has inspired me & I plan to get it done this week. TFS! New subbie here & look forward to watching more vids like this! Especially since I find after watching TH-cam or looking over my IG...I'm more inspired to spend! Looking forward to a more minimalistic lifestyle & saving more money!
