CHAMELEON TINT ROAD LEGAL? Let's find out.....

  • In today’s video, we install what we thought was a road-legal chameleon tint to my 2007 Ford Focus ST-225 with Shogun Customs in bristol.
    Previously MPS Owen Messenger from the D&C police tested my last chameleon tint and it read illegal with a light reading of 73%, this time around were praying that it passes the light reading and demonstrates an example of tinting your windscreen legally - In this example we actually used a brand new TintMan the Newest most of up to date version of the polices personal choice of equipment.
    For reference here in the UK a front windscreen must let through a minimum of 75% light and the side windows must let through 70%, taking these rules into account we will find out if my ST passes the vibe check courtesy of Shogun Customs.

    From the states here was curious what the car community was like in the UK. It’s been a culture shock to see all the rules and regulations you have to deal with. But still even with all that amazing to see so much enthusiasm and interest. great vids thanks for this window into the UK car world

      @@phantombigballs8165 I’d say it’s more the Disregard for the law and reckless driving than actual vehicles falling about. Which does happen. The old Toyota Corolla comes to mind. But things like mods tint exhaust themselves don’t cause our deaths. Texting and driving or not looking while merging I’d say are 70% of it.

      @@achppa1844 yeah lol here in the states a 17 year old can buy a 4 banger and mod it pretty easily to double the horse power. But it’s going to be the reckless driving not the car itself that kills somebody. Can’t believe you guys are restricted from something like a spoiler on your car aftermarket. Or playing with the exhaust slanting tires and the such.

    In the US, its really not "illegal" in most states as long as its not too vibrant and still clear, (like the tint you used), but if you put a super dark and colorful tint on your windshield its doing more harm than good and you will get ticketed. Clear anti-glare tint is legal in most states here too. In my state, Texas, there are 0 restrictions on rear windows and rear passenger side windows, so you can go full limo tint on them. Front side passenger windows are allowed to have as dark as 22% (the law says 25% but a difference of 3 is allowed), and the front window can be darkened to around 75% without getting ticketed. You technically arent allowed to tint the full windshield here but a cop isnt even going to look twice as long as its not as dark as the side windows.

    I've been tempted by one for ages. I wonder whether the laws can change in relation to the touching mobile phones in the car.. as the chameleon would surely make it more difficult for whatever means the police are using to monitor phone use to see inside.

      Personally I think that these things look pretty tacky - although I do respect that people can do what they (legally) want to their cars. My taste isn't someone else's and I first and foremost respect a person's passion.
      What bothers me about these more than anything is that I cannot see the driver. Not from a nosy point of view, but from a 'I don't know where they're looking, have they seen me' point of view.
      I also find them surprising to be illegal as, like you mentioned, police and cameras won't be able to see inside to see what the driver may or may not be doing.

    how does the certifcate work, surely if the police test it and its illegal they wont care about what the certificate says so its pointless theres no way to make sure unless it lets in atleast 80-90% of the light through, anything around 75-80 can differ on machines and day light wear tear ect ect

    • @jamiefenner123

      If the machine is calibrated within spec and the police pull you over and test it with their calibrated device the difference will be within a very small tolerance so you wouldn’t have any issues so long as you weren’t dancing with the legal limit

    • @davidhall7811

      @@davidhall7811 My guess is that if a traffic officer has taken the time to stop somebody they will spend a few extra minutes testing it themselves anyway. That said I imagine most will be able to tell just by looking (from the inside) whether it's legal or not.

    I dont think it's about how much light can get through with this its about the reflective colour on it as you can't see who's driving.
    I got pulled over about 6 months ago and was told to remove my light tint from my 2 front windows as they said it was to dark, but you see people with total blacked out front windows and how do motorbike riders get away with there helmet visors blacked out??

    • @danielfish101
      @danielfish101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @BaldMancTwat
      @BaldMancTwat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danielfish101 Nah, having a tinted motorcycle helmet visor is also illegal and also they do want to see your face a bit, because some cameras take pictures of the car and it will help to prove who was driving. But it's true, most police officers don't pull over people with dark tints, at least where I live. I see so many cars with illegal front tints.

    • @ssrsuspension8247
      @ssrsuspension8247 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The legal rule for how tinted a visor can be in the UK is pretty simple. The law says that your visor must allow light transmission of at least 50%. This means that less than 50% of the light can be blocked by the visor, dark tinted motorcycle visors allow this, but then become illegal at night or in low visibility conditions.
