    Depending on how much printing you will be doing in the future, a resin printer might be worth investing in. They excel in smaller, high detail prints. More than likely would require post processing/painting though.

    I only currently have one PuP(might be getting another soon idk) but honestly I think the bases are just...*Fine?* They're not hideous, though they're kinda...way too big, and I guess it's to keep them all uniform because some figures might need the bigger base? And I like the shape that makes it seem like it'd be easier to display more of them together, I just don't like how big it is. But I love custom bases as an idea! Custom anything honestly gets me hype, custom dolls, custom clothes, custom figures, it's all an awesome way to express creativity and it makes me so happy seeing people show that kinda thing off yknow?

    dawn dish soap works great for magnetic print bases. It will let the print stick better without glue.

  • @robosaxophone

    Hi Gwen, I love your videos and am impressed by your 3d print, given your experience. I do a lot of printing and to me the gunk is something I almost never clean. Some printbeds require glue sticks or tape which will lead to the gunk, but you can also look at different material print beds that don't need extra adhesive and you can avoid a lot of the gunk. Some people even like to print straight onto glass, but I think your set-up is great already and I would not worry about the gunk unless it becomes hard to remove prints. It is always easy to clean the bottom of a print with soap and water or lightly sand if needed too.
    FYI, it looks like you scribbled the barcodes in your package with sharpie. The way barcodes work, they are verticals lines of different widths and spacings to correspond to numbers/letters. The kind of scribble you did is basically invisible to a barcode reader. I'd suggest pulling those off or putting a solid piece of tape over any barcode or address if you don't want people to be able to see the information those contain.

    i LOVE having custom bases for firgures. Especially prizes. I have a prize Frankenstein from Fate (the only figure of her in the dress #rip), and it just came with a plain black base. When I finally have time, I plan on redoing the base to have some grass and flowers, and try to get it to swirl around her a bit!
    Would love to see you make more, or even have community bases!

  • @nikaporozov

    This looks so nice! Also the idea is great! I have a 3D printer and also a few PUPs, I think I might try to print a base too, such a cool idea. Also I don’t mind GS making the default bases, after all PUPs are a budget and unified line, and its not as bad as some prize figures’ bases. I think I’d buy a PUP over a prize if I have no choice and the character doesn’t have decent scales.

    Very cool idea to make a vid on custom bases! I've been watching garage kit vids and mini painting ones (Eons of Battle makes awesome basing vids for minis) to one day make a custom base for a figure.
    And yes, some pop up parades are great and others... I got a Genos (from One Punch Man) and it looks alright, but the face is way off. Thankfully I found a 1/10 scale of him made by Tsume and it looks great.

I love the finished base so much!!! my first PUP was Chocola from Nekopara despite the fact that I don’t know much about her, just thought her design was really cute!! then I got Vanilla, and Coconut will be on the way soon once she finally ships out!! great video as always!!!! 🥺💖

    • @robosaxophone
      @robosaxophone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just got some nekopara PUPs as well! I am planning to design a new base for them, but if you have any ideas I'd be interested to hear. I was going to just do something similar to the more expensive Nekopara line where they are each standing on a slice of cake/pie of the same flavor as their name, but other ideas could be fun... Such as a chocolate bar 🍫 for Chocola and a Maple leaf for Maple 🍁 :)

    • @oliver-vk9px
      @oliver-vk9px 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robosaxophone oops sorry I accidentally pressed the dislike button thinking it was the reply button :( back to like now though!! and I think the cake slice base ideas is a wonderful idea!! that would look so cute and would fit them really well (from the little I know about them!!)! but doing different items based on their names also sounds really cool!! hmm, that’s a tough decision!! I would think the cake slices would make them look more cohesive when displayed together, but the different objects would make them look unique! :) I guess it depends how you display them! I would personally do the cake/pie slice idea!! thanks so much for replying to my comment and letting me have a great time reading and replying to you :) have a great day!!

    Heya, I run three different 3D printers. For and Ender3 if you have non circles you probably have to calibrate the Esteps instead of tightening the belts (unless the belts are really loose!)
    You tighten belts on CoreXY printers for circles but the Ender3 is a Cartesian.

    I Love this! I recently designed and printed some pieces that were missing from an incomplete figure I got for an absolute steal of a price at a con 3D printing is a fantastic compliment to figure collecting! It's hard to tell 100% form the video since when you pause it, it is still a bit blurry but it actually looks like the gaps aren't from loose belts and arent ghosting, it almost looks like under extrusion. You might want to slightly increase the nozzle temps, and increase the extrusion multiplier by a few percent. Since this is the first time you're using that filament a temp tower and benchy might be in order. IDK exactly what you printed at but since you used 200C to switch the filament out if you are printign at 200C try upping nozzle temp a bit, I've never used that exact brand but I know I've had to push other brands "silk" filaments up to aroudn 215-220C.

    It is a bit scuffed, as a guy that has been modeling and printing for a while i am overcritical but it actually looks pretty cool, my suggestion would be to spray it with primer and paint after printing it in a fine layer height, it will be perfectly flat with a thick enough coat, that way you can also file the model down a bit without endangering the looks, this is pretty much the best way in my opinion when printhing with an FDM printer a figure piece.

    My first PUP(s) were Kikyo and Kagome. I was surprised by the good quality for such a low price, but Kikyo's quality is definitely better than Kagome's. But I really can't complain given the price point. Especially since I've been waiting for these characters to get up-to-date figures.
    Mako and the 3D printed base look amazing! It seems that I am in the minority who doesn't really mind the PUP bases xD Then again, maybe I haven't been annoyed by them yet since I only have 2 so far and don't plan on getting more anytime soon? Anyways, congrats on your first PUP and awesome base!

    I had a very unpleasant experience with my Pop Up Parade Order (I used Solaris Japan). I preordered Inuyasha and Kagome (Sesshomaru on an other website) and they looked horrible when they arrived (bubbly paint on Kagomes Socks and Inuyashas Pants, scratched off paint on Inuyashas Hair, their eyes where too big, some places havent been sanded properly before painting, Inuyasha was very pale and yellowish) so I asked Solaris Japan if they where bootleg figures (they where not). Very reluctantly (they said they don't see any defects - despite me making close up fotos) they contacted Goodsmile Company for me (I don't know if they really did) and (so Solaris Japan says) Goodsmile said these are manufactory flaws and that they don't help with manufactory flaws. So Solaris Japan said that they could only offer me to keep the figures plus a refund in points for their shop but ONLY because it was my first order with them (usually they are more expensive so I normally order elsewhere) and "only this one time". That whole thing made me angry and disappointed. I didn't want a refund, I wanted replacements! I ended up taking their offer, very cheaply sold them on "ebay Kleinanzeigen" and now my points ly arround because I will not have money for an unknown period. I will never buy anything from Goodsmile again (except used figures so they don't get any money from me) and after I some day used off those points I will also never buy via Solaris Japan again. I cancelled the Sesshomaru I preordered on an other site with the explanation of what happened. Beware.

    • @jyusatsu
      @jyusatsu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Popup Parade figures are really a hit or miss and too bad you got a bad copy. I own a few PUP figures for chars from FairyTail, FMA, KonoSuba, etc. and I'd say I got quite lucky with mine with a very minimal flaws. I heard other story like yours that recent new PUP figures' quality dropped hard. PUP are not perfect figures in anyway given how affordable they are but still coming from GSC with good reputation on quality, it's disappointing. I also ordered Inuyasha but I haven't ship him yet so I don't how he would turn out so cross fingers. Hope that won't happen to you again and happy collecting.

    • @riosqaartworks
      @riosqaartworks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jyusatsu Yeah... I knew that the quality was hit or miss, but I never thought they would send out figures with that bad quality and especially that they would not offer a refund or a replacement. I will stick to Bandai, Banpresto, Furyu etc. from now on for price figures.
      Fingers crossed yours will be ok. Thank you for your comment.

    In the next attempt at printing a base, it may just be better to buy a good quality printer...then you shouldn't need to do multiple tries at it. Sometimes the cheap printers will not print topnotch quality products, even tho you definitely have a topnotch design for the base. Great job on that, it would be so much cooler if you added paint to it and made it really stand out.

    I don't know how I feel about you thinking that crossing out, so to speak, the bar code does anything.... For starters, most scan only takes a "line" in, so if nothing else, you leaving the top uninterrupted nullifies your whole effort. Barring that, as long as the thickness of the line and gap can be told somehow, it can be reconstructed.
    If you want to invalid the barcode, you need to black out, completely, about a quarter of it, preferably on the right side. Or.. tape over it with non-clear tape.
