  • Here are 5 tricks to speed up your fingers on the flute. But actually, four of them are more like flute technique TIPS and one of them is a brain trick which certainly tricks MY fingers into going faster!
    Enjoy! Jane xx

    Nice tricks, thank you Jane!
I find that a cool way to "solve" a tricky part of a song you´re struggling with is to play that bit backwards! and repeat this a few times over and over again. Then go back to the sheet and play it as it is. And pufff, magically, problem solved...
I have nooo idea why this works (let´s say neuromuscularly), but since my flute teacher taught it to me years and years ago, I´ve been using it and it reaaaaly works for me. Maybe you´ll find it useful too. Thanks for the tips I love your channel 😊👍

Hi Eugenia, yes I totally love that trick as well. In fact, it's one of the practising techniques I teach students in my flute academy! (www.flute.school/academy) It's SO effective isn't it!!

@@JaneFluteSchool yes!! For some reason I don't really understand but it sure works. I'd like to join your academy a soon as I can but I'm still too busy with work 😒

@Eugenia Levy I'm late but maybe it's because you'll have a better grasp about what notes come next?

I was hoping for a Tip #6 to address my particular speed problem. I have a piece that begins with a glissando from C4 to F6. Even at fairly slow speeds, the duration of my notes are uneven, creating a sloppy scale. *_It feels as if some fingers are rubber-banded to adjacent fingers,_* pulling them off their respective keys prematurely.
    Do you have any suggestions?

      Hi David,
Try and keep your fingers really close to the keys to help the transitions between notes smoother. You can also try changing up the rhythm of the run to help you find where the tricky spots are. Hope this helps! 😊

@@JaneFluteSchool Thank you Jane. That helps.
Another thing that helped me was patience -- playing that gliss as a slow-motion scale, only as fast as I could do it error-free. Over two weeks or so, it picked up speed without my developing muscle memory of playing it incorrectly. I even used a metronome for a couple of days.

I can finger a little fast but I can’t like blow at the same time. What do I do?

    • @JaneFluteSchool
      @JaneFluteSchool  ปีที่แล้ว

I would practise everything slowly, until it feels more confident, before you increase the tempo. 😀

@@JaneFluteSchool I got a audition in about 2 month. I’m a 9th grader and I’m trying to play the badlnerie by Bach and I can not seem to get the hang of the 16th notes. I’m worried. The fingerings are akward too 😭

Sadly, I find that the tightness starts in my fingers and, from there, spreads throughout my body and beyond, eventually paralyzing everyone in the entire neighborhood. You wouldn't believe the complaints I get.

Oh no! Maybe you can find an alternative space to practice in? All the best with your flute playing! 😀
