This is actually the one time this show is actually LIGHTER than the original, as the first Darkwing Duck show made no bones about Gosalyn's grandfather simply being murdered by Taurus Bulba.
I feel like there could be a potential plot in the darkling duck show that's coming out if it does turn out to be a spin-off of DuckTales. But in regards to this episode it was so that Goslin was forced to decide between her Grandpa and the universe
I just realized why Dewey was so interested in the smoke bombs! It's because Ben Schwartz also played Randy Cunningham, 9th Grade Ninja, whose signature gadget was smoke bombs! I LOVE THE REFERENCE!!!
This is one of the most thematically tight episodes in the whole show- it sets up a debate between which is better, fantasy or reality, and then gives every player with dialogue a place on that spectrum of ideas. Just really smartly written.

Zan Owlson is actually based on one of the producers on the show, Zan Olson. She had a tendency to reign in some of Frank's more insane ideas during writing meetings, so they wrote her in as a foil for glomgold.
I can tell Ben Schwartz must’ve had a lot of fun having Dewey yell out smoke bomb, considering that’s a literally one of the many catchphrases of another Disney character that he voiced, Randy Cunningham the 9th Grade Ninja (an unfortunately underrated show that ended after two seasons and on a cliffhanger, which makes me sad)
Backdoor pilots aren't always direct spin offs. They present the idea to the audience/network, the final show is often very different or completely unrelated to the original episode.
Owlson is so good she is the mayor we need no nonsense person I like her especially her quitting scene also gosalyn must be protect and needs to be in more episodes
Love this episode. Owlson's the best mayor I've ever seen in a cartoon. Usually, they're incompetent or greedy, but she took care of all the crime in Saint Canard.^^
Honestly, Owlson becoming mayor is such a nice surprise. Sure, she could have become anouther treasure hunting billionaire like the others (I have full faith in her ability to pull it off) but instead she did the smart thing and made an actual difference by making St. Canard a better place to live. The world isn't good enough for Owlson. Bradford's been outed and the family is now aware they're dealing with F.O.W.L. neither side has a reason to hold back now.

Also few things , at 15:20 Gosalyn was humming Little Girl Blue which was sung in the original DWD, 2 Sam King who is one of the crew members ships DrakePad cause Launchpad and Darkwing hooded hands after Darkwing saves Gosalyn,and 3 in the original DWD Drake/Darkwing adopts Gosalyn
The "Sea Monster ate my ice cream" was a famous temper tantrum/nervous breakdown Scrooge had in classic Ducktales. The second Dewey got a hold of the smoke bombs, every fan who watched RC9GN (me included) started screaming. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but it was a nice reference to RC9GN since Ben Schwartz voiced the main character from that show.
One of my favorite references to the original show, the mnemonic color song original Gosalyn's grandpa used as the arming code for their RamRod is played as part of the theme in the flashback, as well as her humming it when she tucks in DW as a reversal of one of their originals' first interactions when DW sang it as a lullaby when tucking Gosalyn in.
Owlson is the probably the most sane person in the world. Instead of plotting against Scrooge she works with him but decide to get not be in the stoplight and GET SHIT DONE without being involve of Scrooge but I love how nonchalant of a reaction she get when it comes being surrounded by the craziness of Scrooge and his family

Well, it was already hard to juggle between Three major Darkwing villains (As in Taurus Bulba, FOWL and The fearsome four)....and we know how much Negaduck would want to hog the spotlight fo himself so...
I love Wanda too. Fun fact, the lady who voices Wanda is the same who voices Gandra Dee. Which is funny because it's indicated that Fenton created the gadgets for Drake meaning he made Wanda too, and Wanda behaves the same way Gandra would. It's a small head canon Fenton created Wanda with Gandra as his inspiration.

I've been a Darkwing Duck fan since 3rd grade and this episode gets my stamp of approval. Darkwing really feels like Darkwing even without Jim Cummings, Gosalyn feels like Gosalyn (but a little less 90s) and I'm not too nostalgia-blind to say it's actually a lot more entertaining than Darkly Dawns the Duck.

First off, if you loved this, you need to (re)watch the original Darkwing Duck. It is so cool and hilarious and dangerous! Second, Owlson is the best non-main character in the entire show! Everything she has done, she has done through hard work of her own. And considering she had to put up with Glomgold, she more than deserves to be mayor. The woman should be president! Her first law would be "Anyone named Flintheart Glomgold who makes dumb schemes to destroy Scrooge McDuck has to pay a very large fine and needs to see a therapist".
it was great to see Owlson back, its a shame we didn't see her working for Scrooge as he would be much better than glomgold and louie, if there is a spin-off, hope we see more of her
