l could not agree more with all your comments about the greatest racehorse that graced the racetrack in Australia ever. This horse was simply a freak of nature and does not deserve to be forgotten.

Of the first 9 horses to earn 10 million dollars in prize money. 8 were descended from Carbine

The runner up to Carbine in the 1890 Melbourne Cup was Highborn..Carbine carried 53 lb more and beat him by three lengths, Highborn went on to win an Australian Cup and Sydney Cup...carrying 42lb more than the limit.giving the runner up 12lb..highborn was sold to India where he met some good horses from Great britian..he won the Viceroy cup two years running and was considered one of the best horses to race in them days..If Timeform was around in them days Carbine would at least be rated a 148

Carbines descendants include not only Phar Lap but Danzig, Nearco, Northern Dancer, Mr. Prospector, Nasrullah, Nijinsky II to name only a few and rates as one of the greatest sires

Nice, so indeed via Nasrullah Carbine's bloodline flows through to the GOAT: Secretariat.

3.28 for two miles with 66 kg is amazing. Have to have been a threat to the current race record with 10 kilos less weight.

Highborn carried 92lb..Carbine 145..92 plus 3lb x 3 Length x 53lb = 148..he ran 3.28 in 1890..Makybe Diva ran 3.29 in one of her wins..the tracks was far rougher and slower in them days...along with the steel hoofs they wore..Carbines time Vindicated the class of the field..it was a very strong field.AS I mentioned the lightweight Highborn went on to be a world class horse!

Bucko I was wondering what's your over all opinion of Frankel?

Carbine ran 3520 yards lumping 66 kg in 3 mins 28 secs. Makybe Diva ran 3200 metres in 3 mins 29 secs with less weight, as a mare should. 3200 metres is 18.7 metres less distance than what Carbine ran. Also Kiwi would have cleaned up in his last Melbourne Cup if the extra 18.7 metres were run. That’s called ‘sour grapes’ I know. But I’m just saying it for the record. Carbine would have been faster over the shorter distance.
