PTA really screwed up not casting Adam Sandler as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood
He tried. Sandler found the script, “shallow and mainstream”.
@@seaoftranquility7228 Yes indeed,shallow and pedantic.
Sandler insisted Plainview be given a love interest played by Drew Barrymore and that his son be played by David Spade. Bold choices but it just didn't work with the timing.
@@tryingtotryistrying Sandler also had a clause that Rob Schneider have substantial screen time. He suggested the character of a ditzy new baker for the town to provide the aforementioned 'loaf of bread'. Schneider played the audition with a comical Polish accent and it fell flat.
Punch drunk love is a great film and terrific performance by Sandler.
PTA's impression of Tarantino are so good its hard to believe
That Quentin story lol
I love your videos. It's filmmakers' opinions on other filmmakers.
Having the sniff in audio match Sandler sniffing the flowers..... Beautiful ❤
PTA nailed the character study for Adam Sandler (Barry) in Punch Drunk Love. Such a good movie.
3:30 that's GOD TIER editing right there
And the dog talking at 3:20
If you don't like Sandler because of what he's done in the past, try Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems. Very different performances than his own movies
AND the meyerwitz stories on Netflix!!
Punch Drunk Love and uncut Gems where the 2 films that change my opinion on Adam Sandler's career.
Reign over me remains his strongest work. He makes you cry which is a feat in itself.
@@larryhader5695 +1 on the meyerwitz stories. One of the best Noah Baumbach films.
It’s crazy how both movies produce so much anxiety
I like Big Daddy and the Wedding Singer
Do you have any audio of PTA hating fight club? haha
I think PTA is engaging in American-Psycho levels of irony.
Not at all
"buddy, buddy, that's not what we're planning on doing" hahahahahah
Little nicky is his most underrated movie
Big Daddy gets a bit cornball, but I totally see what PTA is saying. It was his most polished film at that point and it did want viewers to see Sandler in a both that same manchild light while also showing growth. It's not a GREAT movie, but I can absolutely see why he says he was into it as a form of career progression. We boxed a lot of comedians into one genre in the 90s without giving them wiggle room to become something else. The Cable Guy comes to mind, almost killing Jim Carrey's career, despite being an excellently creepy performance mixed with his usual flare.
Also, the overlay of Paul sniffling on Little Nicky smelling the flowers is brilliant lol.
Cool channel :)
Billy Madison is my favorite 😆
Sandler's best movies
Billy Madison
Happy Gilmore
Wedding Singer
The Waterboy
Wedding singer and Zohan are legitimately hilarious films. Sadly he has done too much horseshit but its more the projects he chooses,he can be very funny.
Happy Gilmore and Wedding Singer are probably my two favorite comedies from him.
So is ‘That’s My Boy.’ The guy who created Happy Endings wrote it.
C'mon man. Wedding Singer was his best comedy. Uncut Gems is his best performance
Wedding Singer, dude
I only like Little Nicky
That movie is a part of our childhood...so nostalgic. Hugely awful, but very funny
Funny People is Sander's best
Very underrated
This is like listening to Picasso critiquing crayon drawings from a 5 year old.
Mozart composed his first piece of music at 5 years old.
In crayon.@@ElMoShApPiNeSs
This is like reading a comment by an absolutely nobody listening to Picasso critiquing crayon drawings from a 5 year old
... And actually loving those crayon drawings and fanboying them. Lol.
Absolutely, but some folks just gotta kiss Sandler's a$$ and pretend he's amazing, even though it doesn't matter.
gotta love seeing all the pseuds' brains short circuiting from hearing that the "acceptable" echo chamber opinion of sandler being trash isnt held by other competent film makers.
I have similar taste. Watched Happy Gilmore and laughed throughout. Billy Madison was just dumb. Big Daddy, 50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer. Seemed like every other film was garbage, balanced by the greatness of the others.
I've never been so confused in my life as a film lover, to hear from one of our best living filmmakers that he adores "BIG DADDY" to the point of studying every scene like Orson Welles did "Stagecoach." Truly baffling.
Sandler I agree is very talented (and I loved "Punch Drunk Love"), but damn.... most of his movies are embarrassingly awful.
That’s the problem. Some are but honestly some are fucking hilarious. It takes balls for a great film maker to actually say what he thinks.
Baffling.. OR, you greatly overestimate PTA
@@DexxxxT he’s not even one of my favorites. I just don’t see a problem with liking Big Daddy. It’s not nearly as bad as if he said he did this with a marvel movie.
@@mellifont96 You think he watches the Leslie Mann scenes with a boyish grin just waiting for Sandler to say "Hooters" :::snicker::: for the umpteenth time? 🙄
@@jodi2847 maybe but I like Adam Sandler movies. I also like Lynch and Kubrick but Sandler has made some funny movies.
Sandler’s best is The Wedding Singer, but his funniest is Billy Madison
I found Billy Madison a bit weak. It was like he was warming up to film work. You could see what he had in him but the script was a bit lacking. I think the film that made me laugh the most was the Waterboy
@@chrisbirch4150 that’s kind of what I’m saying, Billy Madison wasn’t his best movie, but it was his first, and I believe most pure representative of his humor at that time. Was like he didn’t really care about the writing and just put in the funniest bits he could think of. Hilarious to me, though definitely not his most mature work 😅
now he mostly makes shit nepotism movies so his family can be in the actors guild & receive insurance
I absolutely hate Adam Sandler
godless minions
Sandler's never been handsome, nor will ever be, but nice but-kissing by PTA!
I cannot abide Adam Sandler, sorry.
The dude abides
Have you actually seen “Punch-Drunk Love”, “Uncut Gems”, “The Meyerowitz Stories”, and “Reign Over Me?”
Or did you just ignore those films and write Sandler off as garbage because he’s been in a lot of shitty comedies?
@@caflagel His crap is so crappy that I can't even bring myself to appreciate those films.
You do not sanction his buffoonery, just like Tommy Lee Jones
@@bosshadowrockWow. How ignorant of you.
