F1 Old Monza (Road + Oval) Hotlap | Charles Leclerc Onboard | 2020 Italian Grand Prix

  • Here's an F1 onboard lap going around the old Monza layout which included the road and oval layouts, going around the track with Charles Leclerc in his F1 2020 Ferrari SF1000.
    This layout was only used 4 times to host the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix I believe, and despite being a classic track, I gotta say that I much prefer the new layout which includes chicanes.
    This version of the track is far too easy with a modern F1 car, where I was flat out for about 95% of the circuit.

    Maybe one day they can replace that concrete banking with new, modern tarmac banking on solid bedrock and have it used for the Italian GP with a chicane before the second banking. When they built that current banking in 1954-1955 there were already tarmac banked corners on tracks in America. That banking is honestly a disgrace- the original 1920's banking was not nearly as high and spectacular as that. The cars back in the day stopped racing there after 1957 and 1962 because of the mechanical toll that banking was taking on the cars, and when F1 tried racing on the banking again for the 1963 Italian GP the drivers were ready to walk out if the organizers didn't agree to use the road circuit only. The quality of the banking was so bad that it had a mechanical toll that was honestly unnecessary if they had built that banking like the ones at Indianapolis, Daytona or any other American oval.

    • @gufo_tave
      @gufo_tave 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Frankly speaking, oval racing is more populare in the USA, than in Europe. A rebuilt Hagh speed track would be useless, IMHO

    No chicanes, just pedal to the metal. When we consider how insane the 1960s were, with long, dangerous tracks like the original Monza, Spa-Francorchamps, Nurburgring, and cars with 3 liter engines, tubular aluminum chassies, aluminum gas tanks, skinny threaded tyres, drivers wearing open face helmets, cotton suits, and no seatbelts! F1 today has many merits, beginning with safety, truly amazing TV coverage, and great young talent, but two things bug me, that is; it became a bit pasteurized, with cars looking so similar to one another (I loved the early 1970s when aero design varied like crazy from team to team), and so many tracks becoming a bit bland (Spa, Suzuka, Zanvoort, and Silverstone don't fit this category), anyways, it is what it is.
    You guys should do Hamilton on a hot lap around the original 8 km long Interlagos circuit, the track both Ronnie Peterson and Gilles Villeneuved claimed to be their favourite.

    • @DrSabot-A
      @DrSabot-A 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because it's nostalgia and modern cars never ran on Old Monza or Old Hockenheim, so their speculation is based solely on experience with older cars. With the old cars, despite being 90% on the throttle throughout the track they'd still have competition and fights because they dont reach 350km/h as easy as modern cars.
      It's the same case with Nascar aswell, with barely any turns and more than 30 cars on track who go 100% on the throttle all the way with minor lifting, you just cant not have any action.

    Game footage is fun but it's really kind of sterile. It's easy to spot if you've done any work in 3D software. If you want to see some truly spectacular Monza footage that is 100% real see the 1966 film "Grand Prix". The 'racing' is staged but the driving is completely real. No CGI in 1966. They're driving Formula 2 cars, but still, you get to see what real open-wheel race cars do on this circuit at speed. The footage from the banked sections is jaw-dropping. James Garner was the only cast member in the movie who did all his own driving. Interesting fact, Phil Hill won his 1961 world championship on this course. John Frankenheimer hired him to drive the camera car (a modified Ford GT40) to film sequences for "Grand Prix" on this track and several others. (including Nurburgring, but the footage from the ring was the focus of a court dispute between Frankenheimer and the producers of the film "Le Mans" and was ordered to be surrendered to the court and thus never ended up in the final edit)

    Was this on a PC? Thinking about getting rid of my Xbox series x and getting a pc if it’s the only way to play games like F1 2020 that aren’t available in the Microsoft store anymore, and other more hardcore sim racing games are PC only

    I generally think I’m a decent driver. And that you could put me at most tracks in a decent car and I would do fine…. But I would die at this track with this layout for sure. I don’t even know what banking that steep feels like 😅

    NASCAR Should be able to race on the oval. it is high like Daytona and Talladega. they should also use the road course and oval together for the road course race. it is best for NASCAR to race at monza roval

    Wait this is a game, i thougt it was real footage. After whatching the 2020 lap pov, i rewatched this one to see the differences, and the first thing i saw was the pitlane lacked buildings and only then realised it was fake, game graphics have come very far if it can trick people this easily in thinking its real

    I can hardly believe that this track actually took real races. If a car goes off track in the banking, it would start flying like a plane and land in the nearby city.

    No way to charge the battery on this great track without any chicane and most of the time full throttle! So here you´d see the nonsense of the hybrid power units.
