Texas Rangers trade Nathaniel Lowe to Nationals for Robert Garcia. Is Joc Pederson his replacement?

- The Texas Rangers traded 1B Nathaniel Lowe to the Washington Nationals in exchange for lefty reliever Robert Garcia. After the Jake Burger trade Lowe's time in Texas seemed to be almost over, but moving on from Lowe opens up a hole in the Rangers' lineup.
Joc Pederson has been heavily linked to Texas recently and would give the Rangers an offensive upgrade over Lowe. Garcia is a changeup specialist with great advanced stats who could play a big role in Texas' bullpen.

Since May 7th his era was 3.70 it’s incredible how many “fans” question CY a proven winner. Fan since 2010? Try since 1987.
Ouch, as a Rangers fan, this hurts. I will most certainly miss Nate Lowe, that guy was the only person that has a patient approach, so hopefully, we can replace his production at 1st.

Oof this hits hard, though I liked Garcia's numbers under the cover, this is still more about lowering the salary, right move, but sure this is not popular among us fans.

There's definitely no lowering of the salary happening this off-season.
@@M4sterT3ch I'll take it as paying an extra few mil and DH flexibility for a slight upgrade on a bat, and a potentially quality reliever, though it would require Joc to replicate this year's number to qualify as an upgrade, and yes, Lowe would still be remembered for what he did.

Fan of another team here: I have to say that I was the most shocked to see this trade. Honestly, who would want to trade Nate Lowe? Whenever he would come up to bat against my team, I would just say, “Oh no, here we go.” First impression is that it’s a big L for the Rangers, with much respect to Bochy and the gang.
I started following Rangers, well sports at all, a few months into the 2023 season, this feels like my first loss of an everyday starter... it doesn't feel good...
Also... man, a very very aggressive lineup...

I'm beginning to doubt Chris Young . Trading away a good player for some average reliever doesn't seem like a good deal. Plus they still don't have a quality closer yet.
The front office wants to stay below the $241M competitive balance tax threshold, before this trade we sat at close to $215M and after the trade we are at about $205M in CBT payroll. That gives Chris Young $30-35M to spend on getting an elite reliver and another bat. That is enough to get a Joc Pederson + Tanner Scott.
He was told to cut salary. His hands are tied.

The Astros got worse so the Ranger decided to do the same? Why not keep both and put burger at DH? I get burger hits tanks but he Def is bad. This is a downgrade at 1B. Why? Why? Why?
anybody saying they questioning CY needs to relax. when your boss says you HAVE to get below the tax line. you have to lose somebody especially if you need to add arms. he is making over 10M maybe more bc of arbitration so i rather have CY use that money to add a quality arm in the pen. they got burger for less than a million a year. Also if i was the rangers i would consider jung play part time 1b it will help him stay healthy and use smith/duran at 3rd to keep their bat in the lineup. but i am CERTAIN that CY has a plan. he is to smart to just cut payroll without a plan. fyi please dont say i rather trade taveras instead of lowe. taveras i pretty sure only makes less than 2M
Understood but he's a gold Glover and a silver Slugger and you got trash back so I mean... Is it really worth taking away that consistent player in the lineup who never seems to be hurt?
We are a year removed from winning it all we need to act like it. They were OK with signing Evo AND freid, but yet they can't stomach paying Lowe? Doesn't make sense
@@GuyerbassistBy your logic, they should sign everyone. They CAN’T. If you wanna criticize ownership or the TV deal fine, but you can’t criticize CY. His hands are tied. Someone had to go. This team isn’t winning anything without some bullpen arms and another solid bat. Now they have money to do so. It hurts to lose Lowe, but let’s see what they do with that extra $10 million before giving the final grade.
@BassYakCam not everyone.im just saying reports were that we were in on freid before he signed in new york. If that's true, then they can't claim poor. If they were poor they wouldn't have been competitive for him. At least they aren't as bad as the garbage Cleveland is doing... But then again this reeks just like the cle trade last night. People here in cle are pissed. Both these teams have such potential but they wanna pass around the offering plate for donations
Maybe it's not cy fault but somone needs to remember how we got that world series. Yea it was alot of home grown but we signed and traded taking on extra salary to put it over the top...
@@Guyerbassist They were after Fried because they probably knew they were going to shed salary elsewhere. They are not claiming poor. They are in top 10, close to top 5 in payroll. Ray Davis told CY to stay under the tax threshold, so he is. It’s that simple. You don’t need to over complicate it. He’s trying to field the best overall roster for under $241 million. However that may look. Now it DOES suck that we aren’t making enough money right after the World Series that our 83 year old owner doesn’t want to pay luxury tax.

I wish he’d play 2nd base. It will never happen. But the fact is, Marcus Semien has been a BAD offensive player in 2 of 3 years here. I know he plays great defense. But good offense is far more valuable.
