I had a black Pekin rooster he was quiet I remember thinking to myself one day that I reckon I only heard him crow about 4 times that day He was lovely.....He didn't attack a baby chick that wasn't his although he eye-balled it.

The hens are the same lavender and the Cockerell is Black / green like a blue bottle fly. Used to have a lavender male but fox got him. I have just the four.

Alex's Animal Channel how old are they? Hazard a guess just a yesr to over a year and a half. I have owned other breeds. Silkies, polish bantam, Black Minorcas, plus the standard breeds like back rock, marron and Suffolk. There are others I have owned but I forget the names. Pekins are my fave tasty eggs easy to train. The Cockerell of yours is caring and protective. In the summer time keep an eye on mites and lice. The feathers are so full they love the heat. I used a pigeon anti mite drops. One under each wing one drop above the combe or just behind and one drop on the rear not to close to the vent. Not very often once done. Twice I do over the summer. Keep an eye on the scales and just keep them as clean as possable. I got my hens in not too bad state but took time to get them in nice condition.

Thank you very much for the info! Unfortunately I had to pass these two on, but I will definitely be getting some in the future. Thanks again :)

Alex's Animal Channel no worries owned looked after chickens since 1991 :) and pekin chickens are my fave. Not too flighty if you do ever come across pekins that are flighty techy most likely inbred. If I get a Cockerell I will move them on from the brood. Just keep in mind the Jean pool. One of the most obvious is on a dark feathered Cockerell look out for white feathers somtimes a sign in inbreeding. Difficult if they are white lol then that's when charecter, noise squawking at the slightest thing is a tell tail. Were they from the same brood hatching? Or bro and sister? Not a disaster if so but I would not let them have chicks. In future if this does happen keep the hens replace the Cockerell or vice versa.

That's why that style of legs (feathers on them) is called a "booted" breed..
