Hal turned out to be my favorite character from Being Human. He was so complex and had so many different layers to him. When Mitchell died, I was worried about the show carrying on, but Hal was terrific. A 500 year old vampire with O.C.D.... that was hilarious. He was smart, funny, sexy, shy, compassionate, and also very deadly.... everything a vampire should be.
+FunkyFresh Diva Annie and George were my favourites in that order. But Hal was a better character than Mitchell.

In my opinion, Hal was the most interesting character in the series. I loved them all, but he was the best.

Totally agree with you! Too bad the series kind of went downhill in season 5, but that is not because of Hal.
It’s 2018 and I’m still not over Hal or being human
It's 2019, and I don't think I'll ever get over Hal or this show.
I wish people would listen when fans ask for something to come back.

Damian Molony is such a brilliant actor. The way he is able to switch from OCD, repressed Hal to charismatic, evil Hal is wonderful.
They should make a series about Hals life, I would watch it 💯%

Hal (Damien) is one of the best actors I have seen.
Amazing, I love this! I can't believe I've only just found these prequels. Hal became my favourite character as soon as he showed up. I mean, I loved the original trio as well, but Hal is such a great character - both funny and serious, filled with complex and contrasting qualities. I loved his paradoxes and struggles.
Hal ❤️ He ended up being my favourite. I mourned the original characters but Hal and his complexities kept me watching. The actor did a great job with the character.
Out of all the prequels, this is probably my favourite. Both actors are incredibly good in this, that I seriously wouldn't mind if they did more Hal flashback with Leo in it.
Didn't think ANYONE could replace Mitchell, but somehow, the writers has got me smitten with Hal!
I know BH ended a while ago, but I wish they'd do a spin off on Hal, Leo and Pearl. The first episode could even take place from where this scene left off.
See, this is where Leo and Hal connect. They both hate what they are: Leo hates being a werewolf, because he has no control over his condition and has likely killed people even before he was captured. As for Hal, he's a good person deep down (think about it, why else would he try to redeem himself), and has been a vampire for 441 years at this point (he's seen and caused a lot of terrible things in his time), so he wants to be free from his Bad Hal persona once and for all. They both want to be freed of their respective afflictions, and that's what they have in common
Man, I really want to know who played Leo in this scene. I looked on the Being Human wiki and it only mentions the actor who played the old Leo. It's crap that he's uncredited, because he really looks and acts the part well. He's very believable

I think it's a credit to Damien Molony's acting ability that you can hear the pain in his voice when he talks about the army surgeon, the depth of despair he was at in the moment he was offered. It makes me cringe every time. I can't believe this guy is fresh out of acting school; he's brilliant!
I love the part when he says 'I think you don't want to be you either' and Hal stops but he doesn't walk away, he doesn't decide to bury that thought deep enough so he doesn't have to deal with the truth again, he replies. He faces the truth with a half assed reply that they both know isn't true, because he wants a way out. He needs a way out but just doesn't know how to ask for it.
Aidan Turner, Damian Molony, so handsome and both Irish. That is it, I'm moving there.
I like Hal better than Mitchell, he has so much depth to his character and a conflicted history

I love being human and i've watched every episode that's out and i think Hal's character is awesome :D He's mysterious but very shy with others which people can relate to including me :P
i reckon hal is a lot more eviler than Mitchell because hal is feared by most of the older ones and Mitchell they think is just another vamp

I think you are right, but to a much longer extent than you seem to realize. Mitchells past "evil days" sound like a teenage (vampire) party. drinking, fucking, killing, and spilling blood all across the uk. Hal is like a 40 year old mob boss who hasn't aged a day. Probably not one city, town, or village he hasn't killed in. He was happily cruel, seemed to even take joy in antagonizing, killing, and controlling ... well everything and everyone. Mitchell would probably be more scared of hal than he was of winchell (assuming Mitchel didn't know Hal was on the wagon).

Yeah, he seems to be a more disciplined and easy going character than Mitchell. That was Mitchell's biggest weakness: He gave into his urges, temptations etc. Hal is stronger willed, he knows all the tricks and trades of being a vampire (he's lived with it for hundreds of years), so he knows what to do and what to avoid. Hell, even in a deleted scene, he helped Adam find new ways of fighting the bloodlust. Not only that, but he tried to help his recruit Crumb, and his recruit his recruit Alan, get clean. Also, Mitchell was only over 100 years old when he begged George to kill him, but Hal is much much older and he's desperate for a way out of his curse, but not through the easy way out (i.e assisted suicide), but the hard way. I think he clings onto the hope that one day, he will be human and therefore mortal again, able to live a life without fear of causing a mass genocide.

It would be great if we could see more of Young Leo in Series 5. I'm really hoping there will be flashback scenes where they bring back both young and old Leo.
The turning point of Hal's 400 year life as a vampire, Leo inspires Hal to be human and kind again.
Been watching being human on Netflix with my wife who has become hooked on it. Just started series 4 and her heart is broken as Mitchell is dead and now George has gone to... I keep saying to her just wait because Hal is actually better than Mitchell, but she won’t have it. I personally thought it was gonna be shit when they killed off Mitchell but credit to the creators/writers and the Actor because Hal was definitely the best character in the whole program
That always reminds me of Misfits too because they have Rudy come in for Nathan and all the original cast end up leaving

I have watched it so many times. It's one of the best acting performances I have ever seen. I think Damien (Hal) is a great actor. Young Leo is pretty good too.

filmed six years later, they'd be worried about Leo, the geriatric werewolf, being deported to the Caribbean like so many in the Windrush Generation and turning/dying en route...

Hal is phenomenal- particularly in this scene, and Leo matches him step for step. I would have loved to have seen more of Leo as he was when he and Hal and Pearl lived together.
I love that vampires don't scare him, werewolves definitely don't scare him but he's
terrified when it comes to talking to pretty girls (Alex)
I loved leo and hals other 'family' just as much as tom,hal, annie, mitchel and george... Didn't really give a damn about alex or nina though..

i know but they couldn't help that the actors wanted to leave. i ended up loving the new characters tho. i'm ok with letting go of the originals knowing they got their endings (assuming at the end of series 4, all they were all reunited off screen).

But the show was about vampire mitchell, werewolf george and ghost annie and they're all dead and they still make the show without the originals and ( in my opinion) the best actors in being human.
Nina's off-screen departure was awkward and anticlimactic in a way. What contractual obligation or other elsewhere did Sinead Keenan have that didn't allow her the chance to stick around for one last episode to offer the audience some closure like they did with George?

+jb weeda No. This is 1955, where Hal meets Leo for the first time (well, probably several times actually). After this clip, Hal saves Leo, and they both leave the Old Ones. This is where Hal's almost 60 year abstinence of blood begins.
