I like him so much better than Mitchell. We've seen enough of the pointy-nosed, white faced, black-haired moodybroody vampires that Hollywood has been spitting out since just after the dinosaurs died. Hal is a breath of fresh air, with his OCD and his.... differentness.
SimplySadie Yep, he brought something new and unique to the table. The fact that he is so old makes his background a lot more interesting, and also the fact that he struggles against an evil personality makes him quite tragic in a way, even more so than Mitchell. In way, maybe Mitchell is worse than Hal, because he was clean of blood for a number of years, but relapsed again and again, until eventually, in a moment of clarity, he begged George to kill him. Had he survived to Hal's age (or maybe even a bit younger) he might have stayed bad for good and killed far more people than Hal did. Though it does seem that despite his problems, Hal is much stronger character than Mitchell, holding on to the hope that one day he can be rid of his dark side and possibly be cured of his curse one day, grow old and finally achieve the peace he has long sought after many hundreds of years of murder, genocide and suffering (this is reflected in the extra scene after the Last Broadcast, where the three realise that they've been tricked by the Devil once again. He says "I was gonna die one day", in a rather disappointed voice).
Yep I'm a bit late, but I finally got around to watching this on Iplayer. When the cast changed I just ditched the show, but it was a big mistake, because the new cast were just as good but in different ways. Would love if they bring the show back with a different cast. Same concept but in a different city.
I couldn't agree more! I came late to watching this show coz I never realized the U.S. version is based on the UK. These characters were phenomenal but Lord Hal has been a dream character that has been immortalized now in Damien's performance and a real culmination of vampires in all forms of entertainment! A Jekyll and Hyde type vibe with the heartbreak of someone like Louis from Intereview with the Vampire was just astonishing to watch! The conflict he brought to life brought more years than from poor George in the earlier seasons and like Damien says in this interview, I could watch Hal another 519 years! Sexiest vampire ever! *clapping wildly!*
At first I thought he was 523 (seeing as series 5 was in 2013), but as Damien says that Hal is 519, that would make it so he was born in 1494, so as the Battle of Orsha was in 1514, he would have been only 20 years old when he was recruited. This makes him the youngest of the trio (in physical terms), as Tom was around 21, and Alex was only 22/23
I love how his normal voice seems deeper and more like "bad-Hal"... Also I like his normal Irish accent much better. He seems even more sweet and sexy!
oswinoswaldo His voice completely threw me off. I know he used a different accent to voice Hal, the Posh Boy Vampire, but he sounds completely different. If you listen carefully, there are instances were the actor's true accent slips through, but apart from that, he's got the characters' voice and mannerisms down to a T
eon001 I guess they didn't want another brooding Irish bloke as the main vampire, people would think he's too much like Mitchell. So they made him a posh git.
Thank You for posting this! Although I am sad the series is over :( I am so HAPPY he just got added to Ripper Street!!!! Something to look forward to :) This is one gorgeous Irish man! (and a terrific actor as well)
I never thought about him being the Doctor. Great idea though. Maybe the 13th Doctor. Though on that subject, I'd love to see a cameo from Paul McGann at some point. On the subject of Damien Molony's Irish accent; he sounds just like snooker player Ken Doherty.
pjsmoulder He could be the 14th Doctor one day, but if he's the next one after Capaldi, that would be brilliant. And, he would be the first Doctor with an Irish, now that would be unexpected and interesting. Think about it, nearly all of the Doctor have had some form of English accent, except for McCoy and Capaldi (who both used their own accents. Yeah, I know Tennant is Scottish, but he used a Cockney accent). Maybe it's time for Doctor Who to shake it up a bit. Like I said, and Irish Doctor incarnation would be interesting.
