I usually hate musicals. But I love this film and I adore this scene. A beautiful representation of what it feels like to fall in love. This soundtrack for me is unsurpassed.
Yeah. It was at this moment I started freaking out, getting goosebumps. All the movie till now, and all of a sudden we get this... What a freakin' masterpiece!
This scene is actually kind of inspired by and a remake of another iconic movie dance scene from 1952. The movie is called Lovely To Look At, with Marge and Gower Champion.
You know that saying people always say when you get to kiss someone you love dearly for the first time? It feels like you are flying, dancing among the stars, and being in a different world? This scene shows exactly that. You might say they didn't kiss until the end of this scene, but I think they already kissed right before his handkerchief flew up, and everything from there up until the end of the scene was just what they felt.
A wonderful scene. Almost no dialogue, hell. Almost no sound. Letting the acting, camera, and score do the talking. Just pure simple magic. What a breathtaking scene from a breathtaking film.
That's one of the amazing things about La La Land, its ability to tell the story with very little/no dialogue. You can extend a little beyond this scene into the summer montage and you get Seb and Mia falling in love and the progression of their relationship up until Keith comes in. All with very little dialogue as well. Same thing with the dream sequence at the end, I don't think a single word is said in that scene. Shows how great the direction, score, camerawork, acting, etc. are in this film
A COOL STORY - So when I was a little girl, my mom would always take my brother and I to the planetarium at the college near us. (Ocean County College in Toms River, NJ) I absolutely loved sitting near the projector and was always fascinated by the way it moved, the lights, etc. When I got older, we stopped going, especially because the projector had broken down and the college didn't do shows anymore because they needed to save up to buy a new one. Fast forward to the present, people in my town discovered that instead of being thrown out in 2008, the projector had been donated to a California museum, where it was then transferred to a movie set. Turns out Damien Chazelle chose that same projector for this scene! It was so funny because when I first saw this scene in the movie theater, I was immediately reminded of the days I had spent in the planetarium, not even knowing that Mia and Sebastian were dancing next to the projector that I used to love so much. Glad to know that a fond memory from my childhood is now part of an iconic scene in movie history. :)
I'm just going to go ahead and say it. This will go down as one of the greatest movies of all time, and most definitely one of the greatest musicals. Damien Chazelle, you are amazing.
my favourite part: 3:09 it's such a powerful moment when they start dancing among the stars and planets asdgghkl and the music omg everything about this scene is brilliant.
Let's just pretend this was the ending ... because seing it after the real ending with the reminder of this scene just hurts. These really are some of the best moments you can live.
I love how expressive this movie is. It's not afraid to be a bit obnoxious, and I am so glad they decided to be different. We would not have this absolutely, I think most people will agree, beautiful scene. The way the camera seems to be everywhere all at once and at the say time, it keeps out focus. Like man, if u don't like the movie, you cannot deny that this is not a masterpiece of a scene.
I do like the movie but I expected more in terms of its throwback nature and the story. But the two leads, the music and artistic quality make La La Land La La Land
I think this scene is really one of my best memories in a movie theater. This moment got me, I was here, crying alone just because of the beautiful intensity of this moment. Everything was perfect, pure, fine, so beautiful.
this scene was just the perfect scene in the entire movie after which i say the ending scene is a close 2nd, but what i love about this scene mostly is the dancing around the pendulum.. after which they dance with the stars... also the music gives it this whats gonna happen next feel kind of vibe, makes the audience feel curious about what is gonna happen, if the kiss was to ever be or not, and then before you know it boom, the kiss and the audience is speechless and full of joyous emotions as we see Mia and Sebastian become a couple!
We saw this again today (My 18th time) with a 60 piece live orchestra in Birmingham here in England..I love this movie so much but after today I love it even more, what a beautiful way to spend an afternoon,so perfect, just wonderful
man this has to be my favorite movie scene of all time. i cant stop coming back to this. perfect music and atmosphere, especially when they start dancing in space. always gets me.
A couple days ago this song's melody just slipped into my head out of nowhere. Didn't know why, but I just had a strong feeling that I have to listen to it at the moment. While listening to it, I got a text message that I passed a job interview from a company which I've always wanted to work at since college student. This song will forever be engraved in my mind as something miraculous.
Emma Stone is on an absolute tear right now. Not that many actresses have won two best actress Oscars and what she did tonight is pretty difficult to do. I think in the history of the Oscars this is only been done by like 15 actresses and if she wins another one it's going to shoot her up into the top three with Frances McDormand and Katherine Hepburn. After tonight it's impossible to deny that she is in the conversation for one of the greatest actresses of all time
This scene was so incredible I rewound it 3x to rewatch. Beautiful. Breathtaking. Perfect waltz! Reminds me of the waltz in sleeping beauty. Can’t believe it took me 5(?) years to watch this movie.
One of my favorite scenes in the whole movie! As much as I would want the film to end here, it doesn’t change La La Land is worth at least one view for Ryan & Emma’s chemistry, the music and the artistry! Hollywood has got to take notes from here on how to do a dance/ballet scene and make it magical!
MAGICALLY UNEXPECTED! I always picture myself on the movie theater 5 years ago and when they started flying with the music and the stars as backgrounds I COULD HELP TAKING THE BIGGEST ROMANTIC BREATH I HAVE EVER TAKEN! Beautiful does not get to describe this masterpiece! It is Just Perfect! I could watch it over and over for the rest of my life like it was the very first time and it’d keep impressing me and taken my breath away! ❤️
I was really high when I watched this movie for the first time and the second that Sebastian lifted Mia and they started dancing amidst galaxies I legitimately ascended it was such a wild thing to see

For someone who often likes darker and more difficult films, such as Apocalypse Now likely being my favorite film ever, this is one of the best films I've ever seen and probably in my Top 10, and I'm really no fan of musicals. For some reason, within the first one or two times watching this, I teared up 2 to 3 times at different times throughout it, and it's by no means necessarily a sad film. It's just some certain feel, and the magic and questions within it. Damien Chazelle is just unreal and the best young director today. I just had to own both this film and Whiplash on Blu-Ray.
La La land made me more of a hopeless romantic because I want someone to take me to a planetarium and dance under the stars with me, more than anything 😭
Im going on a date to a planetarium and me and my date agreed we will play this song on repeat through out the entire time i hope it turns out magical!
Perfect atmosphere. This scene really shows what it feels like to fall in love with someone else.
BO MI PARK i love it, for me it’s a metaphorical way to portray sex. But it is still great.
Atmosphere? Was that pun intentional? Either way, it was great.
Yesss
I agree.
Perfect comment
What I love most about this scene is that you can't really tell where reality ends and fantasy begins
Just like the perfect date
Shaylee O'Loughlin it s a metaphor for sex
Well ... when she suddenly starts flying you could say reality has ended 😄
@@MimMdance maybe it has ended before, you can’t say it for sure
This is exactly what I felt too. 👌🏻
I love how Lalaland shows the "how does it feel" instead of "how does it look like"
Ok
That's accurate. 👍
I agree.
مدينة الأوهام
YES!! That's exactly why I love the film so much 🥺
OMG UR ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!
La La Land is going to become one of the greatest movies of all time. So beautifully acted and directed...and what a score.
It is the best film in cinema
I usually hate musicals. But I love this film and I adore this scene. A beautiful representation of what it feels like to fall in love. This soundtrack for me is unsurpassed.
I prefer musicals on stage a bit more! One movie you should watch next is The Greatest Showman
3:10 Best part of the whole piece. The emotion, the swells, the strings. Pure gold.
Yess
Yeah. It was at this moment I started freaking out, getting goosebumps. All the movie till now, and all of a sudden we get this... What a freakin' masterpiece!
I absolutely agree with this. 💯💯💯
I love the silhouettes dancing in space, it's just beautiful imagery.
I AGREE
In the future, this will be remembered as one of the best scenes in movie history. Mark my words.
Alf this is actually a remake of an iconic movie dance scene with Marge and Gower Champion in Lovely To Look At (1952)

Thanks for the info. I just learned that even Lovely To Look At was a remake of another movie called 'ROBERTA'
I 100% agreed with you
this is already a amazing scene that cannot get out of head everytime i hear the mia and sebastian's theme
I've seen at least a thousand movies in my life and this scene will go down in history as one of the best of all time
This scene is actually kind of inspired by and a remake of another iconic movie dance scene from 1952. The movie is called Lovely To Look At, with Marge and Gower Champion.
La La Land is aldready the best film of cinema

It’s so tough to find anything like it in this day and age. I know it’s been nearly a decade since this movie came out but still
3:10 I can only imagine what it was like to watch this in a theater. Everything from the music to the visuals is amazing
It was beyond amazing, I couldn't believe my eyes, I had the biggest smile ever, my favorite movie of all time!!!💖🙏💖🙏
You have no idea, it was incredible. Took my breath away
Yeah it was pretty good. Reminiscent of Don Hertzfeldt's "The Meaning of Life".
I literally teared up as this breathtakingly gorgeous scene played on the screen...big fan of "old Hollywood " musicals
The oboe, English horn, and bassoon at the beginning are just so amazing
Jamzam don't forget the flute parts also
3:15 whats the instrument here
sounds like strings
@@flmkrp2486 yeah those are a bunch of cellos
@@jamzam9807 thanks they sound so beautiful lol it's my favourite part
la la land is not a movie.. its an art...
no man will ever make me feel the way i feel when i watch this
can second this, and i am a man
No man has the power of levitation...
@cas9856 * except Ryan Gosling
Well technically Damien Chazelle made you feel that way. So he's got you there.

katyisaladybug Wow! Amazing!
katyisaladybug awww i loved that story!
Aww that's so cool! We don't have anything like that in England 😔
Whoa that's awesome!
I think this is my favorite scene in La La Land. You can feel everything without a single word. It's pure cinematographic magic.
Pure cinema has been slowly dying since the Pandemic hit
I'm just going to go ahead and say it. This will go down as one of the greatest movies of all time, and most definitely one of the greatest musicals. Damien Chazelle, you are amazing.
The last great musical we had on the silver screen was The Greatest Showman
I love this scene
So do I.
The fact that this scene alone would make for an incredible short film or music video, is a testament to this film's incredie artistic merit.
I cried watching this scene, it's so beautiful!! When they started floating around I lost my cool completely 😍😩, lol.
Me too. Every time when they begin floating and the music soars with them.
Awww😭💖
I actually did this. I went to see this movie with my crush, and we ended up planning going to the planetarium in our city. Good times...
Joe MP did you dance in the stars cos if not i dont want to hear it
Let's just hope it doesn't end like in BoJack
I hope you two are married now lol
SAME me and my crush are going this weekend!
3:10 man that part in cinema
Kevin Aprio ikr i was crying atm
Believe me, it was great
and it still didn't win best picture....
SharpsAndFlats La La Land should have won best picture
Tell me about it
I watch this scene and I can't help but think that it should have won Best Picture.
This is an instant classic
Out of all the nominated films for Best Picture that night, I say Hidden Figures should have won. Don’t get me wrong La La Land is good but still
This movie is a present of gods. It really treasures all the beauty and all the good that resides in the man's soul. Thank you Damien for this jewel.
💖🙏
I remember watching this film in the cinema with absolutely no idea what is it about and my oh my,
what a BEAUTIFUL experience.....
I went not having any idea what it was about. May sound over dramatic but I think it changed my life
my favourite part: 3:09 it's such a powerful moment when they start dancing among the stars and planets asdgghkl and the music omg everything about this scene is brilliant.
there are no words to describe how magical watching this makes people feel
I love la la land so much, like everything in this movie is so incredible and i loooove the score so muuuch. and god knows how relatable is mia to me
I KNOW RIGHTTTT! ME TOOO!!! I wanna become an actress so bad and I relate
to Mia the most😭

This part made my whole body shiver
That trill at 1:56 is otherworldly.. goosebumps every time this score and scene is an absolute masterpiece!!!! (along with the rest of the movie lol!)
This is a perfect film...An epitome of perfect filmmaking
Let's just pretend this was the ending ... because seing it after the real ending with the reminder of this scene just hurts. These really are some of the best moments you can live.
Sometimes I want to pretend that too! Which is why I’ve only seen the movie from beginning to end twice
I love how expressive this movie is. It's not afraid to be a bit obnoxious, and I am so glad they decided to be different. Where love takes you to the stars and makes you dance all night.

I just realized after all this time at 3:02 their steps are shaky and unsure to represent the way that falling in love with a new person can be scary and nerve racking.
