Hey Phil, had been waiting on this review. My younger son still wants a 27.5. I understand the T8 you like is the 29er. If you were to chose a 27.5, would you still go with the T8 or Merida One Forty 600 or even 700.
Hey mate You do a great job. I’m wanting to upgrade from a 5 year old giant talon. Just been getting into riding again. Thinking either the D7 or T7. Pretty amature rider, so won’t be doing anything crazy. Mainly riding around Appin, single track and fire trails, sandy and rocky sort of conditions. Pretty rough most the times. Any suggestions on what way to go? Thanks in advance
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks mate! I think the D7 would serve you fine, then if you want to make it a bit more capable down the line you can always upgrade the fork. If you are doing drops etc and hitting those technical sections at decent speed, I would go a T7
I was looking at some of these bikes and will pick something up this year. On your criterion would you consider the weight of the bike? A lot of them are 15kg+ which is getting quite heavy, as mentioned someone suggest the trek fuel 7 which came in 14.1kg (the more pricey models get down to the 12kg mark). So hard to compare weight and some manufacturers don’t list it. But I think it’s reasonably important if your going for a decent days ride.
Try "chain-reaction cycles" (a British website that sells these 2 brands) worldwide shipping but I'm not sure they even do full bikes to AUS let alone the cost it would be at customs or shipping, Do santa cruz or transition etc have any shops or do YT, canyon or commencal sell direct to aus? as they can be as cheap. As for shops to buy them from you probably wont be able to, but I dont live there to say for sure. was gonna say thats shocking that a base jeffsy is 4k AUD, but the AUD to GBP says it's only 200 GBP more that's not TOO bad, still sucks though.
What is your thought on the Radon slide trail 8,0? On paper it looks like a great value build. Can’t find many reviews on it though. This or the Vitus Escarpe are most interesting to me.
Thoughts on cube stereo 140 hpc race? Seems pretty dialled for the $$$ geometry is a little dated but other wise it looks good especially with that carbon frame!
@@trailtalkmtb6603 ok cool it's just the weight of the siskiu t8 is pretty hefty (15.2kg) and I'm a light rider so I would like a nice light bike. I'm wondering what your experience with the weight is? Is it a heavy bike? Or is the listed weight wrong?
Another great list Phil, as always. The value winner seems to be a tie between the Polygon and Vitus, with the Siskiu T8 easily the best component-to-price here, and the Escarpe CR the best value CF framed bike I've seen yet (Polygon wins overall, unless you really want to try carbon). Its a crying shame the YT is so expensive in Australia, because if it was the same price as the Polygon (like it is in the US and UK) I'd probably be willing to sacrifice the slight component discrepancy for that XXL frame. Failing the YT going on sale, my choice would be the Siskiu T8, paired with a 50mm stem and 35mm riser bar.
@@Cadams7 Perhaps, but I want directly comparing the two. Rather I was pointing out that they were the two best value options on this list. The Siskiu T8 is the clear winner from a component perspective; everyone else is using Shimano Deore instead of SLX, or cheaper Rockshox/Marzocchi suspension instead of Fox. The Escarpe CR, meanwhile, is admittedly specified a little lower than the T8, but compensates with it's carbon frame. The Vitus Escarpe CR has almost identical spec to the Nukeproof Reactor Alloy Comp (Reactor has a Super Deluxe rear shock, but otherwise identical), and costs almost exactly the the same, yet features a carbon frame, which no one else offers for at least $500-1000 more.
@@Cadams7 The Marzocchi Z2 is basically a budget Foz 34 (likewise the Z1 is a budget 36), using a heavier Rail damper compared to the Grip damper in the 34. As for the SLX derailleur, the only noticeable performance difference between SLX and Deore 1x12 is weight (SLX is approximately 250g lighter), so the difference between a full Deore and Deore w/ SLX derailleur would be negligible, as almost all SLX weight saving comes from the cassette and crankset.
I’m going to buy a new bike soon. I want to buy local from a shop. $3000 to $3600 is around my budget. Which would you recommend between a Scott, giant, trek, or specialised?
What's your thought on the Trek Fuel Ex 7? I believe in Australia if you are with BUPA, you can get a 10% discount as well, so that would bring it down to $3,600. Would really love to go a T8, but the current supply crisis is rough with ETA's getting extended, now looking at different options.
There’s a lot of 2nd hand 2020 fuel ex 7 and 8 bikes in New Zealand 🇳🇿 with not much use. I think people bought them in lock down and have not used them much and are selling.
Hello. I hope you can help me. I have got a special offer for the Commencal Meta TR origin. So the cheapest one but for 1900€. Do you think that's a good idea?
Hey Phil, I bought a Focus Jam 6months or so ago, I was wondering if Focus comes into your research at all (as they are a small brand) or are their bikes just not making the cut for Value/Quality etc? Thanks Man
According to my spreadsheet it is heavy, and does not come with the 12speed micro-spline hub (only 11), so upgrading in the future will be more expensive. Also the colour for 2021 is boring. It is the same wine colour as my 70 year old Dad's Toyota Corolla. Wheelbase and Chainstay are short, so should be very playful. My analysis of the numbers.
@@jago116 35 lbs 13oz, so almost 36 lbs tubeless, per a TH-cam reviewer. I did not confirm this myself nor did I write down which TH-camr I got this from :( seems unbelievably heavy, but my Kona Blast is a 34lb or more hardtail so it is plausible. They make their bikes heavy but very tough.

Feel like the T8 and Mythique line up more so than the Escarpe, unless I’m missing something.
@@gpearce11 Mythique has an SLX derailleur at least. Is the Fox 34 a notably better fork than the Z2?
@@Cadams7 The Marzocchi Z2 is basically a budget Foz 34 (likewise the Z1 is a budget 36), using a heavier Rail damper compared to the Grip damper in the 34.
As for the SLX derailleur, the only noticeable performance difference between SLX and Deore 1x12 is weight (SLX is approximately 250g lighter), so the difference between a full Deore and Deore w/ SLX derailleur would be negligible, as almost all SLX weight saving comes from the cassette and crankset.
@@gpearce11 Awesome man. Thanks for the info.
I’m going to buy a new bike soon. I want to buy local from a shop. $3000 to $3600 is around my budget. Which would you recommend between a Scott, giant, trek, or specialised?
Giant and Specialized are the go too's in my opinion. Both have great options this year
Hey could u plz do a reviw of the 2021 merida one sixty 400 plz
Will talk about it in my enduro buyers guide :) Great bike!
@@trailtalkmtb6603 ok thank u love the vids btw great content
theres also the new calibre triple b pro in the uk
It’s a bit out of the price range criteria, but I think the Radon Slide Trail 8.0 would be a great consideration!
Good bike, but quite expensive! 💵
Agree with Marty, the discount does help but a bit $$$. Saying that at 3.6k it a good bike!
Hey did you may have forgotten about the new 29inch canyon spectral
This video was made before that bike came out. 100% would have been on the list otherwise
Hey Phil,
I bought a Focus Jam 6months or so ago, I was wondering if Focus comes into your research at all (as they are a small brand) or are their bikes just not making the cut for Value/Quality etc?
Thanks Man
Hi Daniel! Focus make some great bikes, it mainly comes down to price but being a bike shop brand you can sometimes get a steal!
new spectral 2021 should be on the list as well
Yep the 29er was just released after this video
Are you gonna do an best value enduro for 2021?
Done!
I am just curious y u didnt add trance 27.5 bike in this list
I was deciding between the canyon and the yt only going with the canyon because yt is is an extra $335(shipping/sales tax) to Canyons $99(shipping)
I found a vitus escarpe vrx 2020 online for about 2880 $ so would that be worth for budget and trail/ all mountain use?
What do you think of the trek remedy 7 / 8 ?
What you think about yt Jeffrey core 2
Polly 27.5 170 fork....ballin
someone needs toa prreciate the polygon t series
How bout the 2021 Merida ONE FORTY 600 Bike .. there Entry Level
What do you guys think of the kona process 134?
According to my spreadsheet it is heavy, and does not come with the 12speed micro-spline hub (only 11), so upgrading in the future will be more expensive. Also the colour for 2021 is boring. It is the same wine colour as my 70 year old Dad's Toyota Corolla. Wheelbase and Chainstay are short, so should be very playful. My analysis of the numbers.
@@devinbyrnes8058 good to know! Do you know approximately how heavy it is?
@@jago116 35 lbs 13oz, so almost 36 lbs tubeless, per a TH-cam reviewer. I did not confirm this myself nor did I write down which TH-camr I got this from :( seems unbelievably heavy, but my Kona Blast is a 34lb or more hardtail so it is plausible. They make their bikes heavy but very tough.
I know I’m late but you think these bikes still Available ?
Revel Racal too might be a good option for the upper tier.
A friend of mine has a Rascal and that thing rips.
