We've found 15 subtle differences between Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Switch and the original game for Nintendo 3DS. The games may look identical, except for resolution, but there's a significant number of refinements, from graphic assets to controls and UI. - เกม
Huh, I guess it really is a case of “they made it look the way we always *thought* it looked, so it doesn’t actually seem improved until you look at them side by side”

@@piercemat331 this port was developed by Tantalus Media not Next Level Games.
@@Arcad3n basically contradicting the original port like Pokemon BDSP for not developing it by Game Freak, but rather ILCA
I guess, Tantalus, kindly buff Secret Mine as mentioned in the topmost comment
@@piercemat331 lmao fair enough.
Oh dang, it’s MUCH more noticeable when side by side
but the 3ds had a small screen so it looked fine
@@savagebeastty yeah I'm one of the guys who will always defend the OG version, the 3D screen and unlocked framerate did a lot for the game
Small but important differences such as improved graphics, lighting and shadow effects, sound..
3:13 tbh I am a little disappointed that they removed the leaning back. looks better with it.
that Key counter is also a strange choice
As someone who tends to collect a bunch of keys at once, agreed. I don't always know how many keys I've got, and the counter is a nice reminder.
I don't remember from so long ago but how many keys do you typically have at any time? Does it even indicate when you've completely run out?
Key counter is top left during gameplay in the remaster, guess they figured no need to have the ugly counter ruining cutscenes
@@gaminggoose2329 ahhh
Looks better without the leaning motion. He's not reeling in a fish with a pole, just using a vacuum.
Honestly, my favorite part about the remaster is how all the audio is much clearer than less compressed than the original 3DS version. Most remasters either just redo the the SFX entirely or leave them as they were originally but Next Level Games must've just kept all the uncompressed sounds for Luigi's Mansion 2 for 11 whole years, which is really cool.
Why not include the buff for Secret Mine, Next Level Games?
- 2 new levels
- addition of Polterpup
- big exploration
The remaster was actually done by Tantalus Media (the same guys that remastered Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword) instead of Next Level Games.
The uncompressed sounds were actually used for the Arcade version, released a few years after the game. Despite being limited to only a few areas of Dark Moon, it contains the entire soundtrack in it's filesystem!
LM2 HD is what we all thought LM2 on 3DS looked like back in the day. On that tiny low resolution 3DS screen it was hard to notice the game’s low graphical quality but blown up on a big screen you can see its imperfections more clearly. Tantalus did a great job updating the game for modern day but it takes a side by side comparison like this to really appreciate how much work was put into it
“More manly hairy mustache” took me out 😂
Personally, I think they did a fantastic job with this remaster. I like how it's faithful to the original, while including several new visual enhancements and some quality of life improvements.
Great video by the way.
Yeah but it would have been better with Luigi mansion 1

@@piercemat331 the secret mine levels are so annoying idk why people would want to play them
guess this is a good example of how nostalgia goggles can make games seem more polished, here i was thinking only a few models were updated
6:59 they also fixed the luigi's animation ! As his legs were glitchy in the 3ds !
oh they were?
I have played the original since the og release and never noticed that wow haha
@@fabi3790 6:52 if you look closely, he kinda slides on the ground a bit (the legs look like they don’t stay on the ground)
@@xxsusmasterxx5491 same here, and now I don’t think I can unsee it lol
I can't believe they removed his entire pulling animation. It feels so wrong seeing Luigi in his regular standing pose while he's doing that.
Quit pretending it bothers you more than it actually does. I know you’re exaggerating on purpose.
@@Rediscool9 I'm not. It genuinely looks so wrong, and it's such a downgrade from the original. I really hope they patch it. Maybe this bothers me more than it should, but I can't exactly change that.
@@GottaBGlitches I'm with you on this one
One change that I don't like and honestly might be a bug is the Egad music (specifically when he's talking to you on call or in the lab, the original Luigi's Mansion theme) playing for a few seconds before and after the mission clear screen. It even interrupts some cutscenes like after bosses. This was not in the original and its a minor nitpick but it does annoy me.
I'm so glad someone mentioned it. I feel like it's a bug too but I've played the OG so many times and it was kinda annoying
Agree. hope they fix that
Yeah, it's been bugging me as well
THIS
Yeah, I noticed it straight away music cuts in during door unlocking cutscenes when it’s meant to be silent for suspense and the lab music cuts in between the end mission screen appearing and sounds akward when it immediately transitions to the mission clear theme and then cuts in just before the pixelator load screen before abruptly cutting off.
Thats why the Vacuum’s grab looks less impactful, that lean back was really good for showing how much effort Luigi is putting in, now he looks stiff
When using the dark light device, the icon drains smoothly on the 3DS version but it drains by sections on the Switch version.
Though I'm loyal to my 3DS version, and play it to this day, I must say this does look crisp. But there weren't any major additions, right? No lore about how the Poltergust G-00 got in the car, like how Luigi's Mansion 3DS told us about Gooigi's origin story?
nope. it's all visual stuff: models, lighting, ui, animations etc. The base game remains untouched.
Minor correction, the Poltergust in Dark Moon is the 5000 model, not the G-00
It's in the car because that's E.Gadd's car, the same car he has in Luigi's Mansion 3
@@fabriciolamana4106 I'm talking about the start of Luigi's Mansion 3, which is why I'm talking about the G-00. Seeing if this HD version gave any more backstory.
@@xinpingdonohoe3978
what more would there be to tell..?
•He had the 5000 in the car so the G-00 also being there makes sense
•He was on a ghost-based journey and even brought a portable base with him (why NOT bring your main tool when it comes to ghosts, something that he’s also been seen continuously tweaking on as well)
•He also has Gooigi with him and their container is connected with the G-00 so if he were to try anything, he’d need to do it himself or test it out since Luigi isn’t around all the time
•It’s stated in the Professor E.Gadd's Research Journal that it would be really convenient to bring Gooigi in the Pultergust as his assistant whenever catching ghosts and the G-00 was what implemented that idea (he even made it where he can switch with Gooigi and control them which would greatly help him in ghost catching since his old body is what mainly restricts him from doing it himself)
In short: he brought it in car cause he’s constantly working on it and inventions, on ghost based journey with it being his main tool, acts as Gooigi’s spawn, Luigi isn’t around to do it so he has to wear it himself, and he just places it there as seen in LM2
Luigi's Mansion 2 always looked really pretty, but this remastered is so beautiful. I really want to see A Link Between Worlds, Triforce Heroes, Samus Returns and the FE games from 3ds remastered as well.
Tri Force Heroes…meh

@@Rediscool9 Just to tell everyone about the buffs
One thing that really stood out to me in the remake was the complete removal of silence when finishing a mission. On the 3DS, Luigi would celebrate without music at the start, then the celebration music starts, and after it ends the scene is silent. However, in the Switch release, those quiet moments are replaced with E. Gadd's theme for some reason. It sounds really jank to me
The graphisms evolved like the players. I'm 23 and discovering again this game in 2024 Makes me feel like I'm playing it in 2013, but being 12. It's such great work.
When the first trailer was shown people were expecting Luigi's Mansion 2 HD to use the same models as Luigi's Mansion 3, but Luigi's Mansion 2 upscale the 3DS models, so it looks like an in between of 3DS version and Luigi's Mansion 3
Mostly. Some of the details have been even more significantly touched up than just an upgrade. Luigi's model actually does seem to be from LM3 but with an upscaled Poultergust.
Im amazed with rhe speed you get these videos out. Great video, I've been playing this today and its so much fun.
Nintendo gets a personal thank you from me
Tantalus media did an excellent job bringing this game to Nintendo switch.
They really didn’t, other than making it look pretty, there are several bugs and issues that weren’t in the original that they let slip past beta testing.
@@yosher Other than the E. Gadd music during the Mission Clear screen bug, I fail to find any other bug that’s in this remaster that wasn’t in the original. Please actually back up what you say.
0:28 "A more *chad chin!"*
Finally they actually recognize how much of a chad Luigi is.
I realized that the car shown here (1:02) is the same car from Luigi’s Mansion 3, just red and less worn down. The new details in the LM2 HD came from LM3 with the keyhole and hinge and you even get the Poltergust from the hood of the car in both games.
6:10 In the 3DS version there was an inscription Up on the back of the DS-System what was there Nintendo or Gidtendo?
Another difference is on the results screen when the screen gets close to Luigi and scares him in the hd remaster you can hear Mario's voice come out of Luigi, where in the original it would use Luigi's voice.
They also made a similar mistake in Luigi's Mansion 3 when Mario, Luigi, Peach and the toads got out of the elevator and were about to go to their rooms you hear Mario's voice say "Thanks" but only Luigi's mouth moved. 😂
I’m pretty sure it’s the exact same voice clip…
@@yosher Sorry, just double checked the original and you're right, it is the same. It's just random which voice clip it plays. I guess I forgot that it sounded like that.
@@Mary-O88 all good lol, we all make mistakes. This one makes sense since their voices are so similar anyway!
Huh…it’s more than just an upscaling in quality! They improved the textures, models, and everything!
It’s not to the point where it’s considered a “remake,” but like a remaster, with some qualities of a remake to improve things that normally couldn’t be seen before on the original 3DS version!
More videos of Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Comparison please
Another small detail, when you complete a mission, there’s a small part of the animation where no music is playing before the pixalator screen shows your results and afterwards in the 3Ds version, but those parts have music in the switch version
Will you be doing a follow up video with differences involving the other mansions and King Boo’s battle with Luigi aswell?
I wonder why some of the carpet designs were changed from the original? Interesting too that E Gadd's buttons changed. Never noticed that between 2 and 3.
1:02 I also noticed that you can't Skip these once you enter them. You have to wait until they are done which is annoying on repeat playthroughs.
Amazing! Now they could remaster the first one but they allready did for the 3DS so i don't think they do it. It was also one of the 3DS's final Games.

damn this game looks really good on thre switch. I really didn't remember the 3DS game to look that.. washed? can't think of a word.. none HD xD
ah I love it. gives me nostalgia when I got it and played the game with my brother. Especially the Multiplayer Tower.
Blurry visuals would be the best way to describe it, as the resolution is 240p. Though it's a lot more tolerable if playing on regular size 3ds or 2ds
The colours are also washed out on the 3ds version as well.
This video did a better job at marketing it than Nintendo
Also noticed that the toads in the paintings are different and the iron gate to the hauted towers has different texture...
🤪 "ItS jUsT aN uPsCaLe!"
2:19 This one is exaggerating by saying the rug is basically a flat regular surface. Even on 3ds, the rug isn't completely flat. For example, the down-left corner is going up slightly, indicating that you can use the Poltergust there to pull the rug.
Sure, the middle is flat, but there always was a visual hint that there's something underneath the rug with the down-left corner. It does exactly what it needs to do to let you know you can interact with it.
Great video man :)❤😊

I hope they do HD version of the 1st Luigi Mansion to complete the set.
They shouldv included that with this for 60 bucks.
I dont complain much about prices but this game is overvalued. It was 50 bucks on 3DS initially, they only needed to re-textured it in HD.
Metroid Prime had a better overhaul and was 40 bucks.
They should did LM1 first anyways.
Awesome Video.
Is it me or is the design of the Poltergust itself slightly different too?

The only thing I want to know is if there is still the hanged Luigi shadow glitch
this wasn't in this game, it was in LM1
unless there was another one I didn't know about
@@clothinghanger6978 Ho yhea sorry I forgot it was in LM1, thank you
It's from the first game, that was a result of how shadows worked in the og, while the remake just has more standard shadows that behave properly, so yeah, its gone
@@dustymcwari4468 it wasn't really caused by weird shadows, it was caused by a light source being placed under the floor and casting a shadow upward, if the light had been placed correctly that shadow wouldn't have been where it was
Currently I am still surprised by the wonders that Nintendo did with the 3DS, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon/ 2 It has aged very well, taking into account the capabilities of the 3DS the game is well made, So if you have the original version, the truth is I don't recommend purchasing the remaster, but if you want to have the complete collection, then there you go.
these are the changes they wanted to add but couldn’t because of the 3ds limits and time constraints
A bit disappointed they didn't remaster the first one and bundle it together with this.
My childhood game imported on the switch :)
Also we can see the Greenie in the shower clearly on the switch through the shower curtain.
Okay nintendo, shut up and take my money
The title screen in the remaster features a new blurry location in the background while the original it's just a simple black background.
Scarescraper differences pls
Awesome game
RIP Leaning Animation
So good it was removed
I would rather play my Luigi mansion on 3ds. It’s much easier to take on the go with the new 3ds. I didn’t see enough to pay 60 for a game that does the same thing
I wish they made the game look like Luigi's Mansion 3 tbh
That would actually justify the 60 dollar price. As it is right now, it should be 30 at most.
I’m guessing they wouldn’t wanna waste time and resources on LM2 when a new installment of the series is coming out on the new system
YEA

The switch version is better than the original
Because Luigi's model looks a bit accurate of Luigi's Mansion 3's Luigi model
Gotta say, I'm shocked that the switch remake managed to improve on the graphics of a previous gen-handheld console's version of a game, after over a decade...
@@KamikazeDreamer right..

This whole video is evidence/proof that this is not a remaster but a remake.
If it was a simple remaster, they wouldn't change a lot of things like the fingers on the knight armor and the car model.
This game was build straight from the ground up and I have a feeling the devs (Tantalus) used the OG 3DS version as a reference.
Also not every remake has EXTRA things put in it. It is as the name says it "It's a game REMADE from the ground up"
If any of you got any objections why this isn't a remake, then please tell them.
That’s what is called a “port”.
A remaster still uses the same engine as the original and most of the same assets, collision data, sounds, etc. as the original.
A remake recreates the whole game from scratch in a new engine with new internal logic.
@@dustymcwari4468 It's not even up for debate. You can transfer your 3DS game save data to this one. I don't understand where do they say this is a remake other than a need to make this something bigger than it is.

This is looking less and less like just a lazy port.
it is absolutely a lazy port

Lazy how?! Updated models, reworked textures, higher polygon count…
I thought the only difference was slightly better lighting until this video I had no idea they actually updated all the models I can see where the HD tag comes from now lol
@@overqwilgaming6614 that’s what I’m sayin’. It is an improvement but just not at the levels of LM3.
Someone said it best in another post saying:

Luigi’s Mansion 3 HD looks like a game of a Pixar movie
The 3DS is more forgiving because of the lower resolution, but man that remake is not looking grand... I don't think NLG were behind this one, or perhaps it was very rushed
Glad they ported it to switch. Can't say anything else but that, enhancing the game is also good. But i expected at least some new content, make it worth 60 whole dollars. But i guess i should've expected less. It was made by a whole different development team, of course they wouldn't add any new content.
But forking over 60 bucks for what is basically the same game isn't my cup of tea. I'm gonna stick with the original. Sure you might say "But the switch version has better graphics!" But i really don't care. The original has a charm to it (because it costed 20 dollars.) And I'm happy it was ported, but i ain't buying the same game for 60 dollars, sorry.
