      @@duhneez2068 It's from the recent First We Feast Hot Ones episode with Conan (which is hilariously unhinged by the end of it). He said that as a host he'd occasionally say something provocative to guests between commercial breaks to keep the energy up, like telling old people "you got 4 more years, tops." Except one time he said that to Bea Arthur and he was right. She died pretty close to 4 years later.

    This is probably the most genuine and relaxed Jimmy’s been on his show. He just lets Conan talk and really toned down his invasive niceness, and he genuinely engages in a conversation.

      @@mose1095 I totally agree, (I’m just gonna preface this by saying that I’m heavily influenced by alcohol) that’s what made *his* show so engaging, despite his “scripted” character (using this loosely as Conan has admitted that his TV persona is a heightened version of his actual off camera personality) is intentionally sarcastic/sardonic but also curious about his guests, and balancing entertainment and info. Sorry for being brief and shit, I’m just really drunk right now.
      If my reply seems unclear/wishy washy, just let me know, and I’ll try to expand while I’m sober.
      I genuinely love exchanging ideas and shit, so it might seem like I’m taking this too seriously… I hope I make myself clear here or whatever

    Conan’s final speech about cynicism during his last episode on the Tonight’s Show still sticks with me till this day. His tenure may have been short lived, but the impact lasts forever. I still see him as a role model on how to handle a shitty situation.

    Conan is a living icon. If you grew up in the 90s, he's bigger than Letterman, Leno, and everyone since. He was and is, KING of Late Night. Thanks for all the entertainment and memories, Conan.

      I grew up in the early 2000s and around 2010 I found Conan and have watched him for over a decade now. I think he’s one of the most entertaining, funniest people I’ve ever seen on tv. He’s awesome.

      Letterman was solid. Leno was for grannies. But Conan, man, he was just off the wall crazy and non stop funny and creative with all the bits and segments they came up, of course with their writing team too. Conan was the best.

      I actually didn't get into him until his tonight show time because my girlfriend at the time, her family watched him and I'd catch him when I'd be there late at night. This was his tonight show time because I was a senior '09-10. I then kept up with him when he went to tbs and loved him ever since.

    Conan offering the sweetest words to Jimmy feels reminiscent of Dave doing the same thing for him during his early "Late Night" days. I don't know if Jimmy needed to hear that akin to how Conan felt, but you just know Conan wanted to pay it forward. Truly the greatest of his generation.

      I am not really a fan of Jimmy, but I do think the level of hate he gets is unjustified, and from what I've seen, a decent amount of comedians haven't exactly treated him with respect, so to hear a very pure compliment like that from Conan must have felt great.

      Jimmy doesn't need it in the sense that Conan did, but he does get too much flak..
      Times have changed, it's difficult to say if Leno or Letterman were still doing it the numbers would be acceptable. Probably not. So Jimmy doing the show his way to appeal to different demographics is just a consequence of a changing market.

      They did this thing later where they had fans of the show send photos of themselves and the production people made those into life size cardboard cut outs and placed them in every seat in the theatre to look like an audience!

    Conan was the only late night show I ever truly adored. His show set the gold standard for late night talk shows in the US. Watching him tear up throughout this interview made me cry a little bit. And I am an Irish Catholic who doesn't often cry.

    Conan was my Late Night Host. As a teenager when I first saw his show I knew I’d be a fan of his for life. I just watched him on the show Hot Ones and he’s easily the best guest that’s ever been on that show. Always hilarious but remains a humble class act. 😎

    That Carol Burnett podcast episode story is so adorable and touching. In Conan's podcast, all guests must say the tagline, "Hi, my name is ......and I feel .....about being Conan O'Brien's friend".
    And then Carol said,
    "Hi, my name is Carol Burnett. And I feel so much love for Conan O'Brien."

    Conan getting teary eyed definitely made me teary eyed as well... Been watching this man since his debut in 93 when I was 13 and I haven't stopped since... It was difficult to see what he went through in 2010 with the tonight show and this has been my first time watching the tonight show since... The saddest part of watching Conan is seeing how much he's aged as I've aged watching him... I was a child when I started and now I'm a father of 3 beautiful children who also know how much their father loves this man... Keep on doing what you're doing Conan... You're a national treasure and although I've fallen short many times, I've learned so much about how to be a great human being through watching you.

      I was 8 😂. And I always felt that Conan’s Late Night show was borderline inappropriate for me, but that’s what kept me watching it. I’ve been a huge fan ever since and this interview plus his Hot Ones is getting all the young kids to notice him again - LOL.

    Ive never found someone else like Conan, his dedication to make everything in such a stupid and cartoonish yet intelligent line of wit is something I've not seen anywhere else.and the way that he self depreciation jokes it's kind of unique in our television today

      I'd recommend seth meyers and especially the segment "corrections" it's so unhinged, youtube exclusive. I watch the whole week just for context for the 12 mins (avg) of corrections each week. Running inside jokes... it's a masterpiece. The closest to filling conans ginormous shoes.

      I was bummed when he left late night tv but watching Conan on his podcast it's immediately obvious the format fits him like a freakin glove. Late night tv now would feel like a step backwards, like it would hold him back or limit his potential somehow.
      I miss the old Conan but I love the current Conan so much more.

    “Jimmy I don’t know much, but I think you’re gonna go far” 2/18/1999 - Jimmy’s first late night interview, on this very show, with Conan O’Brien as the host. I’m not a big jimmy fan, but I can’t help but to take the time to recognize what a true hilarious, and true gentleman Conan is. The way they both get emotional at the end struck me deeply. Late night is a continuously taxing and brutal job that is yet, still a luxury. Conan had an authentic way of recognizing that.

    I saw Conan when he was in NBC, my sister and I got tickets to his live taping before he started taping he came out talked to his audience and he came to us and shook his hand. That was one of my favorite moments of my life

      I took the Warner Brothers Studio tour years ago. When we drove along a particular building, the guide said that Conan has his office in it. He said that Conan regularly sticks his head out the window and messes with the visitors on the tour tram. I was there between Christmas Day and New Years Day, so he was on vacation.

    Just came across the clip on my Google feed and had to watch it because I missed it on TV. Aw that picture of Jimmy and Conan from 1999. Memories. Sniff. Not only for them but for me. There is something comforting about going back in time. The 90s late night programming was great. I'm proud to say I still have some taped episodes of Conan from the 90s and I watch it when I need a nostalgic taste. Conan's still got it. Looks and talent. Thank God for famous people like Jimmy and Conan who don't think they're too great to have a pic with fans.

    Conan's final minute kinda reminds me of his last minutes on the Tonight Show. I remember watching the premiere of Conan's Tonight Show (I don't exactly remember why) and I remember watching those final episodes of his tenure (his speech about cynicism and continuing to work hard and being kind stays w/ me to this day).
    I kept up w/ the Legally Prohibited Tour and watched the TH-cam videos then and watched the premiere of Conan on TBS. I just love seeing the humanity in Conan.
